Super Mario 128
9 year olds are just human beta builds
beta oot or mother 3 n64 are the ones i want the most
Mother 64
It was literally that tech demo we've already seen
Prey
All of WoW's pre-alpha and alpha builds.
I unironically want sonic xtreme. There was so much advertising for the game yet nobody
...released it.
The one time it dosent ask for captcha i hit enter on accident
Blizzard allegedly have playable builds going all the way back to 2001. I'd love to see what the game was like, or was going to look like, back then.
Starcraft Ghost
Let's be real there weren't that many major differences between this and the final build.
Alpha minecraft with actual players
Why do Nintendo 64 betas seem a lot more mysterious?
Any of the previous iterations of Duke Nukem Forever.
>That polluted garbage water planet was a clear ocean in the beta
I just want to know what the hell this place was even if it was just a test area
I wouldn't. Vanilla WoW is a joke right upto 1.12 because the devs only really started addressing class balance and so on throughout TBC and only started to take out retarded features like melee leeway during WOTLK. The game has gotten worse in some ways but improved in others. I guess they can still be comfy PVE experiences but honestly the PVP and the fact that hybrids are worthless outside of healing roles is a real turn off in an RPG.
This will always be the Sequel that Got Away
Castlevania: The Bloodletting
I wouldn't care about class balance, hell I doubt classes were even implemented in 2001. I'd just want to see how closely proto-WoW resembled WC3, and what they were planning on doing with all the content that eventually got cut.
They have every build archived somewhere in their database. Hopefully one day they're released officially or get leaked.
>that one game you originally buy a console for that gets cancelled
God damn I love the aesthetic of mid level WoW. It all goes to shit at end game. Same can be said for the gameplay desu.
Triforce hunting oldfag here. I gave up the hunt years ago, but I'd still kill to see the unicorn fountain, sky temple, and all the other cut shit from OOT
Supposedly Wind Waker had a lot of cut content (2 dungeons). Would've been very interesting so see what the game would've been like.
I remember reading somewhere that some of the TP dungeons took mechanics/gimmicks/inspiration from the scrapped WW dungeons.
I believe Chris Senn (the director of the game) uploaded most of the material he still had on him some time back. There was some playable levels that fans managed to port to PC using those assets and Sonic Z-Treme (a fan game made from Sonic Xtreme levels for the Saturn). There's not much unfortunatley.
probably Whomp's Fortress

not betas but close enough
cliche as fuck, but Valve probably has more canceled games and project than released ones.
and I really want to take a look at them, specially "invasion" era tf2, but if it has to be only one game.
the hl2 leak we have is not even half the shit that German kid found, there's probably an HDD/dvd floating around with shit that no one outside valve or that kid have ever seen.
>tfw this guy would get banned in basically any modern mmo for saying this
I want to go back...
I'd actually like a look at EP3 beta stuff. I'd like to see how far they came along with it. How many iterations. Just knowing they actually even fucking tried would be nice.
that's the staircase with the thwomp in whomp's fortress
Wind Waker had an entire half of the game cut out. In the concept art it's shown that you were originally supposed to spend more time underwater and do dungeons down there, and it would've been the equivalent of the dark world. You would've used fishing rods to ascend back to the surface. Wind Waker was extremely rushed.
Anything Sonic Xtreme/Sonic Mars.
I wonder if there's a way to implement similar lighting.
>those playtesters who couldn't figure out that cave in one of the episodes
>those FUCKING playtesters who couldn't handle those extra gels in Portal 2
I'd imagine there are a million other cool things we don't know about, just from released games alone. My vote is probably also for Valve shit.
Wasn't that staircase slanted and not an actual staircase?
Obligatory
i really want to play any of the mario rpg betas. mostly paper mario 64 and smrpg interest me the most
stalker 2
The Kirby GCN game before it turned into Return to Dreamland.
youtu.be
the other side was, but if it wasn't an actual staircase then the thwomps couldn't be there. see pic related
From what I remember there is an early game test on the internet when they were using a similar engine to the one used in Nights after Yuji Naka took it from them. That game test was going to be shown to the SEGA executives but Point of View arrived first to the meeting with their own version which I believe is also available to the internet.
This got canned because of trouble with the multiplayer (or so iwata said). But the trailer doesn't look far off from multiplayer in return to dreamland or star allies. I really wonder what was the issue with it or if that wasn't the real reason
I'm still mad about this
Sonic Xtreme is fucking garbage
it got far enough to get concept art and a rough script, there's probably way more stuff that valve just has molding in their servers.
It's impossible without source code. You can get kind of close with ENB shaders but it's all screen-space and poorly approximated. The lighting engine was scrapped entirely and never used again. Since they've been using the Bloodborne branch since I doubt it'll ever make a return.
This.
Any of the old Duke Nuken Forever footage looked amazing and better than the shit that eventually did come out.
What a shame, game is already great as it is imo, but it couldve been even better.
I find this the most interesting just because of the effect it had on other games going forward. A good chunk of the game seemed to be refolded into Return to Dreamland (HR-D3 in Extra Mode, the octopus-ship you wreck with Monster Flame in Onion Ocean, the fact that Another Dimension's music is titled 'halberd' in the game's files despite the level lacking the ship in any way), but concepts have survived all the way to Star Allies considering the fact Morpho Knight even exists. I wonder how much GCN inspired in Triple Deluxe and Robobot.
Still doesn't seem like Whomps Fortress though from this other pic
my yet and forever unrelased video game
Twilight Princess. The beta forest areas were always pretty neat looking to me. I doubt there was anything more to them than what you see here.
Doom 4 before it was cancelled and turned into Doom 2016.
Granted it's probably a piece of shit but I'm just intrigued by the whole thing and the direction it went.
Shit that picture brought back some memories. Do you remember Ariana Almandoz and the Temple of Light hoax?
web.archive.org
because nintendo was desperately trying to get games running on their shit console so there was a ton of revisions
>not playing z-treme
RE 1.5
Crash Twinsanity
Mega Man Legends 3
>3Dreals still have old builds but randy wont let them release them
Badass
Would've been forgettable, ala Timeshift, Fracture, Haze, any other early 360/PS3-era shooter. I don't like Doom 2016 that much, but I prefer it over what I've seen of Doom 4.
The textures of beta Mario 64 and Zelda burned my eyes as a kid
I completely forgot about that. Weren't there also Assassins Creed, Saints Row, and Chocobo Racing games announced at the 3DS' launch window too?
Oh yeah I have no delusions that it would be good. More interested in the historical and archival sense of what they were working on before they flushed years of work down the toilet
Any of the Classic Sonic games really, but especially the original Tokyo Toy Show demo for Sonic 1, too bad Sega lost the drive containing it
I completely agree. Now you know how Prey and Duke fans feel.
Shit would you have originally gotten the triforce shards from completing those underwater dungeons?
Reminds me a lot of that maze screensaver
Ura Zelda and Dream
Kys nerd
GTAIII on the Dreamcast
The most frustrating part is Rare is confirmed to have dumped ROMs of Conker 64, Dream SNES and 64 as well as beta builds of Banjo Kazooie
I have everything I want, except the Megaman Legends build from E3 1997. Theres no chance it survived, but desired nonetheless
And legends 3.
I'd also like to own more than 2 builds of Project Nano, but as far as I can tell there's no more.
it bothers me so much that people call the ps3 build of gears of war 3 fake. its literally a "my dad works at epic" kind of scenario and theres no explanation for why it exists
Majora's Mask
Mother 64
Kirby's Adventure Gamecube
Metal Gear Solid 2, its been one of my favorite games ever since it came out and there was some interesting cut content.
youtu.be
Although I think some of the stuff shown in this video, like this, were just meant to show off some action sequences without spoiling that you were going to play as Raiden. Meaning I don't think Snake was ever planned to really fight Fortune or the Harrier.
The build of sonic adventure in which levels were more wide, open ended and actually took advantage of the terrain mechanics and control. That beta windy valley level was almost empty yet it was more fun than almost every stage in the game.
Pokemon 64, the cancelled 3d rpg for the 64 Disk Drive
Play testers are the reason why there's so few guns in HL2 compared to 1. Fuck play testers.
It could have been due to Hal dealing with Smash Melee and the Anime at the same time.
i do QA for a living. its literally as bad as you think. they need casuals to play it to understand the average consumer experience
Is it true QA are treated like shit compared to devs?
Super Smash Bros. Melee was already done by the time that they started development at the time though...
Post that beta you'd love to see more of but you're satisfied with what you have
>mfw Pokemon Gold Spaceworld 97 demo
I kinda got that with the Gold and Silver beta
I'd also fucking love to see what Donkey Kong Racing would actually play/look like instead of just the pre-rendered trailer we have. Honestly any plans rare had for DK before being bought out by Nintendo would be cool to see. I know the DK team was still doing Ghoulies at the time but they would still have to have some ideas and concepts planned
Wait, that actually existed? I had no idea, I heard games like Dead Rising 3 was planned for 360/PS3 originally, but not that.
yes. QA makes you want to kill yourself and then some. its a thankless job that must be done.
Let me ask the people who want the beta for sm64
Why do you want to play a beta version of this game?
It'll most likely be the same game with shittier textures.
what among your collection are you most proud to own?
I still think they could relive this version of the game.
youtube.com
>we want the call of duty audience
super mario sunshine
So you want to get your hands on 9yo’s?
Dreamcast ports in general
At least we got a rom of HL1 but shit like the Dreamcast port of Crash Wrath of cortex is long gone
theres one credible person i know that claimed they have Dead Rising PS3 assets and while im inclined to believe them, theres the fact its an xbone exclusive that makes this super fucking weird
its possible, but very unlikely
my knowledge
Seeing betas for 20+ year old games is really crazy to me. Its something that's been around longer than half the people I know, and to see even the slightest change, like a different health bar for example, always blows my mind.
Also FF7 had some interesting stuff.
Oh boy, if they put this out back then, 6 year old me would have had a ball
youtu.be
Considering the many misfires from the Wii U era, i'd love to know what went so terribly wrong with Bamco!MP4 that it convinced them to start from scratch.
I kinda wish that they released them as bonuses on the Rare replay, but with the obvious warning that the game is unfinished and unstable and can crash at any second
Here’s the full list of cancelled 3DS games
Sticker Star Beta would be cool I guess
Honestly though I only want it so people realize that the sticker mechanic was always planned and that the game would have been shit regardless of having partners or not
The impression I get is that QA finds all the fucking bugs and devs are lazy shits that call everything from a can't complete main quest or crashes a known shippable.
Devs are fucking shits
final fantasy could have multiple books on the series changes over time. but agreed, the shit that just appears so many years later is amazing
while its nowhere near as ridiculous as the gold/silver gba shit from spaceworld, biohazard 1.5 is one example of a game build where the fact it exists at all is already special, even if it wasnt dumped. there was an 80% build of it but the seller got spooked and never got that build
Smash Melee came out in 2001. Kirby GCN's trailer is from 2005, it certainly wasn't a being overworked thing, as HAL had even developed a powerful modular engine for the GCN at that point (hallab.co.jp
You could argue it was canned because the Wii was so close at that point, but the Wii being more or less some GCNs glued together I don't see why it wouldn't have worked on that.
I guess we will never know
probably something really boring like engine problems, or them not really understanding the fps perspective.
>megaman legends 3
It still hurts
nothing of value was lost then
except maybe legends 3
>MML3
>legends 3
>spend literal hours going over the same piece of tech or level
>every goddamn day
>and check every single thing to make sure its covered
>maybe even add/remove shit if i spot something not in my intended scope
>shit really only gets done if its some game crashing shit that stops progress of work
depending on who you work for its cancer or fun.
>BloodRayne
What happened to that franchise? Last I remember was the movie that was basically softcore porn.
>dmc 2's development was literally 2 months
is there any interesting game that's unreleased that you got to see? or is that under NDA still?
Morrowind or Oblivion would be beyond neat. Also Killer Instinct 1 on arcade would be fascinating to see the dev process for.
resident evil 4
goldeneye 007 remake for xbla
Im under NDA right now actually. they do let me say anything thats public and that i did stuff, but for keeping my identity hidden, i wont say. its fun and i trust these devs.
i just hope whatever feedback i give lets the intended playerbase enjoy it
HOT BLOODED DETECTIVE JOE
>You could argue it was canned because the Wii was so close at that point, but the Wii being more or less some GCNs glued together I don't see why it wouldn't have worked on that.
I know there's probably logistical reasonings as to why not to do it, but I don't understand why they didn't keep the Wii and GC lines running alongside for games for a while. Have the Wii continue as is, and since it's 100% backwards compatible, use the GC line for budget titles.
Tekken 3
It's a miracle it's even a game at all
Aside from Pokemon G/S what other betas have leaked that people thought we'd never see the light of day
Most of that was released.
because the n64 was the genesis of true 3d gaming and devs could make games quickly so betas and full releases were crazy different as they experimented with what worked and what didn't
Spore
Resident Evil 1.5. Still doubtful about the RE4 prototype, though.
>Aside from Pokemon G/S what other betas have leaked that people thought we'd never see the light of day
ps1 superman youtube.com
MML3, EB64, CTT, literally any SM64 build that isnt final, Scalebound, like 4 RE/BH games
I mean the Wii was a pretty budget device especially after it's first price drop to $200 so it probably didn't make sense to try that, but I can see your point
those builds did get out though.
Lets hope this remake will give him a chance to shine. It would really help with the sense of progression in the game, which is already astounding. You go from small time terrorists, hiding and trying to make a living while taking down the evil corporation in the slums to travelling the world looking for the man trying to destroy the world. Of course there's a lot of middle ground there, but later on when you look back on Midgar and think about how small-time all that was in the grand scheme of things, I would like to remember hot blooded detective joe as a part of it, as if at some point he was my greatest threat.
And I would bet he'd play a cool role in the return to Midgar. Settling differences to take down the bigger threat, I love shit like that.
not him but i just remembered there was a metroid prime build thats built for a gamecube with extra ram, which cant be run on a gamecube or wii, so a special build of dolphin had to be made to run it
was made for an NPDP dev box. Shits fuckin weird since the game came out as a wii title too
That ugly ass Metroid Fusion prototype.
Pretty much beta versions of Majora's Mask and Ocarina of Time. URA Zelda would be a nice thing to add but I'm certain that's just split between MQ and MM. I specifically wanted the Zelda 64 era of OoT beta. MM beta would be nice for any period.
Every single HL2 Dev Era version of the game up until final build, but in a much more complete state (playable from start to finish.) Add a newer version of the HL1 alpha and the 1998 version before it came out. Also Return to Ravenholm, Disney bought out the company making it after Arkane 'quit' on it mid development and made them make Epic Mickey 1 and 2 before shelving them from what I know.
Wanted They Hunger: Lost Souls but Jackathan was retarded enough to make the play testers of it break their NDA's and give him 2 builds of it. Have them saved cause he's been trying to DCMA uploads of it so he doesn't get fucked.
Used to want Agartha (Dreamcast game that never came out) but the E3 Demo for that got released and you can play it on an emulator.
Contrast (Compulsion Games) would be neat. We Happy Few would be as well but I played it during Early Access. More during when it was called Glimpse.
Bioshock Infinite's would be neat, but I'd prefer the final game more probably.
Banjo Kazooie/Dream. Earthbound 64. Goldeneye 007 for XBLA. Sonic Xtreme/Mars/Other ones and that SatAM one. Shadow of the Colossus.
whats that game you were looking forward to, but got cancelled
Elveon, and im glad some people found some builds of it
pre-release mario world looks super interesting
what's most crazy is that as far as we know, the "final" game we got is still pretty unfinished, the rom is full of unused and beta shit and alot of it is still functional
creator released the source code for Ztreme btw
So you can develop more onto it if you want
What happened there?
Originally they made Super Mario Bros. 3 on the SNES to test things out. This is probably a remnant of that.
>that mario sunshine prototype with humans instead of piantas
>legends 3
fuck crapcom. I still haven't forgiven them even on their redemption arc
The cons of release a game next to a console. I remember Miyamoto said that if they had had more time, the game would have been better.
>we will never know what was in the top of the world map
Half Life 2's beta and all its weird recovered content is really interesting. Certainly looks more unique than the blandness that is half life 2
Never heard of that, sounds interesting. I wonder if the GCN was ever designed to have a RAM expansion like the N64. I've heard the expansion port it uses for the GBA player is unusually high speed for such a device, which maybe indicated at some point it was designed for a memory expansion
Here's a ki 1 doc from the rare replay for anyone interested. I can't believe that made the game in just 10 months, absolutely bonkers.
>better
It is already the best 2D Mario.
mario 64 pre-95
just interested in seeing the process
iktf
Mario 3 is better
>Legacy Collection 2
Fuck you Capcom I wanted portable 7,8,9,10
>never heard of it
here
hiddenpalace.org
yeah that one, though the link for the rom is in the one above
The backgrounds of the beta of the first New Super Mario remind me of Yoshi's Island.
youtube.com
Battlefront 3.
Location test builds of Night Warriors. There were apparently still a few around as of a few years ago.
I think you're onto something here. I have a jug of 2% smoothie beta in my fridge
>because nintendo was desperately trying to get games running on their shit console so there was a ton of revisions
literally had to rig a genesis controller to an SGI workstation to get going LMAO
There was a DC port for WoC? Holy shit
This is pretty much all I have the Switch for after Breath of the Wild got boring for me. I emulate that with the Zelda mod now so I can stare at Zelda butt all day on my PC.
All I want is The Long Dark port that they have on the Switch. They showed it running on it in the latest dev log but they said it's like 15 FPS when they want 30 FPS. It's only optimizing code for now from what they said so I'm certain after a point they'll get a version of it running. Maybe then I'll be autistic enough to carry a Switch around with me just to play it.
>ywn go back to 2005 hunting for the triforce with your forum bros and bitching about how long twilight princess is taking to come out
Zelda 64 looked really interesting, before it became Ocarina of Time. Love that primitive shit.
the various RE4 prototypes.
Also KH3 beta stuff, with a development cycle of 5 fucking years there has to be alot of cut content
I'd argue it's not the best 2D mario, but I'm pretty sure it's the 2D mario with the best physics and most comfiest controls. They're so fucking good nintendo couldn't replicate them again in mario maker, smw in mm just feels off.
I would settle for some 1080p footage of it. It's hard to discern how badly it was actually downgraded based on this one low quality video that is used everywhere.
Animal Crossing Wide World beta
this shit right here
this game would've been fucking terrible from the looks of it but the graphics are probably the most impressive thing ever attempted on the SNES
Enter just makes a new line
faggot
My understanding is that Shattered Memories is a pretty good approximation of what this was going to be but I find it depressing still. Story is the weakest part of SM and not being a pseudo remake would ave helped greatly.
>hammer bros and sledge bros. could have been in SMW
cool. do we know about any other cut content?
>completely new sprites for chain chomps and hammer bros.
i don't think so. it's definitely beta content. you can even see yoshi's beta designs.
tcrf.net
there's loads
wasnt it just a warcraft 3 mod at that point?
Not even close
Do we have any idea who the mysterious original director of DMC2 was?
we dont
SOmebody out there has the only surviving prototype copy of Super Mario Kart, and it hurts that that person isn't me
The beta snow level theme was a great track:
youtube.com
youtube.com
>URA Zelda would be a nice thing to add but I'm certain that's just split between MQ and MM
According to TCRF, there's Ura Zelda code in OoT that tries to overwrite some of the map files, those map files being the dungeons. It seems likely that the only thing that ever existed of Ura Zelda was Master Quest.
>the fucking small door used in every kaizo hack is actually an unused item
I never realized this holy shit
FOUR FUCKING MONTHS
kind of weird that none of the stuff in the image you posted is shown in that page
Yeah, I knew that already but it also edits a few characters in Hyrule Market (an old guy wearing blue wears brown when URA is forced on or vice versa.)
Just seems like a late cut and they didn't feel bothered to find a way to actually release it until WW.
God that's the most 2009 image I've ever seen
I know that there was some assets leaked, but a prototype of Pokemon Red/Blue that has the front sprites of all 190 planned Pokemon and its original story would be amazing to have a proper look at. The early versions of Zelda 64 that existed before child Link was ever a concept, and Link apparently lived in the house next to Lake Hylia, would be amazing too. Beyond that, I'd love to see the original NES version of Zelda III if it was ever in any kind of demo-able state, though I can't imagine it ever was.
> but it also edits a few characters in Hyrule Market (an old guy wearing blue wears brown when URA is forced on or vice versa.)
Really? I've never heard about this
Earthbound 64
youtu.be
There's actually a youtube channel that goes into detail about all these games cut content and beta releases. Problem is the guy making the videos is just has to shove his horrible jokes into every video, multiple times a video.
>tfw Nintendo had you fooled for years that the reason yoshi can't go in the ghost houses was because he's too scared and not a technical issue
Only in the initial stages. By 2001 it was its own game, although it was still based off the WC3 engine.
>A Boy and His Blob
Never knew about this. That's a real shame since the wii game was great.
Is it that Beta64 guy?
I'm fairly certain it came up in one of those URA Zelda videos by Hard4Games or someone similar. I think ZethN64 (URA Zelda Restoration guy) figured out how to load up URA data forcibly in an emulator (usually the game just won't let you load in if you have it on URA mode) and it changes them up. It looked buggy as hell if I remember with the characters that were changed being glitched up in placement.
I don't think NES Zelda 3 was ever a thing, dude
That's because TCRF is about stuff that's actually still in the data of the released game. The stuff in the pics in question is no longer present anywhere in the released game's data.
Yep. He'll give you a bunch of solid content, then some horrible skit or joke like the "How to play Luigi in SM64" bit
Beta64 is a huge tool by the way, dont buy into his shit until he can be less of a fag and properly source his shit
>Yoshi was planned for the first Super Mario but was not added for "technical problems."
>Advenutre Island II lets you ride different dinosaurs.
newfag here, what is this? a devkit?
Necroscope, my favorite book series, was going to get a game but Rockstar killed the game and had the team make the PSP GTA Stories games. The game didn't look that close to the content of the books, but I still would kill to play it.
Also unrelated but I started looking through Zeth's reddit and found footage where you could just ride Epona into Hyrule Castletown
The Onett stage from Melee has leftovers from EarthBound 64.
neat
EARTHBOUND 64
1996-2002 betas are the most kino. really just n64 and gamecube. a few interesting sega ones. but several key n64 and gc games are shrouded in this sense of mystery and darkness. its a really kino feeling
A lot of these games were heavily rushed and unfinished, Super Mario 64 was only like a quarter of the originally envisioned game
Blair Witch had 3 Resident Evil clones that actually helped explain some stuff from the actual movie and some more backstory for it.
They were pretty good for story but gameplay was meh. I'd love for some of the beta shit to get documented on it and also maybe rereleased with a wrapper. You can get them really easily but the process of trying to rebind your keys takes like 20 seconds per key because it's a slow ass windows 95 interface rather than the in-game one.
>RE4
So many damn prototypes made for that game. Devil May Cry and Onimusha were originally gonna be RE4 at some point. It's why both of the first titles had more of a survival horror feel to it and had tank controls. God Hand even reused alot of RE4's assets.
Fuck off kino fag. Pick up a webster's
>this sense of mystery and darkness. its a really kino feeling
It's like a secret that very few people know.
Mario 1 has no mapper
Adventure Island 2 uses MMC3
There's a romhack of mario 3 (also uses MMC3) that adds in yoshi
At the time of mario 1 there really was no way to have yoshi
They should just hire speedrunners. They're already doing that every single day, for free.
The original vision for Destiny before it got butchered for the mass market because Activision thought the story was too complex for casuals and didn't have enough possibilities for DLC
I know for fucking certain there is a 2013 build of the game on some server/hard drive at Bungie. I want to play it so fucking bad - even if it is short or underwhelming it would be closure to see the original vision of what Destiny was supposed to be
youtube.com

Halo, I don't know how playable their early stuff was but
>first the RTS
>third person mac designed one
>the almost finished one that was shown at e3 2000, had those big spiked herd creatures
all three version look cool, just want to walk around the maps in them
they could but then you might get feedback only helpful to speedrunners
The worst part about Legends 3's cancellation is that Aero will never get more fan art.
>Dreamcast port of WoC
That's bullshit but I believe it.
eat my crapper fagboy. that would feel kino :)
exactly. remember those tiny little screenshots you might have seen in a magazine and then wondering where it is in the full game? or how it looks different? this song in melee brings out the same feeling and i always put it on when in these threads. what were the teams thinking in 1999 going into 2000? where was the market headed? did they learn enough from the primitive and janky n64 games? how much changed in graphics, controls, concepts? nintendo and rare were true pioneers
Had there been a game in "open development" or whatever they called the model where fans help out since this?
The 2004-2005 betas of New Super Mario Bros are really charming and delightfully strange. I'm still upset they got scrapped for the soulless final version we got.

DON'T FUCKING REMIND ME
MY 3DS BECAME A DUST MAGNET WAITING FOR THAT GAME
Bloodstained: Ritual of The Night is the only other game that had that treatment that I can think of.
Wind Waker had so much potential I really wish they hadn't rushed it. That worked for MM only because they reused so many assets.
just imagine if mario's voice never changed from this and he would have this voice forever, yosemite sam screams and all.
VB Mario Land, because it looked like it was gonna continue the Mario/Wario feud with Gunpei's supervision along with some potentially bizarre stuff you'd only find in a Wario-related game.
Is it inside the pyramid where you fight the hand boss?
The first NSMB has a lot of soul compared to the rest of the saga.
I wouldn't assume so since didn't you lose a life if you got shoved off the platform?

I hope they show off the rest of the scrapped mons someday.
Yeah, a redditfag turned it into a badly spec'd PC after hosing the valuable harddrive. Then tried to play it off as him being a badass. The real joke is he could've sold it for thousands.

The original Mother 3. It's a tragedy that we didn't get the game.
Mario RPG 2 and Mother 3
RE4's betas all looked amazingly kino.
It looked a million times worse than the GBA game and you know it
Mature 2D spritework>primitive 3d graphics, also the designs they were using were straight up worse most of the time
RE4 Beta's were so good one of them became DMC
>you could kick and punch in the original NSMB
wow, i'm surprised they didn't bring this back.
Why does it seem like there are never anything from the PS1 or PS2 posted in these threads?
You mean the small empty field we all played in on livestream? Good times. It was amazing when we could place blocks.
almost all of these designs are good. why haven't they re-used them for anything?
RE2's been mentioned several times
I kind of want to play the Super Mario Sunshine Beta
Fuck yes. The controls and physics in SMW are damn near perfect for a Mario game.
There's actually a fuckload of unused dialogue in the game for the planned human characters. It's on TCRF
eh. shitty systems. shitty hardware. shitty games. theyre just mass produced shit for low iq retards who need something to play fifa on or pretend to have a relationship with in the case of jrpgs. nintendo dragged the industry forward kicking and screaming with its innovative hardware and designs while sony just tried to market things like voice acting, cinematics, and how big the games script is. all this shit unrelated to the actual game.
There's barely any weird beta shit from those systems
I feel like some of them are too rough for them to want to reuse them. I would use them but its clear gamefreak doesnt really care anymore
I'd like to see the Spyro 1-3 alpha/betas if they exist. I know several versions of Spyro 1 do.

We don't know for sure how the game would of been outside of that trailer show off, if anything like it, but I'm god damn sure, any of the other builds taken to completion would of been better than what we got in this timeline.

I looked through all of the Zelda Hard4Games vids and didn’t find it. I swear it was them tho
Kingdom hearts 1 and 2
I don't care about the artstyle. The game looked very unique and was much more ambitious than the Mother 3 we got on GBA, so it's sad that it never got released especially since major parts of the game were completed.
They also said they didn't have the 1.12 build, and then suddenly they did.
The former developer who wrote the WoW developer diary was asked about releasing alpha builds and he said they do have them.
I know we're all excited to see never-before-seen content from our favorite game, but we're obviously never going to get Half-Life 3. I can't help you guys there, but I do happen to have in-depth, insider information on all the lost content that was scrapped from Half-Life 2 in its development process. I understand that information on the cut content of Half-Life 2 is out there, but I've got inside knowledge on shit that's never publicly seen the light of day, stuff that not even the Russian team was aware of. It may not be Half-Life 3, but it's as close as we'll get to new Half-Life stuff.
I also have inside info on the lost content of Team Fortress 2. Apparently invasion was originally planned to be an expansion pack for Half-Life 2 with RTS elements like resources and shit.
I can post screenshots and shit from the lost Half-Life 2 Beta build and drop information about never-before-seen beta content. If you guys have questions I'll try to respond.
Here's my proof so you know I'm not LARPing. Check the dates on the files.

Dead rising 1 e3 2005
I'm playing BomberMan story 2 for ds, I'm not liking it, it's to diffrent from BomberMan Tournament.
Some basic information about the lost content:
>The leak was not the beta
The version of Half-Life 2 that was leaked in 2003 isn't actually a beta build, it's an early build of the final version that was made after all the lost content from the beta had been deprecated. It just so happens that there was leftover beta content on the leak but most of it was inaccessible or broken. We know this because beta maps constantly reference entities and textures which the leak's .fgd and .wad files do not have.
We had more luck with the source code and the beta maps that were leaked, there's just no compatible beta to play them on, unfortunately.
>What are some of the oldest assets that Valve created for Half-Life 2?
Some shit was dated as far back as 1999.
>Can we have a download of the beta build?
Not unless you want to mess around with the 2003 leak. The ACTUAL restored Beta build can't be played anymore because the authentication server for it is no longer in existence, so unless you are prepared to create a fucking crack for it, nobody can play it. The Russians have their own fixes though.
However, I do have 1,300 beta maps if any of you want to mess with them. They're unoptimized as fuck and compiling them will take centuries, just as a fair warning.
Can you post something more widely known so that us plebians can confirm it?
Dump what you want my dude. I'll hoard whatever you got
Even if we need to crack it, why not upload it just so we can later on?
Why doesn't Valve just release it all on the internet for the community? I'd love to see a community mod that makes the alpha/beta playable, some of the concepts were really cool.
>v35 and v37
The problem with the beta content was that it ran on an older version of the source engine. The differences are that leak models don't have any compatibility with the final source engine as their model versions(v34,v35,v36) are outdated and never had support in the first place. As a result, almost all the models from the leak can't be decompiled, modified or anything because of their model versions, not without a special compiler built for some outdated version of 3DSMAX that the restoration team made. When transitioning from v35 to v36, almost all the models were changed with a lot of them never making it out of v35 because at that point in time in the development process everything older was being scrapped for the design overhaul that would later become what we know of as Half-Life 2. Poly counts were increased and their visual appearance was modified, probably to fit with the art direction the game would soon take on for the final product:
The v35 viewmodels (Gordon's HEV arms in first person) were strikingly different from the final viewmodels. The v35 viewmodels are characterised by having a reddish-orange and blue hue to them instead of the yellowish-orange and grey hue the final models had.
Older model versions of the Antlions had bright orange skin.
I'd like to know who the fuck on Valve's dev team thought it was a good idea to draw obnoxious pink X's all over deprecated textures.
>Cool shit
>Brickbat
You could pick up headcrabs and throw them at enemies. Rocks too. In fact, there was a combine synth enemy whose head would fall off when killed and you could pick it up and throw it at other enemies. Pretty fun.
>Remote Control Manhacks
Most of this mechanic was sort of lost in the sands of time, what little that existed of it was replicated but it was a gameplay mechanic were you could climb into an APC and take control of a manhack remotely, using it to attack enemies outside.
>APCs
Combine APCs could be driven as vehicles.
>A Jetski
There was a jetski. Valve never even bothered to add a texture so the restoration team made their own.
>A gorillion guns
An AK-47, two SMGs, an HMG, a fucking OICW, a combine-issue sniper rifle, a BFG laser cannon used by a scrapped Combine cyborg enemy, an incendiary laser cannon wielded by a combine enemy, an Ice Axe, a Stun Baton, SLAMs, soccerball grenades(???), Molotovs, a rivet gun that later turned into the crossbow, and the Tau Cannon from HL1 were all available in the game as well as a different looking physgun and binoculars.
>Borealis/Hyperborea/The Arctic
Assets for the Borealis/Hyperborea/Arctic were made in the development process of Half-Life 2. It appears as if the Borealis was planned all along to be in HL2. Apparently you were also planned to go to Mossman's lab as well, who, in pre-release screens was dressed in purple and had blond hair. Unfortunately, this version of Mossman was lost in the sands of time.
>Gasmask citizens
An ANCIENT model of a City 17 citizen wearing a gasmask and a grimy work uniform existed at one point very early on. However, it was lost to time. The model didn't even have a texture, which explains his weird wireframe rendering you see in the screenshot. Later, a texture was built for the model.

There’s an entire channel dedicated to Dead Rising Beta builds. Good stuff.

Would be neat to have the beta though
I'm still so curious what they were gonna do with the story. Some kind of plot point about an imposter Oak?
Sourcemods like missing information exist that try to replicate the cut content, but the thing is they take too many creative liberties with the content and haven't made anything very significant.
The problem with a mod that replicates the beta is the fact that the leak source engine is incompatible with the final version of the source engine so converting all of that stuff to source would be a pain in the ass. The only considerable option is to do all of that stuff with the leak's engine, which is ridiculously unstable.
Wasn't the GBA version of Mother 3 only about 50-75% of Itoi's original plot?
I wonder if the 64 version would have given us a darker look at the world post-credits. I love the end result but I think that EarthBound 64 really had no qualms with presenting a bleak world- Mother 3 felt just a little constrained by being on the Gameboy.
>tons of shit from sunshine's beta was discovered and tested years ago
how did i only find out about this stuff this year?
I love it when autism is poured into passion projects.
what the fuck is that the actual gas mask citizen model? people have been looking for that for years, dump that shit dude
Because they are from an era before internet.
God, I hate collectors
Nioh's Alpha was still significantly better designed than the full game turned out and it should have stayed that way for the entire thing instead of them wasting dev time to actively make the game worse.
Can something really be called art if no autism is poured onto it?
That’s literally just a public map from the WC mappack.
>farfetch'd evo
>according to a leak that's most likely legit, farfetch'd will have an evolution in swsh
Wonder if they'll tap into this old concept design?
Ignore the Halo Assault rifle, it was a placeholder model
It's not going to happen. That build was made by a team of modders in 2005-2009, I don't have it. Besides, I'd have to consult the team to release it.
I'm fairly certain it was a replication.
This is from Team Gaben.
This is from The Axel Project
This is also from Team Gaben.
do we even know what gels we didn't get?
Not the guy, but it's a remake from like ten years ago. He's just posting screenshots from the old teamgaben website. The hammer screenshot is of a map we have had since 2003, and the '1,300 maps' are all maps we already have. I dont know why they are treating it like insider content.
>they didn't use these Hammer Bros designs for Mario Maker
missed opportunity
Why does he look like Jim Jeffries?
I always assumed that part of the problem was Sakurai stepped away from Kirby. He quit HAL in 2003/4 after Air Ride was released due to Nintendo's need for constant sequels. I wouldn't be surprised if he was part of pre-production or early development of the cancelled Kirby GCN title. Him leaving would have definitely shaken things up enough to force a restart.
I wanted this game for a long time, but honestly RtD ruined Kirby for me. The series has gotten too slow and it plays like an even blander Subspace Emissary. Would love something experimental like Amazing Mirror.
100% correct.
I do t watch gameplay promos to this day because of that footage.

The cancelled western Final Fantasy by Eidos. as much as I loathe the idea of filthy westerners taking the reign of FF, I was still interested to see how it would've turn out. Maybe they could've made FF stayed a turn-based.
My theory is that the Goron dungeon in TP was one of the two Wind Waker dungeons. It uses the iron boots remarkably early for a Zelda game and gives the player the bow almost immediately after they've just gotten the boomerang. The Fire and Ice islands are rumored to be where the dungeons were plotwise, and it makes a lot of sense since that's when the player earns the iron boots. Plus Fire Island would have clearly been a real lava dungeon if given the time.
The water dungeon strikes me as a good WW choice too, due to the way that adult link hangs in air from the overside grappling hook handles- that would be very on-brand for WW Link. Add in the water theme and relative complexity and it'd make a great late game WW dungeon.
Dumping depressingly complete original Duke Nukem Forever assets 1/7
Not exactly a proto, but Metroid 1.5 which was an early pitch for MP2 would've been pretty cool to see. It would've taken place in a ship with a rogue AI trying to kill and help you at the same time.
And if you count cancelled projects, metroid dread could've been nice as well.
Already out lol
Hearing that it had RPG elements like Deus Ex made me really want to play it. Would've been perfect for a Duke Nukem game
really would be neat to see what it was like
Some user came through about a year and a half ago with a whole bunch of Max Payne assets, teasing with screenshots and shit but didn't dump any actual files. feelsbadman.jpg
Final Fantasy 1. As I understand, Square was desperate and went all out while making it.
jesus that looks gorgeous
I always loved how the dkc games looked
looks like a shitty Doom 3 mod, glad they scrapped it
Never heard of that one, sounds interesting. If we're talking Final Fantasy, then of course we have to mention Versus XIII and all the other Nomura-era builds of FFXV.
>MML3
Yep, there goes my soul.
It's gone now.
There's an SCP which is a disc which generates any porno you want.
I wish we had the equivalent for generating stuff based off beta builds.
I found what you were talking about.
>Actually its the gameshark code modifying the actor space in the RAM, its not related to the Disk tag at all. When the disk tag code is on, its modifying the actor location of the File Select Menu's actor code. When entering game play, other actors fill that space, thus some areas crashing and other NPC's doing odd related things such as colour changes or no animations.
So it's just a bug from the Gameshark code. Ura Zelda is still just Master Quest. That's all it ever was or will be.
Prey 2, apparently the game was very close to completion so it may have a good amount of content.
unironically true
all the ps1 had was jrpgs, mediocre sports games, and fighters
the pokemon gold silver beta stuff still gets me, especially how it came out of fucking nowhere.
I have a beta build of a game being made by an indie studio. I don't want to risk getting into legal trouble though so I won't release it, but it's thoroughly unimpressive and they're lying to their kickstarter backers about the progress of the game.
And as a final reminder, the virtually playable build (80-90% finished) is out there. Randy fuckmothering Ptichford won't let it out though rpgcodex.net
They had to make him the same size as the other games' Hammer Bros
Cancelled 2D Rayman 2. Apparently it got quite far in production, but then they scrapped it and did a 3D game. I've always liked the artstyle of first Rayman and it's a shame none of the rayman games after that feel the same.
2 on the 3DS is probably the most soulless
Yeah that was it

>tfw we'll never get another game like Amazing Mirror in the current age where we have internet instead of having to buy a shit ton of link cables and be 2 feet away from a bunch of sweaty dudes
Doesn't that shit happen with every kickstarter
Rayman 2's beta is playable if you get all the lums in Rayman 2 for ps1 user, you should boot it up with a 100% save and check it out some time.

Holy shit that sounds fucking rad, imagine if more games did this.
I would really like to see a 'making of' video for Hitman 2016/2018. It seems like the developers made levels, then ran them for like 10 hours straight taking notes of every little thing. Every blind spot. Every guard path that left him too open. Every direction a made was facing. Every stormpipe and if civilians could see it. It sounds like an amazingly fun job and tickles my autism bone. Because the levels are SO perfect. You can tell how much thought went into every little thing. Like when a knife on a counter is just barely out of reach, or a patrol is 1 foot too far away to hear a coin drop from your side of the doorway so you have to step out. Fucking brilliant.

There's another 2 TP beta videos I uploaded on that channel too, with some interesting differences. I don't know how rare this footage is, but I've never even seen other people mention it before. It game from a random Australian GCN magazine.
The original Rayman for SNES seemed interesting.

Judging by the textures, Earthen Peak.
Thank you! I honestly had no idea about this, but now I'll certainly try that.
Touhou EoSD reportedly had a third playable character named "Rin Satsuki". Pic related is a character never seen anywhere else in the 2hu universe, except for this early promo art, many people in the fandom think it's Rin.
I'd love to see her in an early beta of EoSD, who knows? Maybe even other early versions of characters such as Sakuya or the Scarlet Sisters would be cool to see.
Battle Circuit when it was a racing game instead of a beat-em-up.
I heard Majora's Mask was planned to have 7 days, I wonder if that's true and made it in any build
Linkle mod is better.
Also you can hack your Switch and use mods on it directly.
Yes, a small part was uploaded to the internet, but other images show other levels/places.
i think it was intended to be 7 days in the early planning stages but got cut down to 3 before it was actually implemented. was probably a case of "yeah, a week sounds reasonable" "wait nevermind that's fucking insane"
Wait I though this got dumped already, there's so much info about it
Why
I don't think it ever had a big unused beta build, but I'd love to see a version of Spyro 1 that had all the conceptual shit implemented.
>two additional worlds, Machinists and Aquifiers
>swimming
>secret tasks to unlock levels, aside from the first flight level
>missions like in the second and third games
Honestly the beta of MP1 looks pretty bad, the final game is so much better, rare example of a final being far better than the beta
GTA III before the changes they made because of 9/11
Not exactly leaked, Michel Ancel released it.
the liberties are more due to not knowing what Valve really planned
Like the Creamtor's gun wasn't a flamethrower as it appears in many beta mods, it was more like a green coloured beam that vaporised everything
Wasn't early WoW just warcraft 3 graphics on steroids?
this
I remember someone saying that devs didnt actually change or remove much due to 9/11, besides some stuff like retextures and removing some shady character. i think theres more that was left in the beta that wasn't changed because of 3/11
I just know that everything Ura Zelda was going to have probably ended up in Majora's Mask and Twilight Princess but I still want to see it, it was worked on quite some time and it was probably the last time Miyamoto was truly involved in the development of a zelda game.
For the first year or so, yeah.
early WoW had more realistic visuals, the artists actually had a big argument during development over the direction of the game & the cartoony WC3 side won in the end
some of the more realistic human models are still in the game, notably in old hillsbrad
I think one of the missions a muslim guy got you to blow up a school bus, it was probably too edgy even for 2001
oh damn, that is definitely too edgy for anything post 9/11, hell maybe pre 9/11
I want my Spurdomon
Majesco is a stupid company and got rid of Terminal Reality who did the first two games then decided to do some shit 2D platformer done in flash by an SJW that wanted to cover Rayne up cause she showed "too much skin" and then the franchise officially died, Bloodrayne 3 never happened so the cliffhanger ending for Bloodrayne 2 never had proper closure.
>still turned out better than DmC
really makes you think
>those swimming controls
God I wish Nintendo still cared about 2D games
I thought the Muslim guy had you using a car bomb to blow up a construction site?
GTA SA
The beta looked interesting
Seriously seeing hyrule look so big the first time you see it it's probably some of the biggest teasing in vidya, such a disappointment when it turns out it's literally a hallway, I still loved the ending and overall story but it could have been the most dense Zelda game with almost no filler if it was complete.
Just remember everyone. If the fucking spaceworld demo for pokemon silver/gold can be leaked on the internet 20+ years after the event without any fanfare, literally any demo can be leaked at any moment.
I don't believe Onimusha was but DMC1 and Haunting Ground were definitely salvaged from early RE4 prototypes.
Issue with N64 beta's is people try to play them & they get wiped
The only vidya thing I would like to see is what the original ending of MGS2 was going to look like, fucking Osama ruined everything
isn't that just for rare games?
Beta Farfetch'd evo got turned into Lugia.
It’s for dev carts, they can be rewritten easily by shutting playing them. Not just Rare used them
That reminds me, didn't that DJMAXX game for 3DS get cancelled?
There was that one plane mission from GTA 3 that got removed because it involved flying it into a building
its really not. Cold Heart would have been a masterpiece, but it literally was just that, an idea that was too good.
>Dynamic, real life weather downloaded from online data.
>The player choices affects the characters psyche and thus the levels and game itself.
It was too good to be true.
Morrowind’s beta looks very interesting
Opening to the secret slide.
Rather than the beta, I would like to get my hands on the actual source code for Touhou. It supposedly has details and actual lore of the game written in it.
Certainly would have been interesting to see Climax do a fully original SH game.
Kirby 64 since it got gutted since it was meant for the disk drive. Was going to have all the animal friends back and Adeleine and Waddle Dee were going to be playable instead of just Dedede. They must have had some neat ideas for Adeleine to make her a main character only for her to act in a support role in the end

Sakurai Galeem'd him
Who?
Most likely related to the Goldenrod Radio Tower takeover by Neo Team Rocket - Oak had his own talkshow in G/S/C, so the imposter Oak would have taken over his show until you drive them out - in fact, I'm pretty sure the one screenshot I saw of him was in the Radio Tower. Funny that he was still featured in the card game despite being cut from the original games - I always wondered what was up with that card until I saw the SpaceWorld Demo. I'm honestly more intrigued by what the original plans were for the Ruins of Alph - the wall carvings were totally different from retail and seemed rather apocalyptic...

I always wondered how the original Conviction would have been.
isn't Mario RPG 2 just the name the game had before Nintendo called it quits with Square Soft?
I just wonder what makes a dev team that has something that already looks really well done say "nope, starting over", I haven't read about RE4 development but the videos I've seen all look good. I guess it all paid off considering how influential the final game was.
I'm curious if it was more "well this doesnt really fit, but I wonder if it would work somewhere else" mentality. Would make sense on the reboots and the multiple offspring of games that the beta spawned
you can see its working title in the debug room left over in the final game on the floor youtu.be
The graphics in SMW always felt like they represented that early SNES period where the devs didn't quite know what to do with the hardware except add more colors, I can definitely understand Miyamoto's point of view regarding the final game at least in presentation.
Original plans were to have the Ruins of Alph be in essentially what was the Hiroshima version of Johto right?
I guess Duke Forever circa 2003 or so
not sure if its already been posted... but Watchdogs... Id really like to experience that game like it was presented at E3 when it was announced and apparently playable and then just compare it again to the dog shit we got when it came out
bump
If it helps, the harrier bit is in, they are just using different models as part of the ruse cruise. The only bit missing thats not actively featured in the game is the flood chase, which I'm not sure why they cut out.

It’s still possible to play with the same graphics that were shown at the original E3, apparently the textures are still in the game files
I'm still mad.
Close enough to what OP is asking for: I really want the source code to Nintendo's operating system on the Wii, IOS.

That's just what nintendo did back then around the SNES era. They would make a game, then create like a 1.5 sequel to it and that'd be the release game. There's a similar unreleased version of Link to the Past that was completely different too.

>FFvsXIII
But then Verum Rex looks like it's going to be that so eh, close enough
>Pokemon gen 2 original
It's surreal that this even exists
>Freedom Force 3
Now this one, no prototype exists. It was only in the planning stages before Ken Levine dropped it to make Bioshock. But the idea of the Freedom Force tackling the Bronze Age, a time in comic book history most don't like to talk about, is fascinating.
Here is one

Cancelled Crash-like ps1 game
Check winter gameplay if you haven't already, that was going to be the real sh
Holy shit. Glad they ended up improving the art. That looks like ass. The great thing about Morrowind is the different cultures/great houses/races and how they are distinct from each other, yet all represent the look and feel of Morrowind. That screenshot ...I don't know what to think of it.
Epic topical reference!
fuck off
I'm not sure what you are getting at. Basically every design in that image is in the Morrowind that was released.
The Perfect Face feature from Perfect Dark. Still wish that thing got completed.
Go to sleep.
Would have liked to have seen some early designs of Zelda: GameCube before it became Wind Waker.
I actually got to play that
I didn't actually know it was Doom until YEARS AND YEARS later, when I watched the youtube documentary.
It was...okay. Very generic gunplay, but with some neat little UI-in-the-real-world flourishes. Imagine Metro but with demons.
If they fleshed it out, I can imagine it actually being pretty cool, but Doom fans would be totally justified in losing their shit
The funny part is, the vast majority, if not all of this trailer didn't even exist as a game yet. It's 100% bullshots
My god fucking this
I wanted Versus 13 so bad, 15 was shit
Also Shadow of the Colossus cut Colossi
>not showing the best build
youtu.be
nvm Im retarded didnt notice the first link
Oh, I know this one!
They actually tried something new with this game, where they had different teams from around the world work on different aspects of the game. They thought it might save time to have different aspects of development be self-managing.
Not surprisingly, things didn't coalesce, so they scrapped it all and brought it all back under one roof.
Probably the Onimusha meant for PS1.
the beta clothing, the cut missions, the skateboard, fuckign kino
why do remakes always go for 1:1 and never try to add unfinished stuff back in to expand the content?
I'm looking at you oot3D, MM3D, WWHD
Is it because of the fags that always cry about soul?
Looks like Whomp's Fortress near the staircase with the two Thwomps.
hey вocхoд2002, could you post more? I'm really interested into this stuff and I'm wondering if you still have some shit to post, do you have a blog or something for this kind of stuff? It's fascinating, to be honest.
I recall a friend of mine playing a pretty early build. No NPCs, insane lag, and infinite time under water.
DOOM 2016 early builds
I obviously wouldn’t KILL to get my hands on it but it'd be fun to just see how shit it was
Perhaps wet dry world's beta city or a version of lethal lava land we never got to see.
The Ruins of Alph originally depicted some sort of disaster on their walls. It's open to interpretation, and we'll likely never get an actual answer about them, but from what can be seen in this screenshot, they originally showed (from left to right at the top of the picture): A comet, a tidal wave, and earthquake with the ground splitting open(?), a fire, a hurricane(?), another comet, two humans (skeletons?), and another hurricane. The exterior was different, too, and vaguely resembled the WW2 Hiroshima monument with its outer walls removed. Creepy stuff.
Why dont faggot devs share this stuff, they must know we want to see it and it doesnt cost them anything
Just some little behind the scenes stuff
>dosent
Fuck off, kid.
That became Mario All-Stars didn't it?
A lot of the time, it's not worth seeing. It's literally worse versions of what we got in the final game.
Other times, it's something interesting that they might want to hold onto in case they decide to use it in a future game
Dark Souls 2 before they removed the lighting effect or the Kazooie "remake" of Mumbo's Mountain they made before Nuts and Bolts
ps1 devs of the big games people loved finished their games and didnt change stuff all the time
For things like spyro and crash theres no super early images or videos, everything we have is close to release
so not much mystery
I can't even be mad about this anymore. It's just hilarious to me how fucking stupid the devs were to change it.
Ouch
Painted world was just a prototype/testing level that Miyazaki liked enough to spit-polish and put in the game. Not connected to DeS unfortunately.
I was really fucking interested in 1313 before Disney shitcanned it for their dumbass looking jedi game.
Developers aren't just going to give away their intellectual property and even if they did a lot of it will be useless. For all these beta builds and shit most of the game content probably doesn't work well, if at all, and the build itself is probably only going to run in a specific dev environment nobody has a clue how to set up anymore. For anything involving consoles a lot of it requires devkits few have access to. Sometimes even very specific versions of devkits. There's also the problem of middleware often forbidding distribution as part of the license. They do share behind the scenes stuff, e.g. videos, screenshots, concept art, interviews, etc., etc. but they aren't going to just hand over dev builds. Also, ignore claims from devs that games are "90% complete". That's almost never true.
why not release it and let someone figure something out if they want to
Tell me more about tf2
didnt randy say he was trying to release the old duke nukem 2001, any update on that?
>That became Mario All-Stars didn't it?
Most likely. A lot of the unused graphics reveal that All-Stars was going to be direct ports of the NES titles, but with more detailed graphics.
