Sounds cool.

Lore wise the difference between a Knight and a Page is that a Knight starts off as fairly competent at their aspect, whereas a Page starts off as almost totally incompetent. The difference, and advantage, that a Page has a lot more growth potential than a Knight. Think of it like Frederick VS Donnel in Fire Emblem Awakening. Frederick starts out as a pre-promoted unit, but has mediocre growths. Donnel starts off as a peasant but has the best gen 1 growths in the game.

It's a real game and the disappointment from the epilogues has boiled over

Knights are active warriors, weaponizing their aspect in combat, but also tend to be obsessive and difficult to sort themselves out with. Pages are symbolized by a distinctive lack of their aspect, they have the most trouble handling their aspect than any other class. But once they do manage to get a handle on it, they are stronger than even Lords, the strongest "active" class. But it's not exactly a common thing.

A Page of Hope would be characterized with giving form to the immaterial, imbuing "fake" and "imaginary" things with truth, drawing them into existence. As well as an overwhelming force of energy that nothing can stand up to.
A Knight of Hope would instead be characterized as a combatant, wielding their faith to empower themselves and smite down their opponent. Think a Paladin-kind of class.

If we can keep getting away with it, the threads will keep getting made. Anything to have a decent fucking discussion about the series.

Bards are destroyers, enabling destruction of their aspect or through their aspect around them. A Bard can easily win your game singlehandedly, or kill your entire team. Life is the aspect of creation and motivation. So a Bard of Hope might destroy by resurrecting forth monsters under their thrall, or cast Instant Death spells, depending on their mood.

A webcomic with heavy multimedia elements (including extended animations, with an original soundtrack, and small games) that ran from 2009 to 2016. It started life as basically a forum game (people made suggestions for what the characters should do next) but soon expanded well beyond that.

It's a bizarre self-parodic creation myth in which four teenagers play a video game that ends the world but gives them an opportunity to create a new one. It spirals into alien worlds, ontological paradoxes, and Sweet Bro and Hella Jeff (which you should definitely check out, even if Homestuck itself is hit-or-miss).

It also has a spinoff video game called Hiveswap, which is being released episodically. The first episode came out in 2017, the second should be coming out "soon"; there are slated to be four in all. A visual novel spinoff of the spinoff, Friendsim, was released episodically over mid to late 2018, with 18 episodes.

Also all of this becomes irrelevant because the author near the end gets obsessed with subversion and metatext elements, ruining the entire comic in the process.

So I checked out the homestuck meetup at Anime Expo this year for the first time, and it was about as silly and juvenile as I expected it to be, in a really heart-warming sort of way. The Terezi leading the function made sure everyone would clear the fuck out the way for passerbys, so they really went the extra mile to not be annoying which was cool. The troll cosplays were actually all pretty decent too, which was surprising. Even the most basic ones were totally presentable despite the stigma.

I was with a friend that wasn't really doing anything at the time, so I only mingled for a minute. Everyone was nice, but I didn't bother flirting or asking for numbers or anything like that though, still too fucking unused to hitting on people and making advances. I swear to god though I'll bang a Vriska or Terezi before I die though.

PBS did a brief about Homestuck comparing to Ulysses. The actual comparison was that both were obtuse works that rewarded people for sticking with it. Hussie instead got under the impression that he was the next James Joyce, and started shifting the comic towards metatextual elements and trying to make deep, insightful commentary on stories. He is not good at this.
Because of this he became obsessed with the idea of cliches and tropes. Rather than focusing on good writing, or entertainment, he started exclusively seeing story elements as overdone or not overdone. Character arcs were completely derailed, and the whole thing shifted to this godawful garbage where everything shifted to have a major LGBT focus. Think Dave ranting about toxic masculinity and you'd be exactly on the money.

After a pitiful and disappointing end, he hired fanfic writers to write an epilogue. Said epilogue was fairly bad, but the remaining fans tended to like it either because they were pretentious enough to think that baby's first metatext had any merit, or because half of it is spent with Dave angsting over being gay.

I guess in retrospect this is true, but I enjoyed Meat while I was reading it just because unlike the end of the comic proper, it was it's own self-contained story with a fairly obvious progression. As opposed to a story trying to tell it's own sequel before the original plot line has even been concluded.

That said, all the stuff about subversion is spot on. Let that be a lesson to future authors. Subversion for it's own sake is wasteful. Easy example; your audience by default expects a good story. Subverting that expectation is trivial, but yields only negative results.

It's ironic isn't it? Hussie really seems to hate his own audience, for no other reason than the fact that they loved what he made. So he sought to hurt them by subverting his own story and mocking his fans, but he ended up being trapped in Homestuck. Despite everything else he's done, he's just "That Homestuck guy", and that's all he'll ever be. The really sad thing is that if Homestuck ended well, he could've gone anywhere, done anything. Breath is literal wind, but also about motivation and inspiration. Not only will you know the eddies of the wind currents at any time (have fun identifying people by their microcurrents in the Breeze), but also you'll be able to understand what can motivate people into action and inspire them to take flight too.

Think of the Breeze as sweeping people up in it, and you are the Breeze. Breath is very much a main character aspect when utilized properly.

Way too much to list in one post. Way, way, way too much. Like, you are asking for the impossible right here.

Homestuck is something I don't regret reading, and is probably the biggest piece of media to take control of my life when I was a youngling. I don't think anything will ever come close to the excitement homestuck gave me when we were collectively waiting for updates to drop, and losing our shit day in day out.

At the same time, no piece of media has ever left me with as much scorn or disappointment as this one, and I'm STILL not fucking un-mad with the way things turned out. To put it in perspective, this is like the people that got left with phantom pain from MGSV except with a seven year investment. I will never NOT be pissed off over this shit.

You can easily get some enjoyment out of it, but you will inevitably be shocked by how fucking shitty the ending and downhill slide is. I've seen other people pick it up after the comic's death. They've all come to understand why everyone's so burned by it.

hussie introduces 12 new characters, tumblr latches onto them, homestuck's popularity explodes and hussie changes plans to appeal to his new audience
as time goes on, the quality sinks and sinks while hussie continues to milk the fuck out of the comic, eventually culminating in a 2 million dollar kickstarter in 2012 for a game that has yet to be fully released
on the side, the comic suffers with garbage writing, a lack of satisfying arcs for characters that deserve them, and eternal blueballing for anything you can imagine
finally, after years of pauses and breaks followed by short updates, he goes back and retcons like 4 years worth of updates with a "clever" (read: retarded) way of integrating it into the plot
after that, more hiatuses followed by a 0 effort finale that resolves nothing and fixes nothing
then recently we get epilogues which further shit on the legacy of the good parts of the comic and at this point it's just a festering shithole of lost potential and broken dreams

Well the passive/active stuff is only in regards to how you affect your aspect, so it's possible you'll still be an active person. Roxy was actively making stuff pop, bringing them into relevance, "stealing" void as a side effect of that.
So maybe you'd be able to "steal", the "heart" (soul, feelings, character) or a character and you acting like them would be a side effect of that.
No idea how it's combat applicable though. I hope if we get a new session we'll see more of some aspects like Mind, Blood, Rage and Doom.
