Then later on I will move it somewhere else if I care or delete the file if I do not need it anymore. Using desktop as a glorified painting is the stupidest thing you can do.

Why used this when you're not ever going to look at your desktop. The only practical use for this would be if you have multiple monitors, so the one not being used can have the wallpaper engine running. Otherwise it's a freaking waste of time.

Things are filed in columns. Games in the same series go into a column. Then games that are related, be it a similar gameplay style by the same company or a similar genre, to finish the column if there is room remaining.
Then the next column starts over again fresh.

Mine's pretty messy atm, I originally had more icons but then I just gave up and kept the icons for the some of the vidya I liked or the ones of my favourite games or experimental mods, most of the folders I have are really fucking cluttered and I need to fix them up.

True, but I am too busy cluttering it up even more by installing new mod installers and testing out different configurations, and I usually just drag and drop them to my desktop so I don't forget where I put them (i.e. the Last Resort mod launcher for SWAT 3). Someday I'll organise the shit out of my Desktop. I do like to keep some icons on my laptop screen because they look aesthetically pleasing. Maybe it's just me. I prefer having a little clutter over pure emptiness, although the one on my pic is more clutter than I actually need, so I will probably clean it up.

unplayed games
i have some games in the normal games category because i don't know how to categorize them
the rest are hidden
as for the rest of my games i have a games folder and an emulator games folder
the games folder has stuff i downloaded from the internet
the emulator games folder includes emulators and game folders for said emulators
i also have uplay games but who cares about that

But I install a lot of standalone mods, fan games, abandonware, etc. Half of the games on my desktop that you see there are literally abandonware and standalone mods dude (San Andreas is one of them because I am using the downgraded version which is a standalone app so I need to launch it through my desktop so I don't confuse it with the steam version). Look at the games before thinking I just made fifty shortcuts of Steam games only. Out of all those games I only have like five shortcuts that are from actual Steam games. And even then that's just because those are personal favourites of mine.
