Doom 3 appreciation thread
Remember that time when the lights flickered and a demon showed up
More of a Doom game than 2016
No way, what are you on about
At least people are honest and acknowledge its flaws unlike nuDoom where they pretend it's good because of Bethesda markerers.
In Doom 3 you actually feel DOOM.
>D44M comes out
>Doom 3 apologists come out of the fucking woodwork
What? I think that you meant to say IT HAD SOUL or something stupid lke that?
You've convinced me
dark room big monster surprise me like
underrated gem. too bad the BFG edition shit all over the atmopshere by putting a flashlight on everything
Oh look a contrarian faggot who seems to have forgotten that back when it was released EVERYBODY complained about that.
This game was genuinely scary and that was good
Making progress, Marine?
Ah yes, because 'everybody' is known to have taste.
The real underrated one is Quake 4
just stfu zoomer
deep
doom 3 is a good game. it's time to get over it user.
not everybody likes the same shit
I played doom 1 and 2 on release and loved both, and I enjoyed doom 3 especially because you had to switch between weapon and flashlight, its not a doom game, but its fine regaardless
grow up
dont you talk shit about everybody, hes a cool dude
It was decent System Shock knock-off.
Boring game
shame that everything before you get STROGGED is slow and lame
My favorite part was importing my own flashlight textures
>got BFG edition on steam
aaaww fugg that was the shitty one wasnt it
Nah, kid.
I just play in VR where I have to hold the flash light with the other hand.
It's technically more stable, and easy to pick-up-and-play, but yeah, it's also kinda fucked. There are a couple mods and improvement things for it, like RBDoom3, Hi Def and UltimateHD, but you have a consolized version of D3 that made the game brighter and easier.
As someone that has both versions, though, I only download the original for mods at this point. I'm especially prepping BFG Edition for VR with the Fully Possessed mod.
My favourite part was cheating all weapons and shooting everyone in the first sequence before the game really starts.
whats the difference between doom 3 and quake 4
they're both ugly pieces of shit that aged terribly and had very bland gameplay
the only thing bad about it is the extra ammo
The real question is what's the difference between Doom 3 and 4
I just used a console command to increase the speed. Turns out that the same variable is changed when you become stroggified.
This kinds of opinions makes me happy that I wasnt born with some type of mental retardation or something
>boy, everyone is stupid but me
tfw have doom 3 BFG on my steam, never played either doom 3 version.
What's the difference other than being able to use the torch when you want?
Mobile games good
I think that the new one ran in uncapped fps while the original was locked to 64 but the original had slightly better graphics with config edits.
Compressed textures so it looks worse than Doom 3 on Ultra, initially didn't have flashlight shadows but that's a menu option, script triggers are borked so enemies may not wake up when intended or never spawn at all, more supplies even on Nightmare which means you should pretty much always be well-stocked if you look around a little, controller-focused PDA menu that's a pain in the ass to navigate, and the Doom 1&2 ports aren't very good copy-pastes of the XBLA versions complete with pills on medkits instead of red crosses and with the addition of censored Wolfenstein levels.
You can get high-def mods and the RBDoom3 stuff to try to fix some of the issues, and at that point it's down to whether you hate the flashlight and extra supplies. It also has unfinished VR support for splitting the screen between two eyes, but a fan mod (Fully Possessed) tried to make up for it.
it's still a great game but it makes a lot of changes to casualize doom 3. you find a lot more ammo which removes much of the challenge. the game is also brightened + a permanent flashlight is added because people like ITT bitching that the game was too dark, which was the point. It removes a lot of tension and turns it into a run-n-gun which, while enjoyable, misses the point. you're suppose to have to choose between light and firepower, that's what made the atmosphere so great.
The worst part of it (to young me) was bodies disappearing quickly.
I loved seeing the panorama of corpses after clearing an area in Doom 1 & 2, so seeing my first enemy Imp just fizzle away mere seconds after I popped him pissed me off.
I played Rage for all of an hour before dropping it because I hated how the first person shooting actually felt. Is it going to be the same if I give doom 3 a try?
Based game. The most polished one of 2004. The most tense. The most immersive of all shooters. Dare I say, a masterpiece.
Came out the same year as Far Cry
Far Cry was way cooler
