I never really got it either. I'm usually about 5 years behind everyone because I don't have a lot of spare time and I like to play a bit of everything. Sometimes I'll make an exception and play a game at release if it looks like I'll really enjoy it but mostly I'll just wait till it gets cheap in a few years. For example I only just started playing mgsv and gta v. The only downside is it's hard to discuss a game when everyone is mostly over it but the upside is they're cheap and bugtested + a shitload of mods

If Epic and MS can learn and understand what valve does right, they could boot them off the platform. But if they try to hamfist their way in to market dominance, they'll see us go back to piracy and a variety of other shit. Who knows? Maybe seeing Steam fall will bring back server browsers and custom servers as the standard and not the exception.

And when you have 100+ people all working on the game, sometimes it's hard to know for sure if any of them got referenced. A dev that's been working at Bethesda for 20 years that's familiar with those ancient references could still be using them. Removing the data for Burning Hand could very well break a dragon shout from 15 years later. It's safer, as you said, to just let it be. It doesn't use that much room or cause any real performance degradation other than an unnoticeable microscopic delay in loading time.

RDR2 does a bunh of things differently that address many of the common pitfalls in open world design like spacing out the repeatable suck mah poison events and giving them a decent enough reward presented in an unconventional way of having to come back after some time on your own volition, stuff like that that makes it really special.

yep. put it down after about an hour on ps4. it's actually more fun to watch, if only for GTA-like shenanigans that happen to players on horses but even that gets stale quick. one of the most boring games I have ever played and probably rockstar's worst game. and yes RDR1 was better because it felt like a fun romp in a cool setting and not a painful slog where the open world and railroaded story/missions are in complete opposition.

RDR2 is literally go around on your horse and do samey follow glowing trails and shoot at glowing outlines gameplay across the whole map so you can um..... get a hat or gun that doesn't matter or upgrade your shit camp for no reason.

Don't even care. One playthrough was enough. I tried to do a second but couldn't do it. It's a visually stunning game no doubt though. It's hard to sit through all those forced ride/walking sections again. Hell even on the first playthrough it was a bit much and I thought the game was beginning to outstay its welcome by the final chapter which ended up being a lot longer than I wished it was.
