Arland is fantastic. Release order is Rorona-Totori-Meruru, they have plus versions with all the DLC and a little extra. Totori+ and Meruru+ are optional; Rorona+ is highly recommended for engine and control changes.
The recommended order, is usually release order, but many argue Totori first and then Meruru and Rorona in any order, because Rorona+ has massive spoilers for the later games, and also because this is the order most of Yea Forums was introduced to the series after Totori (aka /u/nderage y/u/ribait) became a meme.

Ayesha is also great. It gets worse after that and keeps going. Pirate any game after ayesha and give it a try; if you dont like it drop the series and don't look back.

Many will tell you to start with MK but I say to just go Arland, considering the trilogy is on steam now.
The problem with Arland is that Rorona was remade using a lot of QOL systems found in Meruru, which will make go to Totori feel somehow like a downgrade coming from Rorona Plus, which is a shame since I think Totori has the better story and world.

MK emulates smooth, it doesnt use much 3D graphics, so its really easy to run even on computers that arent so great.

That said I'd probably say it's best to start with Arland, and if you beat Ayesha and want more then go back to MK, because the switch back to 2D is so much easier than trying to go backwards in the 3D games.

Writers need to pay their table fees and wages in the modern day con scene, comiket is packed as fuck and spots keep getting more and more expensive, nowadays even industry staples skip out because it just isn't worth it - and they are lucky enough to be big names that can still sell their works through other means. Going on a new series just isn't financially viable anymore, writers can't risk releasing an unpopular doujin with an unpopular character that only sells a few hundreds, if that.

Phantasia was sort of a side grade from BG2. Instead of less girls that are slightly smarter, you get hoards of slimes, orcs, skeletons, mages, and sometimes dragons. I will say that I've failed way, way more missions in Phantasia than I ever did in BG2 though since if you make a mistake you get fucked real quick. In BG2 most missions besides the Shimakaze are pretty straight forward. On the lewd side they made the interrogations a notch more lewd and I was actually fairly impressed they got that close to having tentical rape show up in a console game.
BG1 is really subpar and mediocre at best and I wouldn't suggest you even try that one now.

The BG games aren't really anything special in the TPS department but I think as a whole BG:P is pretty fun and worth getting on PS4. Stay away from the Vita version of BG:P though, even if you can get it for free.

They most certainly are, but I was trying hard to be objective and not try and oversell it or anything. If you like TPS and fanservice then most certainly give it a try on PS4. If you have a Vita then give BG2 a go too since they're both fun and different enough that I think both are worth playing.
