This makes me think, what's acceleration in this game? Not in general, I mean what changes in CTR mechanics as the accel value goes up?

Everyone is spouting muh faster recovery, but getting to max speed with any class is almost instantaneous (excluding SF max speeds).
Do powerslides and turbo pads give you a higher boost? Higher boost as in faster? But then the speed stat becomes useless as everyone is constantly boosting in this game. Higher boost as in longer? I haven't noticed longer reserves on accel characters to be honest.

Universal Jewing over all their studios like usual. Nitro Kart was going to have all of CTR’s content plus just as much of it’s own stuff, with online play back on PS2. Of course as Universal did back then they set release dates then pared them back on a whim because shareholders wanted profits immediately. VV had to slap together the assets they had into something to release which is why we got the game we got. Some of the tracks are very similar to CTR tracks because they repurposed the remade CTR assets they had with the original assets of their new tracks to be raced on with unfinished physics and mechanics, and they could only make 13. They were at least a very solid set of 13, and Nitro Fueled actually gave them their own unique aesthetics so half of the tracks no longer look like they use the same textures as CTR tracks.

I think the super turbo item from battle mode NEEDS to be in online for 6th through 8th place. It doesn't sound like a bad idea to me. Maybe people would purposely hang back to get it on tracks like Crash Cove and then USF to victory but I think it's worth testing.

Tiny Temple and Electron Avenue are the USF tutorial. If you can keep the blue fire then you know you're boosting correctly.

Honestly with orbs and cocks the way they are now I don't see that being a too damming issue

Hell no. If you're going for a full-track or even full-lap USF there you need pretty much perfect mastery of mid-air turning and air braking. Definitely not for beginners. The two tutorial levels would be Tiny Temple and Twilight Tour as neither of them require any advanced techniques, just normal drifting and boosting.

No, absolutely broken. Every single non-USF track would centralize over people farming for it and whoever gets it first would win. USF is already centralizing and game-breaking as it is, we don't need any more of it.

There's only two air brakes and they're probably the easiest ones in the game. The USF pads are also incredibly frequent so if you mess up you can go straight back into it, fitting for a tutorial.
But yeah Twilight Tour is even easier to maintain, and that's a good thing

Idk, electron ave is good even still up to those points. Also keep in mind that the USF is at the start of EA and it has some tight enough turns that dont require advanced techs but helps in teaching proper turning angles with USF.
But yeah, if you are looking for "maintain USF for a full lap" then sure. Honestly though, being able to keep USF for an extended time with semi-tricky turns rather than just holding it for long straightaways is much more valuable to learn first imo. Gives the building blocks to then do advanced techs like air braking and u-turns. Hopping is usually all you need in moat tracks anyways unless you go speed only.

Universal were just kikes pretty much. After Naughty Dog decided they wanted out of their partnership and ditched them once their contract was up, Universal figured Crash was easy money since ND had given them 4 critically acclaimed and high selling titles, and that going into the next console generation they didn’t need to invest much in it because it would make money regardless. After Activision got their hands on it they did the same thing, but they at least realised some time later why the shit games they put out didn’t sell and how to fix it.

Spyro got it even worse than Crash at first, if you don’t know about it then look into Enter the Dragonfly. Universal put together a new studio for the first PS2 Spyro game and gave them 18 months to make it. They planned out a game on the same scale as Spyro 3 which was reasonable for the time frame and started work, but 6 months in Universal decided instead of releasing in time for Christmas 2003 they wanted it out for Christmas 2002. So they lost two thirds of dev time with no notice and had to finish the game quick. The final product is one of the biggest fucking piece of shit AAA games ever produced, on par with Devil May Cry 2. That game was at least functional despite its awfulness, EtD barely worked. The PS1 Spyro games had 35, 29 and 36 levels respectively while EtD had 9, which while maybe about 20% bigger than the levels in the PS1 games were still grossly unfinished. The game sucked dick and no one bought it, so Universal closed the studio they made specifically for that game.

It tells you all you need to know about them that they treated multiple popular properties this way. The fact that Crash and Spyro are still around is a miracle.

Be glad that decals, paints and skins are specifically curated otherwise youd be seeing Crash Team Fortress. There are still people who throw random shit together but the paint swatches being presets is a godsend even if people will still mix-match characters, stickers. and wheels.

First of all, this would kill all afk cheesing mechanics that people are using at the moment to climb the leaderboard. Second, it would fix online since people would go back to using the characters that they actually want to use. It would hardly affect the amount of nitro that normal players gain since you get 95% of your nitro anyway from the challenges and they alone are enough to reach the end of gold tier in time. Source: I'm almost at the Tawna sticker already and we're not even halfway through the grand prix. I guess the nitro gained from the challenges could be buffed just in case.

Masks should be awarded to 8th place at an almost 100% rate on lap 2, and they should NEVER be awarded to 1st.

2nd and 3rd should be getting ZERO missiles or bombs to constantly slow each other down while 1st pulls ahead, and 3rd should be allowed the warp orb ONLY if juiced up, so they can slow down both 2nd and 1st place, instead of just cheesing 1st.

2nd, 3rd, and 4th should ALL be getting shields more often.

For real though, it's a trade-off. You cannot get a shied (i.e. no protection in case of missiles / clocks), you cannot get mask, you cannot leave nitros or beakers behind you to potentially screw over other players. It's just pure driving at that point.

Accel is absurd. Barely slower than Speed, has great Turn, and can take hits like a champ. There's low risk and a lot of reward for using Accel over Speed. Speed is high risk for just a little more reward. Accel is the online champ but Speed is the king of offline.

Accel is good, but look at those global high scores. They are literally all with speed characters. One chief reason being they have perfect handling midair. That could definitely see a nerf down the line and I wouldn't mind.

If you look at the nitro leaderboard on PS4 you'll see that there are 811068 people playing this game. 0.5% of that is around 4055 players and this thread has 59 different posters so far. It's really not that hard to believe that some of the good players would hang out here, especially if you also take into account the Switch playerbase and both of the Xbox players.

That being said I still think it's dumb that we have these elitists here who call you out for not being on the top of time trial leaderboards. If your name is actually visible there then you're a WR-tier time trial player and one of the absolute best CTRNF players in the world, especially since the leaderboards are filled with the same few names over and over (ctr4ever-Justin, FGTurismo21, RC_Slent etc). I consider myself to be fairly competent in the game (platinum trophy, 600-something on the championship leaderbord) but I'm no WR-tier by any means. If the git gudders in these threads actually are world class speedrunners and time trialists then so be it but I doubt that's the case with 99% of the people here.

Actually, let me elaborate. This is for a speed character. You enter the portal sliding leftwards with USF. This should give you the good angle to drive straight into the lefthand. Next you want to hug the middle obstacle: you start turning right early so as to cut the shit.

At the cross you evaluate whether you should do an empty powerslide ahead of the right turn, or u-turn as late as possible. Former will land you dangerously close to the left wall of the USF ramp, Latter will take a dump on your speed, possibly sending you into backup strats.

Still can't land it on all three laps, except with a balanced char, but that's slow as shit.

If you're doing dailies then yeah the skin makes a sizeable difference with everything else alongside it (for 50%), but when you're done with your dailies the 15% increase is literally 1 or 2 nitro point extra per match. So if you're just doing daliies or farming fair enough, but even going full 50% extra yields only around 8 extra nitro per match afterwards. I suppose that does stack up over time though.

How do I git gud? I played CTR casually all my life, never did those fucking shortcuts that people are doing now in online mode, and the only thing I could do good is getting 3 perfect boosts and that's it.

learn the short cuts and learn to use those perfect drift boosts to extend the boost you get from pads.

The day, I got people who were USFing the entire track, I'm nowhere near that good but I have just learnt to slightly maintain a USF and since then most of my lobbies were like this.

Focus on doing 3 sequential perfect boosts and doing them over and over to maintain speed.
This is the critical first step in your learning, turn on the nitro fueled boost meter if you want better feedback on your boost quality.
Once you can keep up speed, you can learn the air control tech to navigate tight turns before you learn how to airbrake turn. U turn, pivot turn etc. You're on the right track.

Get your reserves as full as possible to make sure you won't run away of USF, and simultaneously "stop pressing accelerate" and "keep back + brake pressed", it will allow you to control your trajectory way smoother as long as you have reserves.

If you press accelerate and brake at any given moment you will stop so you have to get the timing nailed, there were webms yesterday on one of the threads about this mechanic, I discovered it here.

I think it's faster to airbrake your way through the 8 and it also depletes reserves slower, but I just can't pull it off right now, it's the one technique I'm short of.

He's the boss of the next area, you should be able to get to him pretty quickly. Depending on your skill at Dragon Mines, the actual fight with him could take the most time.

Less handling is best on certain tracks and straightaways but sometimes it's actually nice to build reserves on turns. Acceleration has almost as much speed while also allowing for more general versatility.

The hitboxes are way too large. If they reduced them just a small amount it'd make the biggest difference. My best time on that track was complete luck. Hopped a mile through that pipe without hitting anything somehow. I could never recreate it.
