Too bad ryukishi lost his mind when his friend died and tanked the series with stupid shit like that and all his preaching in chapter 4/7/8. Battler solving the whole mystery in one scene and busting out golden truth in chapter 5 to immediately going back to being a gigantic dumbass in chapter 6 that gets stuck in a box is a slap in the face so severe people make up "he was just pretending lol" headcanon to try and rationalize it

Putting that aside, what reason does battler have to NOT deny beatrice when she does literally everything possibly to make him hate her during chapters 1-3 (before angsting that battler doesn't seem to get the Secret Deep Meaning of what she's trying to show him in chapter 4)

his only character flaws are being a bit of a pervert/airhead due to being like 18 and "Incompetence" which is just code for "I'm the main character in a mystery so I can't actually come to conclusions until after the audience does and needs everything explained to him for their benefit
meanwhile every other character besides beatrice is either a psychopath (all the adults besides maybe krauss), an obvious mentally damaged retard (krauss and the cousins), less of a character and more of a plot device/source of memes (every magic being) or just fucking boring (ange, every aspect of sayo)
battler and beato carry the shit out of umineko and they're also the only people who have actually good voice acting, that's why the chapters that are mainly just them yelling at eachother are the best parts by far and whenever the series isn't about them specifically it's way worse
