I played Dark Cloud 1 15 years after 2 (although I had played the shit out of the 1's demo back then) and I don't regret it.
The first game just feels like an experimental attempt at this kind of game as the second one is better in every way : the story is more interesting and the characters more fleshed out, the environments more detailed and memorable (as well as the ost), the synthesis and georama systems are more comprehensive and the mini-games like fishing and the spheda are really fun and the combat is way less frustrating thanks to better animations and more forgiving hitboxes.
Words alone can't describe how much I love this game !
