It's a series with a lot of writing, none of it is actually good, but there's so much of it that a combination of sunken cost(time) fallacy and stockholm syndrom keeps you locked in to find out if anything ever happens, it doesn't. At the end of CS4 the entire series plot is essentially set back to square one.

It was inevitable since Juna's introduction and her not liking Rean at the start.

CS1 was my first introduction to this series and I liked the world building. Some of the stuff was really jarring though, expecially Rean's speech about how he won't let some glowy magic house ruin the school festival

Yeah the constant regurgitating of "muh school life" is one of the few things that does actually really bother me with cold steel. Even more so in 2 when there's a literal civil war going on.

I played ys 8 and really liked it, but going through a second playthrough on the hardest difficulty almost killed any enjoyment I had of the game since it has some of the worst level scaling I've ever seen as well as enemies that have way too much health so it takes way too long to kill anything making it way more tedious then it needed to be.

There's this chink mod for the PC version which lets you use the costumes that are on psvita/switch and it unlocks a shitton of DLC. Not sure if it unlocks the Sliver Armor as well since I already have it due to pre-ordering.

I mean, the Jap version of Rean in general is bland. A lot of weebs who were whining about wanting Japanese voices defend it, but Rean's Jap voice is nothing special and lacks emotion and since he is some hot shot there are tons of gaps in what is voiced. At least XSEED went back and added extra voiced lines for PC and later PS4 plus in some ways their PC port which Durante did a lot of work on for CS1 and 2 in some ways is better than the PS4 port Falcom did.

It just isn't. The only good thing is a bit better about positioning but that was already also in Crossbell more and more. They fucked up arts and made it much easier to break the game. There are literal enemies in the last 25-40% of SC and a few scattered about in FC where you literally need arts to beat them or it is hard mode. The game forces you to use them unless you brute force it. In 3rd arts are a must for every character in the huge roster. In Crossbell they evened it out so you needed to use arts for many bosses throughout. And in all of the first 5 games there were some bosses that could not be touched with physical attacks and need arts and usually more powerful ones. In Cold Steel some of this exists but to a lesser degree. Also, many of the bosses in the old games like the final bosses have element weaknesses you need to take advantage of or you will need to nearly cheat to win. Cold Steel is a joke.

It's pretty much impossible to not be the intended level in these games. Knowing good quartz setups is what makes or breaks your battle power.

Even using a guide for the carry over perfect score items, it's painfully boring. Using Turbo mode and the fast forward button (O on PS4) still makes the game seem slow.

There just has been little progress, I talk to one of the guys on the team from time to time in private on discord and they haven't made much progress, because since the last report they have been going back and doing shit. Zerker who is the lead on the project doesn't even know how many passes they will do before they are satisfied and there are still efforts to remove the need for Japanese locale and other technical shit that needs fixing. Progress has just been slow all around since the last report, yet many people seem to believe it will be out by the time Cold Steel 2 comes out in 2 months, which I call bullshit.

i don't hate sen as much as most kiseki fans on here do, but i think i hate rean more than i've ever hated a video game character. i'm playing this arc in spite of his annoying ass.

I like doing them because they actually give you shit like rare master quarts for getting them instead of just doing them for their own sake. The master quartz are honestly the best part of the cold steel games, makes for some fun character building since you've got a lot more variation in specing them.

The variation is a lot better in Crossbell in that regard, Cold Steel has shit character battle customization

Bullshit, I managed to make Fie have 100% evasion, always critical hit on counter attacks and do 2.5x damage on critical hits so she was an immortal dps machine without ever even needing to attack. Shit was game breaking and I loved it.

Making characters nearly break the game by taking advantage of an unbalanced system isn't good customization. Being able to turn any character into a well rounded tank, healer, etc. by properly thinking and managing orbments is actual effective and efficient customization.

It's just as balanced as bosses being able to one shot your entire party with an S craft, CS is ballanced, just not as plain as crossbell.

Cold Steel 1 and 2 are far from balanced, so much so they had to increase enemy evade rates in 2 and in some cases it got ridiculous. Liberl and Crossbell arcs were not subject to this watered down system where you can easily break the game early on. Breaking the game with such ease even with more basic orbments is not good design or intellectual design philosophy and is not good balance at all.

Like I said, as much as you can brake the game, the bosses are just as broken, I'd much prefer that over the boring old, barely different customization that you see in a thousand other jrpg. I like being able to change things drastically if I know what I'm doing, that's rewarding the players ingenuity, also you can't even do that shit until the end of the game since it requires the best orbments that you can't get early on so your full of shit and clearly haven't even played the game.

No romance options, Crow is Rean's canon husbando. And it would make Crow's betrayal have more impact. Fem Rean would be unsure of herself and thus Gaius and Laura would be the leaders of Class 7 while Fem Rean slowly grew into that role. He went into depth for like 5 paragraphs about how it could improve the story for Sen 1, 2 and 3 and how the characters would do their own thing instead of revolve around Rean.
