old games like splinter cell, animations were hand crafted and thus could be stretched by rule of cool to look better than usual, this was expensive and time consuming but resulted in a tweaked high quality animation
now they just throw people in cheap mocap and face capture hardware / software, make them do some obvious acting and call it a day
the rare examples of actual talent being used to improve a game could still have been made better and more fucking interesting if they have shaped it manually in a program
another good example is halo 2 and 3, the making of that game shows what proper development is, pouring over a program and tweaking weights for every tiny object that explodes off a warthog, buying junk kitchen utensils and smashing them with tools and hardware to produce authentic sounds etc etc
video games are just mass produced dogshit like everything else these days, cheap disposable shit for cheap disposable lives
