>f2p mmo
It will have terrible a monetization model.
but.. isn't there already a f2p LOTR MMO? LOTRO is still a thing
Amazon want's you to forget it exists.
collaborate with who and who?
>en.wikipedia.org
>Chicken supplier that now owns Digital Extremes, who make Warframe and dick fuckall else
So... are they making the thing then?
Fucking LOTRO already exists, and it was pretty damn good from what I remember. Lore consistent and had some handy features and classes
This has been known for about a year user . Wake me up when theres actual news about this shit
>Leyou
sounds chink, stop caring
10 mother fucking bars, 10 mother fuckin seconds
LOTRO exists and is actually pretty damn fun. Who's going to give a shit about this?
their HQ is in hong kong
Consolefags like me
ESO, tera and black desert are shit and I don't wanna pay a sub for FF14.
some chick chicken supplier company and the company who controls the right to tolken's stuff
Sort of... it just gets nearly impossible to get decent XP past level 30-40 unless you catch on that festivals will usually give you at least half a level scaled XP every day for doing Stupid Hobbit Tricks and booze running. You can do most of the "epic" quest line (required to unlock quite a few areas) on f2p. And the shekel-rubbing is intense.
The lore/quest/immersion part is great, combat ain't so great (unless you actually like dozens of confusing stats, steep power creep, and endlessly running the same daily crap), monetization is horrible.
Oh, you want to hold more than 2 gold (200,000 copper)? Pay us some LP! You want more inventory and storage? (gotta have room for all that random vendor trash!) Pay us some LP! You want to take all those dozens of regional currency out of your inventory? Deluxe wallet is only 1000 LP! Oh look you have to go somewhere for this quest, pay us some mithril (only 10LP each)! Yes, there is a little icon on every completed quest to pay for a teleport to turn it in.
>for console
dead on arrival
>free to play
oh boy can't wait for the cash shop full of cool cosmetic I won't be able to get without spending money.
Cautiously optimistic
>Amazon
>F2P
>Lord of the Cockrings
>MMO
No thanks
lotro already exists and for as little care it has for modern design choices, it has an assfuckload of content. Like, if you sat down and played through it all you'd be playing for MONTHS.
>it just gets nearly impossible to get decent XP past level 30-40
Just grind up enough points to buy Evendim, Angmar, and Forochel and you're set for life.
>impossible to get decent XP past level 30-40
There's an entire zone for 30-40, then 2-3 zones for 40-50
>epic quest required to enter places
Once to enter the other half of Angmar, and then standard story intros to the expansion areas like Moria and Mirkwood.
There are no prerequisites to get those quests, you can skip entire books of the story and still enter Moria for example.
>You'll be able to make a black character
>he doesn't know about the Dunlanders
Oof.
the Dunlendings were Wild Men.
That's actually one of the reasons I'm staying strictly F2P, because I'm mostly an exploration guy, and this keeps me focused on just the "epic quest" stuff. I'm quite aware that there is so much stuff that I'm avoiding by not buying regions. I don't have the time for all that, I'm trying to make level 120 on just festivals. (just hit 91 and I've been playing since February)
I'm also trying to be strictly one character, but when I get tired of that, I think I'm going to create an alt and do low all the level "deeds" content for LP, delete the character, repeat, and eventually buy what expansions I can.
I don't really like grinding. What I like is trying to push boundaries, I'm so happy that the new Vales region is a direct connection to the northeast stuff. Through various ways I have all the other stable-masters unlocked (except for Hytbold of course), with the help of loopholes including a kinship house with an item which is a door that literally lets you walk into Mordor.
The current festival ends tomorrow, and I'm looking forward to playing something else for a while until the next one begins and I can continue cheesing my way to 120.

LOTRO is old enough you could probably play it just fine on a shitty laptop.
Fpbp
Come on, that's old news and you got me excited for nothing. I thought that they actually announced a release date or showed footage or sth.
>F2P
>Consoles
DOA
>I'm also trying to be strictly one character
That's not very good in an MMO that encourages altoholic behavior. You should have at least enough characters to cover 6 of the 7 vocations (Armourer, Armsman, Explorer, Historian, Tinker, and Woodsman. Yeoman is irrelevant).
>pre-announce with no title
It’s vaporware
Fuck you, switching classes worked great in FFXI. With as much content as LOTRO has, there is no way I'd be stupid enough to try to do it all over again on an alt, especially with all that happy merchantry. But alts to do the _crafting_ all over again? Holy crap LOTRO crafting is horrible, it's tiered out the ass, and after the sixth or seventh tier they were just phoning it in. The only one worth it for me was Tinker because I had to go all over to places I was way under-leveled to get ores. I was actually shocked that Mordor let me mine away at only level 85, and I still don't know how to get in there the "right" way yet.
FFXIV and ESO are successful and they show that MMORPGs do work on consoles.
>F2P
Ye it's gonna be trash
I mean, Warframe is really fucking good and has been getting great free updates. I'm not sure if the same will apply to Lord of the Rings though.
How is LOTRO doing? I always really liked the scale of the world and how instead of trying to make it prettier they just left it looking like dogshit focused on doing the world to a decent scale. I haven't played it since 2010ish, I was kind of waiting for them to finish off the world and then make a new char and explore the whole thing as one huge hurrah before they undoubtedly close the game.
I was just looking at a video of the new update youtube.com
wus poppin
>explore
If you don't mind paying for expansions to give you enough things to do to keep your levels going (as I've been saying so far, f2p is harsh without XP from doing festival content, most other content doesn't scale XP and the curve is steep), there's a lot to explore. Isn't it the biggest RPG land area second only to the procedurally generated Daggerfall?
finally! LOTRO is garbage and run by omega jews
>implying chinks aren't
It has really shit mechanics
>pass some statue in the open world
>instant death because i had not done some quest hidden away
>exploring deep mines
>swim through green water as exploring
>no problem
>same green water later instant kills you no warning
Is this a reskin of New World or whatever their boring game was called?
Did the Tolkien Estate consent to this
Before anyone gets too excited it's probably worth noting Athlon Games don't seem to have actually made any games before, and this is an F2P product which was previously described in terms that seem rather mobile game-y.
>gematsu.com
Console also means It will be heavily instanced. Shame.
>Leyou
>based out of Hong Kong
That's pretty close to being full blown Chinese, user.
Warframe is developed by Digital extremes. Leyou holds majority share in the company .
>F2P
At dawn, look to the east and be sure to have at least 500 PowerTokens (limited time promotion: 600 tokens for $1.99) or you won't get any exp.
My favorite is if you're trying to go as far as you can, and you go a liiiitle too far, you just suddenly die from "misadventure". There was one time when I managed to go just perfectly the wrong way and was on the wrong side of an inviso-wall that went on for miles until I hit a new region with a river that gave you 2000 damage every few seconds. One does not simply walk out-of-bounds in LOTRO.
The statues are a role playing thing though, remember those letters RP? And Angmar is kino as fuck with ambience that gives the feeling the whole land hates you.
The game itself is still pretty good. The world is huge and comfy. The new zones the past 5 years have mostly been nice. The combat has gotten easier when questing, but dungeons and raids are still challenging.
The player base is a mix of obnoxious east Europeans who are too poor to pay for games, and middle aged women who lust for Legolas.
I came back to the game in March of this year after a 5 year break, and I've been enjoying it so far.
This could be a really big deal, Lord of the Rings is the largest and most well known Fantasy IP in the world... I hope they can do something truly good with this setting, it's not often the rights too this IP get picked up. F2P isn't ideal, but we will see how far they go with it the western market is a bit different than China / eastern pay 2 win.
>being this fucking retarded
Some of the best memories I had as a kid was playing LOTRO with my dad. He forced me to play as a dwarf warrior so I wouldn't get killed so easily. I loved the atmosphere of the game so much and the bard guitar attack sound is fried into my brain. I remember reaching Rivendell as a low level trying to sneak through high level mobs and reaching Rivendell for the first time is something I will never forget. Granted I haven't played the game in years and I stopped playing years before they went free to play.
I hope this MMO will keep the railroadness down to a minimum and it can be more like a fantasy version of star wars galaxies. I doubt that will ever happen but a man can dream
it's gonna be shiiiiiit
look at what they did with star trek games
if it was a good dev i might be interested
>I remember reaching Rivendell as a low level trying to sneak through high level mobs and reaching Rivendell for the first time is something I will never forget.
Do that now and they'll just whine that you could have simply abused a Bree quest with Gandalf. Fuck them, a low level Rivendell run (with no mount of course) is hard, I did it at 15. It's fun being a little hobbit burglar (dorf is okay too I guess) with all this big stuff trying to kill you. Fucking deer, man.
If you're below a certain level in a region, everything will aggro you from almost the limit of your radar view, and mining will take like 10x longer to give them plenty of time to see you. And when you die you don't even get to use the nearby rez circles, it puts you back at your first milestone.
>amazon
>lotr mmo
>free to play
>console and pc
>no name studio
lmao no thanks
Amazon most likely wants to make this mmo coincide with their lotr series to serve as free promotion
>you didnt know about our series until you played our game
They really think their lotr show will rival GoT and become very sucessfull but if they go the witcher show route(PC casting, writers are far left) its gonna be shit way before the first episode airs
>collab with chinks
>chinks knowing anything about Lotr
I sense something like we ship you the assets and you implement the microtransactions haha type of deal
i hate dumb faggots who beg to make the game easier. The experience was memorable because of how hard that shit was. There was no quest nor in game purpose to actually go to rivendell as a low level, I just wanted to fill out my map and I thought 'hey thats where the fellowship formed! That place is probably super important!' There was times where you had to stop and try to sneak around mobs and there was times where you just had to pray and run for your fucking life. Another thing that I remember that was a bit hard was getting money. I remember calling my dad saying how I got my first ever gold piece thinking I was such hot shit because it took such a long fucking time to do it. It's those special moments that mean a lot to you as a player because you felt as if you earned it. Now all that shit is probably meaningless because of how easy it is to get it.
Gets me sad knowing that all future MMO's will probably be shitty pay to win railroading cake walks
So how many shitskin extras will it have, remember how The Hobbit was made into a full trilogy?
>Another thing that I remember that was a bit hard was getting money.
And then I saw how much they were selling easily acquired ores for on the auction house. Holy crap the economy is so broken now, there's basically no gold sinks in the game, players just accumulate dragon-tier piles of gold and buy things from each other at absurd prices. Gotta max out the crafting NOW on that 5th alt ya know. But f2p LOTRO is one of the few things I've found that an old FFXI veteran can appreciate. Everything else has been theme-parked to hell thanks to WoW.

Pretty sure Amazon doesn't actually have the license for the Lord of the Rings movie franchise, so the game is only allowed to be based on the books, design-wise. It's always interesting how they get around this, but other LOTR games that were not based on the movies were mostly really shitty because they had to do everything to avoid "you made Aragorn look too much like Viggo Mortensen" lawsuits.
Since they are just using the short stories and confirmed its in the second age they just gotta show the fall of numenor and the creation of the rings to satisfy fans. The rest they can invent however they want plus the map they showed had more details in Harad and east of Mordor so it isnt a far possibility they show haradrim or corsairs. But will it be Peter jackson's interpretation or something worse
Also i need the sauce on the image
>amazon
>free
hhhhehehehehe
There's one particularly shitty thing about LOTRO I forgot to mention. War horses. Holy fuck who thought this was a good idea, it's like trying to joust with NASCAR while driving on ice. To make it all worse, you have to steer (WASD) while trying to fight something (digit keys), and you go fast enough that you're likely to stumble into another fucking death-AI rider's aggro range.
The best strategy I found was to find a nearby lake and simply trick the riders into the water to unhorse them. Then you can fight them while standing in one place.
Don't forget to user your Twitch Prime for that VIP status and reap all those rewards such as 50% extra exp,Magic Find, and keys for the VIP chests :)
Yeah niggers
