I got some gay fairy shit from a shania twain cd and never played again
why you listening to shania twain in the first place nigga like come on dude hahaha
I vaguely remember liking the cartoon as a kid, shame it's almost lost media at this point. It's hard to get interested in this series when their mascot is just a yellow eyeball sperm, that's the design they put up front?
Reminder that a new Monster Rancher game is being announced on the 24th.
Bean Bag Sonic
The fucking genre has barely advanced past what Monster Rancher 4 offered. Fucking Tecmo, they could have had something if they didn't feel so attached to the CD gimmick.
Up until last year every time I saw the name Monster Hunter I thought this was the franchise they were referring to.
How did the CD gimmick even work?
It really sucks that this series is dead. No other game does the whole monster raising bit as well, especially since Digimon World switched to a more pokemon-ish system.
Was thinking the same thing when playing Monster Hunter Stories, it really stagnated after the PS2 era
Wishful thinking.
DS 2 did the game fine without a CD gimmick. The issue is that nobody bought it. It wasn't CDs that killed the franchise, it was EVO for being too different. Sales tanked to nothing after it.
One of my fondest memories is my siblings and I going through dads stack of cds and spending weekends just notating which cds made which monster.
how did that work? were you able to pull out the cd game and puc any other cd?
DO DO DODODO DODO
LET'S GO GIRLS
It's seeded on AB
Yes, you take out the game cd and place another CD, it reads the CD, put back the game CD and poof a monster(or you get cucked because you haven't unlocked the reqs for the monster)
You went to the shrine in town and said you wanted to summon a monster from a CD, then you'd get a prompt to take your CD out and put that one in, it'd get scanned and tell you to put the MH one back in, then it'd go through the summoning animation for your new monster. One thing about the old playstations is that they preloaded data from the CD onto the console and didn't have a failsafe in case it was open, meaning it didn't shut the game off when you took the CD out. That's one thing you noticed a lot if you were a kid and had a lot of scratchy shit disks, most games wouldn't freeze or crash when you took the disk out and you might even be able to play it for a bit, it crashed only when it came time to load new data.
>keeping those free AOL and netscape CDs just to see what new monster you could get
sssssssssssssssssiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiipppp
Thems were the days
I've always wondered if the monsters you got from most CDs/DVDs were randomly chosen from the whatever data the disc had, or if the devs really had to choose a specific monster for like the Men in Black soundtrack.
Most of them just use the data from the CD as a seed, so it's the same each time from the same CD but it's random. Some of them are 100% intended by the devs though, either because there was a tie in thanks to being released by the same company, a promo, or just as an in-joke on the dev's part.
Could be possible a modern version of this where the game read other games save files or other games you own in the hard drive to make up monsters?
Theoretically yes, but security might stop that sort of behavior.
I believe the DS let you draw a pattern or use voice input to generate a monster.
Favorite monster type? I've always been fond of gels myself.
Zuums. They're baby's first monster, but I've had a lot of good experiences with them and think they're cute.
∠( 'ω')/
I fucking love Jells, they always had the most interesting animation
Durahan is my go to. I really like the Arrowhead/Henger and Kato/Tiger breeds as well but I probably raise more Durahan's than anything else
I remember doing well with Durahan in the Advanced games after unlocking it.
That would be a cool idea. They should think of some way to bring the game back to console instead of fucking everyone over with a gacha game which is what will probably happen if they make a new
Plant
>Lives forever
>Top tier guts regen
>Imagine losing to a fucking leaf
They already tried to turn it into a phonegame and failed, but leave it to companies to be retarded.
Well Durahans are simply better Golems, that's why it's an unlockable instead of a default.
