Two stories.

The first starts with this thing. This is a virtual Pikachu pet made in the days of Tamagotchi and Digimon. It was kind of unique in that you didn't really "feed" or care for it. You could give it watts, and it would increase your love, but the main thing that you would do with it is just turn it on and check in on Pikachu, who would be doing a huge, random assortment of different things depending on how long you had him, how much he loved you, and what time of day it was.

Back in the 90s, I had one, and within the first week or so of owning internet, I was searching for anything on this device. Eventually, I found this one page which was just some kid writing a blog on the toy. It was black background, yellowish text with a couple of animated .gifs of Pikachu, and this kid would just write a log of what day it was and what Pikachu was doing. I remember at the tail end of it, there was just this long write up of how sad he felt because Pikachu "died", (or what he actually did was wave good bye to you and walk off into the distance). Kid went through several emotions and was learning how to cope with it for at least a day or two.

That being said, that reminds me of another thing super early internet was a bunch of people making animated .gifs of people killing Pokémon. I think it was just the adults at the time didn't understand that kids loved Pokémon as much as people love dogs and cats, so showing a spike going through a Pikachu's head and it bleeding out was pretty much the same as showing your kid a picture of you killing their dog.

I think the adults caught onto how far over the line that was for the kids, cause that fad didn't last very long.

I was a little bit older, but this was still in the super early days of the internet.

I found this weird site while looking for jokes that was supposed to be a "kid's" website. But the entire thing had this cynical sarcastic undertone to it, where it would keep bringing up the fact that "you're bothering mommy when she just wants to drink her wine" up. The whole site was aimed at trying to distract the children with excessively and disappointingly meaningless activities.

One of them was this incredible shaggy dog story that I wish I could find. The entire text itself was designed to distract you. It went on for paragraphs and paragraphs, and every other line would decrease the size of the text by ½ a font. So like halfway through the story, you ran out of zoom on the web page and had to start copy and pasting into a word document.

The actual story was probably like 20-40 pages in size 14. It basically told the story of this king who wanted to do...something. He went out with 1,000,000 knights across the land. Each night, he would set up his encampment, go to sleep, and then he would wake up to find that half of his entire army was slain. Off in the distance, he could just barely make out a figure. This went on and on and on and on, as the figure, which turned out to be a black knight got closer each night that he lost exactly one half of his men.

At the end of the story, the king goes to sleep with himself and one other, and wakes up to find the other dead, and the black knight standing out side of the tent. The king simply asks "Was this your doing?" and the black knight says "No".

. . .and then the story ends.
