Been making my way through Valkyrie Profile 2 bit by bit, and been playing Seiken Densetsu 3 on my downtime at work. VP2 is alright, but SD3 is much better than 2 so I'm pretty happy with that one.
Persona 5 killed jrpgs. It make retards think shitty combat systems are acceptable.

Skies of Arcadia
Xenosaga Episode III
Ao no Kiseki
Rance X
Lunar SSSC
Dark Cloud 2
Terranigma
Xenoblade 2
Ys 4
Grandia 2
I decided to jump the bandwagon and play FFVII. Pretty cool, just got out of Costa Del Sol.
Been playing the first Raidou Kuzunoha game recently. It's combat is a bit sluggish, but I'm currently really liking it. I'll pick up the second one as soon as I'm finished
I can't think of single JRPG on the horizon that looks good. I think this is it for the genre bros.
I'm at the pyramid in my four job fiesta run of ffv.
>grandia 2
where is the damn switch remaster
Stop playing Squaresoft trash
Do you think that the switch is a perfect console for JRPG? I see a lot of people saying that the switch need more JRPGs. Do you agree with that?
The switch remaster looks awful user. I’ve abandoned hope.

JRPGs focusing on story and style with shit combat being popular is nothing new. See: FFVI
Looking forward to this one too.
Based and good taste
>The switch remaster looks awful
G1 looked good to me, are you talking about 2?
I don’t like Rance or Ys and I never bothered with Dark Cloud but the rest of your taste is top tier. What are your thoughts on Breath of Fire 3?
Playing persona 5 and don't get me wrong, I'm loving it but it's making me wish for a persona starring a bunch of adults in their 30s who failed their story quest 15 years ago and now are trying to make amends.
Could be good, I mean the persona games already covered the world of teenage angst well enough. Branching out into the neurosis of adults would allow them to do something new. Then again japanese devs would never make a game with adults as the main characters despite their country aging like fuck.
Theres always Catherine
this genre is so stacked right now, it's not even funny.
The thing is that FFVI doesnt have a good story either, all it has is style
Is Judgment a JRPG?
Grandia II's camera gives me a headache.
>It make retards think shitty combat systems are acceptable.
Final Fantasy did it far before SMT or Persona.
>it's making me wish for a persona starring a bunch of adults in their 30s who failed their story quest 15 years ago and now are trying to make amends.
P2:EP is more or less that.
Oh wait, I forgot Persona started with 3, how silly of me.
Trails in the sky 2 and waiting for coldsteel 3.
I recently completed FF15 and I might go through Episode Ignis after summer. I liked it overall and thought it was an interesting incarnation of the "Warriors of Light" concept.
Also, I plan to play Bravely Default soon and I have made it my personal goal to play through Chrono Cross before the end of the year.
My preteen desire to bone Kid and fill her with hot grey poupon will return no doubt.
Recc me some obscure 90s JRPGs

Let's be honest, it kinda did.

Waiting for Xenoblades to get ported to Switch before I start playing Xenoblades 2.
Looking forward to Takes of Arise.
Final Fantasy 6, Tales of Vesperia Breath of Fire 3.
>Waiting for Xenoblades to get ported to Switch
Im a huge fan of XB1 and think if you got a decent computer you should just emulate the XB1 with an HD texture pack. I doubt XB1 would get ported before X since that's what the producer wanted and XB1 got ported twice already.
If you're waiting to play the game in bed then I guess I understand but you should definitely just go with the Dolphin HD Texture pack otherwise
Looking forward to Atelier Ryza and FF8 Remaster
Xenoblade X probably won't get ported because the director said X is such a huge game and Monolith would rather focus their attention on newer games.
No, you.
>"Well, the future at present is unclear. Personally speaking, I'd love to play the game on the Switch, but it would be really difficult to make it."

legend of legacy
My friend finally forced me to try Ys out by lending me his copy of VIII, and holy fuck am I having a blast. I wish I had tried it out way earlier, I can’t remember the last time I played a game that was such a perfect mixture of comfy and exciting. Also, unlike most JRPGs, this works in very short bursts as well. If I can only play for 10 minutes, I feel like I can actually do at least something.
I’m about 10 hours in, so I’m going to barrel through and get him his copy back, but where should I go from there? I finally hacked my Vita, so I’ll just turn it into a Ys machine for now (I’ve already seen that The Vita/PSP versions aren’t necessarily the best way to go, don’t care), but should I just start from the beginning? Go backwards? I actually really like the party system, so I’m kind of bummed that it’s only in VIII, but I think I can live with that.
Party system is in Seven, Celceta but less refined. It'll be in Ys IX as well. Honestly you can go in any order you want EXCEPT you'll be missing a lot of story context if you play Origin before I&II.
I've been playing through Romancing SaGa 2. I just had a character die off from LP loss for the first time a few minutes ago, after a long battle against the termite queen. Characters seem to be pretty disposable, though, so no big deal.
Dream Master on the NES. It's a game where all of your resources are limited, and grinding isn't an option. Every enemy you defeat is gone permanently.
I started Rogue Galaxy recently, it's pretty fun.
I need more non-turn based non-Tales JRPG suggestions. Preferably PS2
I mean, how important is story for this series? Again, I’m only early on in VIII, but it seemed to have dove right into the action and exploration. It’s a nice change of pace, considering the only reason I caved in to my friend is because I’m really fucking burned out on Sky/Cold Steel right now
I actually miss you faggots and all the shitposting
There's some overarching plot but most of it's in the background, it only starts to come together after you play a few different games. If you don't mind missing the references playing Origin first is fine, but all the call forwards to I&II are really neat in my opinion. There are a lot of gameplay references in addition to story.
>I mean, how important is story for this series?
Not at all.
Ys 8 is the most story-heavy.
In the series, the story's still there, and there's references to the stories of other games and some reoccuring characters and a chronology, but the focus of Ys games have always been the gameplay. For the development process of Ys games, the story is the last thing Falcom does.
What are peoples general consensus on Radiant Historia? I liked it at first, but felt it really dragged on towards the middle and late game.
post team
I played the demo, thought it was good but had enough of my fill, didn't get the full game
Not important at all
The story is written after the gameplay and game areas and bosses and enemies are already made
You can play any Ys game out of order.
Only Ys 1 and 2 are directly connected and expected to be played together.
I've played Koudelka this year and I have a few things to say about it:
1. If all you are interested in is gameplay, then do not play this game.
2. If you are really itching to play a JRPG with an un-JRPG like story, then by all means PLAY THIS GAME NOW. It's a really unique JRPG in this regard, and if you made some small tweaks here and there this game could easily pass off for a Japanese survival horror like Resident Evil. But the game, as an RPG, sucks massive ass.
Working on Shadow Hearts and DQ6
Some of my favorites are FF4,7,8, P5, DQ5, Panzer Dragoon Saga, Chrono Trigger Pokemon GSC, and it’s looking like Shadow Hearts will join them.
do the baten kaitos games emulate well? deciding if I should play them via my wii or emulate on dolphin
I'm sad the only good FF stories to have been told since X has been XIV. XIV has restored my faith in the series but I sure as hell won't be a day one purchase anymore like I had been since the SNES.
Trails on the other hand is the new king. Best JRPG series ever and anyone who disagrees is objectively wrong. The only people I've seen disagree have been basement dwelling goon trannies who have a problem with Olivier and Rean.
You don't want to be in the same camp as pedophile tranny tankies do you?
I just played Koudelka and it fucking sucks ass, I’m just lucky I’m enjoying Shadow Hearts so much. Even the story I thought wasn’t good in Koudelka.
I'm playing Dragon Quest VII at the moment. I know I might die of old age before I beat it.
Might as well ask here.
I'm looking on playing a mainline Final Fantasy game.
I've only plays bits of 4 and 7. I "finished" 15. And I tried bits of 13 but I couldnt get hooked. I loved XIV but I'm a dirty cutscene skipper and will wait until ng+ to redo everything again. Starting out tactics but the mobile port is garbage but I paid money for it so I might as well keep going.
Played tactics advance and its sequel and really liked it as well asmost of the Crystal Chronicles except I haven't played the first one. Which one should I play that's not too archaic and not too grind heavy. Maybe something straight forward with not too many side quests as I want to not spend too much time for a taste of my first Final Fantasy game.
Play 4,6 or 7 as a good starter
>I'm sad the only good FF stories to have been told since X has been XIV
try since the first game, XIV is the only good story in terms of mainline FF
>Trails on the other hand is the new king. Best JRPG series ever and anyone who disagrees is objectively wrong
how can it be the best whey the exploration/area design is terrible, the combat is very basic and barely changes, and the story moves at a snail's pace
One of my friends absolutely loves it, she calls it a modern chrono trigger.
6, 9, and 14 are the best ones.
definitely 2
>xiv
>good
When did this meme start? Being an mmo was the start of darkness for FF
>What JRPGs are you playing?
SNES FF VI with the Ted Woolsey Uncensored patch
Persona IV (pretty much on hold right now)
>What JRPGs are you looking forward to?
The only one I can think of at the moment is FFVIIR
>What are your favourite JRPGs?
FFXII, Tales of Symphonia, FF V, Fire Emblem 7, Mario and Luigi Superstar Saga, Paper Mario TTYD
In addition to what said (4, 6, and 7 are all good), if you're fond of mechanical complexity, try 5. It's nice for having both an incredibly straightforward story and a really cool class system.
Replaying DDS2 hard mode, going to try a STR build.
What's the most underrated hidden gem that's out there?
14 has the best combat, enemy design, worldbuilding, challenge and story of any FF game. the only things the main games do better prior to XI is the music because uematsu is a legend, but soken is no slouch and his tracks are amazing too
Dark Cloud 2
Steambot Chronicles
My experience was similar. I still enjoyed the game overall, though. It has fairly good combat mechanics, and I thought Stocke was a good protagonist.
Neat. Then I’ll just wing it and bounce around playing the ones that work best on my shita. I also heard that VIII is by far the longest in the series, clocking in at around 50 hours. How long can I expect the other games to be?
play medabots
Falls on the middle then picks up again on late game.
It was good tho
Furthermore, for an updated version of FFV, play Bravely Default and SHATTER THE FUCKING CRYSTAL. IT'S NOT WORTH THE TEDIUM TO DO OTHERWISE
How does it have a good story? Mmos almost always have a bad story. Also $15 a month in addition to the game’s cost is difficult to justify.
But Rean really is just a shitty LN MC. Sen aside, Trails is fantastic.
Sorry for asking so many questions, it's just there's so many choices. Which one would be the "shortest" one?
I wasn't too big a fan of 4 when I played it and 7 seems a bit too large in scale.
I'll try out 6 though. Mind selling a bit more on it?
I was looking at 3 and was wondering if it's okay to play as well. (Honestly only in it for crystal tower + eternal wind)
I was thinking of trying 8 because the aesthetics just speak to me with also timey limey stuff.
As well as 9 but I don't know anything about it either.
I don't know too much about 5, mind giving me a little bit more info on how the class system works?
Really? I heard the story was interesting but the characters were bland and the system to level up is a pain in the ass.
>how does it have a good story
the main story quests are structured like a general jRPG main game
>Also $15 a month in addition to the game’s cost is difficult to justify.
there's a fuck load of content and you can sub off without getting left behind
My nigga. Loved this fucking game as a kid. I tried replaying it a few years ago and found it much more brutally difficult than I remember. I don't know how I got so far as a kid.
All 3 Shadow Hearts games, skip Koudelka, it’s trash.
get with the times grandpa, FFXIV saved FF and yoshida is the only lead with a brain in charge of major projects at square
6 is most people’s favorite for old style FF but it’s my least favorite SNES one, still great but I prefer 4 and 5. It has a steampunk magic aesthetic to it. 3 isn’t bad but it’s a worse 5 really. I love 8 but I wouldn’t start with it because it’s so weird. 9 is the closest to the old games of the newer ones.
Shadow Hearts are all turn based still
>Characters are bland
Depends on how much you like waifus, I guess. There's nothing incredible but they're serviceable and pretty much all likeable.
>the system to level up is a pain in the ass.
Can you be more specific? It's a standard JRPG leveling system, pretty much directly equivalent to FFV's.
>$15 a month
Keep paying constantly for your entry level rpg.
On the other version, I have, still to this day, never been able to beat this boss. And he's the first main boss of the game.....
That's less than you spend in a day on bathwater, poorfag.
>I don't know too much about 5, mind giving me a little bit more info on how the class system works?
You only have four characters, that is, you never switch your party around. Instead, you can assign any character to any class at any time (outside battle). Each class also has passive benefits (thieves make you immune to back attacks, let you dash, and reveal secret passages; geomancers make you immune to damaging floor tiles and warn you about holes in the ground), that you get for having at least one person of that class. When characters level up classes, they gain abilities associated with that class, and you can use abilities gained this way on any other class--that is, if you learn Steal from thief, and you make a character a white mage, you can also give them the Steal command.
There are also two special classes: "bare" (also called freelancer) has no abilities, but lets you use any two abilities you've learned, and also gains the passives of EVERY class that you've mastered; and mime, which lets you use three abilities from other classes, and its fourth command is mimic (redo the last action another of your characters did).
I will lmao
It's amazing
>entry level rpg.
do you know what series you're talking about?
Well, you should still play them anyway.
I honestly wish they give the team more money. The presentation sometimes looks like ass. Cutscenes in ShB look better but it's still nothing compared to 1.x cutscenes (here we go again with 1.x is trash).
The game almost has enough jank to be a PS2 game...
A really good PS2 game but a PS2 game.
it's 13 bucks actually and I will, thanks
yeah it kind of sucks but whatever, glad they got yoshida on the next FF though
JRPGs are probably one of my favourite genres. I'm more inclined to choose one that has action over turn based since I prefer to have full control over movement. I wish I could remember the stories to the more often, but for whatever reason they just don't stick.
At the moment I am playing Ni No Kuni II. I'm really glad that took a more action oriented approach with the battle system this time around. So far everything seems to be going well; really enjoying the atmosphere, characters, environments and OST. The only thing I'm not too keen about are the skirmish battles. They don't do anything for me.
I'm really looking forward to playing Dragon Quest XI S and Tales of Arise. I think those two are my most anticipated titles to be released.
My favourite RPG is Tales of Legendia. I love this game to death. There is just something so unique and charming about the whole adventure. I'm well aware of its shortcomings and issues, regardless, it's still a masterpiece to me. I also really love Threads of Fate (still waiting for a sequel) Dragon Quest I (gbc), Quest 64 and Kingdom Hearts to name a few.
FF is for casuals.
exactly. 14 has the hardest content in the series though, nothing else comes close to the savage/ex content aside from XI stuff
What's your favorite mediocre JRPG bros?
Nostalgia on the DS was extremely average and I loved every minute of it. Nice artwork, decent soundtrack, party combat similar to FFX, airship combat somewhat similar to Skies of Arcadia. It lived up to it's name and felt like a bunch of nostalgic games in one.
Never played a single Tales game. I know Symphonia is what I should start with but what else is good for noobs?
Currently playing Phantasy Star 3.
Not really looking forward to any JRPGs save for the FFVIII re-release. HG101's recent retrospective of the Wild ARMs series makes me really, really want to replay the whole series though.
Favourite JRPGS include:
Legend of Legaia
Wild ARMs 2
Wild ARMs 3
Star Ocean: The Second Story
Valkyrie Profile
Final Fantasy VIII
Final Fantasy VI
Vanguard Bandits
Lunar 2: Eternal Blue
Chrono Cross
PSX was the golden age of JRPGs for me
Did Tales of Rebirth ever get a fantranslation or do we have to wait for an HD remake for any chance of playing it in English?
probably golden sun dark dawn. It was the weakest in the series but i didn't think it was as bad as a lot people think
Who is girl on far right?
symphonia-abyss-vesperia is the golden trio. Don't bother with the rest
How the fuck do I get into these larger series like Tales or Ys. Also, do I want to?
Symphonia is pretty universally loved, as is Vesperia. Abyss is fairly popular too and just as good. Personally I didn't mind Graces f but I know it gets shit on a lot.
But honestly just pick any of them. If you've played one Tales game you've played them all
Are you guys liking PS3? I had to just skip it because of the godawful sound effects and battle theme. 4 was amazing though and 3 has nothing to do with it.
Wild Arms is kino. 4 gets a lot of hate for being so different, but I had a good time with it and 5. 2 is the pinnacle of the series.
Vesperia or Abyss are good entries along with Symphonia.
never finished unfortunately.
not sure if it's considered mediocre, never really hear anyone talk about it, but FF 4 heroes of light is such a charming and lovely rpg.
maybe legendia, maybe.
yes to both. stay away from the newer tales personally.
>A remake of an 20 year old game
Admittedly, this isn't as bad as the
>$60 cut content release for waifufags
and the DragonBall game will be bad but yeah 2020 looks good.
I limited it down to
3, 5, 6, 9. I'm surprised nobody recommended 10 or 12.
Out of these 4, which would be the best to play first so playing the others don't feel too much of a slog.
I prefer 5 but 6 is better for a newcomer. Nobody recommended 10 because it’s super linear and 12 just isn’t very good.
There was a pretty significant tonal shift after 9
People don't talk about 4 Heroes much because it's actually challenging at times and FF fans need everything to be piss-easy.
I’d argue after 10, 11 is where the series changed for good.
Not really enjoying the gameplay much but I like the aesthetics of it. Feels like "early Genesis title: the RPG". It's just so strange. It looks like you're fighting rejected Altered Beast graphics half the time.
Did you play 2? I actually skipped 2 too due to the immense amount of grinding. Only played 1 and 4 but I enjoyed those.
Right now I'm playing Octopath Traveler and enjoying it very much. Combat is fun and I love how the game doesn't care if you just completely break characters. For instance, I have lvl~50 Cyrus as my Sorcerer and he can hit any element 3 times on all enemies free because he gets 25-30sp back every turn and uses save sp passive skill so the most powerful attacks only cost 15sp. It does nonsense damage and doesn't cost a thing.
After I finish it I'm gonna give Lost Sphear a shot, and then maybe replay Okami HD after. I'm looking forward to Oninaki, Atelier Ryza, and FF7R.
it definitely has some difficulty masked behind its cute storybook graphics. i think that's what i liked about it the most was that it wasn't just a walk in the park. love the battle theme though.
You should play 5 above 3. 6 is stylish and mechanically straightforward, while 5 is hokey and fun, but mechanically deep. I'd probably caution against 9, because it was a sort of throwback game (after the controversial reception of 8), so it's probably not a great starting game. Of course, I can't remember if you were saying you liked 14, which (from what I hear) is almost entirely throwback.
>What JRPGs are you playing?
Baten Kaitos
>What JRPGs are you looking forward to?
FF VIIR and Cyber Sleuth re-release on PC
>What are your favourite JRPGs?
Chrono Chross, Koudelka, Xenosaga trilogy, Shadow Hearts trilogy, Digital Devil Saga 1 and 2, Kingdom Hearts 2, FF6/8/10/12, Vagrant story, Tales of Graces F, Parasite Eve, FF tactic, Lunar 2, Grandia 1.
I could keep going all day, too many.
Is Legend of Dragoon an actual good game, or do I just have nostalgia goggles on? I got to the third disc and remember it being quite fun aside from the annoying 32 item limit.
It's the only game in the series I recommend avoiding. The developers had a bunch of great, innovative ideas for the game, but every single one of them was implemented poorly.
This is the best turn based current gen JRPG game. Other games may beat it in categories but as a complete package, DQ11 is great.
I loved 14. Although yeah the throwbacks didn't really get to me so when my friends yelling OH MY FUCKING GOD. I'm pretty much ???
>koudelka
What pot are you smoking? I just finished it and thought it was awful. Shadow Hearts is kino though
You've just got shit taste, mate.
When does 11 actually pick up? Because it's pretty dull so far.
i played it at release and then replayed it in 2009 and it was a blast both times.
Notably, 5 has some actually quite difficult or technical boss fights. You can trivialize them by knowing a lot about the game (for example, L5Doom bypasses death immunity--you can even L5Doom the last boss, if you can manipulate his levels correctly), but shit like Liquid Flame, Archaeoavis, Atomos, the four crystals, and Exdeath (in his castle) are vicious.
Opinions on that game vary like crazy. I really like it though. I think if they had created a sequel they could have really perfected what they were going for with the first game.
>graces f
i know people shit on this game because (muh friendship) but god damn the battle system is so fucking fun.
For what it's worth, XII is my favorite game in the series and the remaster on PS4/PC is fantastic. It's not a good introduction to the series as it's a significant departure from everything that came before it (except FFXI, which it was heavily influenced by). The nice thing is that you can treat it as a standalone game and not even think of it as a FF game.
it would’ve been fine if it had actual puzzles and any real item conservation. The game was ridiculously easy with constant level ups until the final boss which can heal itself for 5000+ health and is resistant to magic with magic being overpowered. Also the story was nonsense.
I know it's weird but FFXIV Shadowbringers was a really damn good JRPG, way better than any of the recent FF games. The story was fucking amazing, reminded me to older FF games.
If you aren't feeling the vibe, maybe it isn't for you. it's not a bad thing but the whole story feels very 80s. I've enjoyed it the whole ride through.
What part are you on? I'd say once you get Sylvando is when the game starts getting exciting.
Just got Sylvando, in the casino town right now. I enjoyed the opening segments but then it's been boring me since. I usually love the DQ games so I'm not sure what it's not vibing with me. Probably will just shelve it and play something else until I'm in the mood for 11 again
It definitely picks up from there I would say. It's mostly fun hijinks on part 1.
Part 2 though....
question, when you shelve a jrpg do you tend to remember the story when you pick it back up? or do you read up on it to the point that you are? or do you not care?
WA2 is one of my favorite games ever. It's so fucking good. A remake that did nothing but have better models, add more battle animations, sound effects and voice acting would be heavenly.
Unless I haven't touched in like 2 years I remember it pretty well.
Knight/time/ninja/dancer. I just got three of the legendary weapons. It's been pretty easy so far, only things that made me sweat were the four crystal boss and the exdeath at the end of world 2
do you play many games?
I used to think the same way and then they announced a new Wild Arms game for phones and now I just want them to leave the franchise alone and never touch it again.
>where is the damn switch remaster
Probably being held up by Grandia 1 since they're releasing them together. 2 is good to go since it was done years ago. Unfortunately at E3 the demo they had playable had the same audio bug as the Grandia 1 undub patch someone made - battle voices still being in English. They're probably bastardizing the undub patch and half-assing the port in general since it's a different group than did 2's remaster.
I hope I'm wrong and it's decent release.
Yes
I just got one of those chinese cartridges for GBA with many games, so now Im playing Breath of fire 2 and Golden sun
I just bought a new N3DS so recommend me stuff... hidden gems and games with non chibi graphs are especially wellcome
I was at TGS the first time I saw it. My heart sank. Like I said, I just want the exact same game but with new models and sounds. I don't trust them to write anything good, especially not the original writer.
okay thanks.
Started Xenogears last night and about 6 hours in, about to save Bart's sister.
Apparently this game is around 80 hours long from what I've heard? The mechs are cool though and Grahf is based.
Okay going to try out 5. What's the best way to play it on the phone? Gba emulator?
>especially not the original writer.
Don't shit on her, she's not involved in the mobile game. All of the original staff has moved on. Original writer does an anime called Symphogear right now which is actually pretty awesome and has a ton of Wild Arms references and callbacks.
GBA or SNES (emulator)
I know. I'm referring to Kaneko.
>pretty awesome
Season 1 was good because all of its good stuff was basically watered down WA2 references. G was a mess, and GX was beyond terrible and the point I realized I never wanted Kaneko to touch WA again.
Been playing DQXI.
It's very fun, a lot more than DQVII's remake or DQIX at least. I hate the voice acting and should've waited for a patch, there's too little tracks, and I kinda hate the party. But it's been a great experience, it really feels like an old school JRPG, but in HD graphics (which obviously it would, since the game is literally playable in a 16 bit version).
>What JRPGs are you playing?
Labyrinth of Refrain: Coven of Dusk. I'm almost finished, or at least as finished as you can be with a NIS game. I'm not going to min-max my stats because I don't have time for that kind of autism.
>What JRPGs are you looking forward to?
Fire Emblem: Three Houses, Code Vein, Dragon Quest XI, and Digimon: Cyber Sleuth.
>What are your favourite JRPGs?
Too many to list, but Stella Glow ranks high up there for me. It's not the best JRPG, it's not the worst JRPG, but something about it really clicked with me. Etrian Odyssey too, but that's a given since I'm a DRPGfag.
Last JRPG I beat was getting the Persona 5 Platinum. Which is like beating the game because the last trophy I needed couldn't be done until I kicked Shido's ass
>What JRPGs are you playing?
installing Valkyria Chronicles 4
>What JRPGs are you looking forward to?
trails of cold steel 3/4
Someone recommend me something, any system. My 3 all time favorite JRPGs are Grandia 1 and 2, Dark Cloud 1 and 2, and Wild Arms 2 and 3
Those are all great games, but it would help us if you tell us what you have and haven't played and what you're in the mood for.
Okage and Threads of Fate.
I'm in the mood for literally anything. And I've played more rpgs than I can list.
I saw Okage is like $3 on PSN right now. Might grab that.
>What JRPGs are you playing?
Shadow Hearts: Covenant. Just made it to disc 2. This music is so incredible. And mother fucking Kenji Ito did one of the boss battle themes????
>JRPGs are you looking forward to? Trials of Mana for sure. Persona 5 Royale.
>What are your favorite JRPGs? Too many to list. Star Ocean 2, Parasite Eve, Valkyrie Profile, Breath of Fire 2, Secret of Mana, Tales of Vesperia, Wild Arms, Grandia Xtreme, FF6, the list goes on and on
Playing desu2 then nocturne
There are so many JRPGs in my backlog but I never make time to play them. feelsbadman.
>What JRPGs are you playing?
Terranigma, and FFXIV if that counts
>What JRPGs are you looking forward to?
The next xenoblade/monolith soft's new IP, SMTV, Ys IX
>what are your favorite jRPGs?
xenogears/xenoblade series, souls series, mother 3, paper mario 64, chrono trigger, SMT nocturne
>FFXIV
I've seen a lot of good reactions to that, is it worth getting into at this point? It seems like a huge timesink, and an expensive one at the same time. Not to mention I know I'd have to play alone. But ShB seems to be getting a lot of hype.
Baten Kaitos.
Legit question; What makes a good JRPG? What do you like in them?
if you have a lot of free time sure, I consider it a top 3 FF game. The beginning is an absolute slog though that was only alleviated since I played with an IRL friend. If you don't have friends who play it maybe skip out. There's a free trial till level 35 though the really good content doesn't start till 50
comprehensiveness, an attempt to be good in all categories aside from budget or graphics which I don't care about
FFXIV is right now among my favorite FF games, it's a lot of story tho. ARR is very slow but once you get near to HW it gets really good, and the latest expansion is the best one so far story wise.
It was totally worth it for me.
They're generally about immersion in a fictional world, with more of a focus on world-building than other genres usually bother with. If we're talking JRPG versus WRPG, I suppose the difference is that JRPGs tend to focus more on the story-on-rails, which leads to more thematic cohesion, while WRPGs tend to focus more on player choice, so then the story has to make allowances for choice.
>What JRPGs are you playing?
Nothing atm. Gonna start FFV soon.
>What JRPGs are you looking forward to?
I just want an official Crossbell duology release and Xenoblade X2
>What are your favourite JRPGs?
Xenoblade series, SMT, Trails
About to enter the final dungeon of Tales of Vesperia. Holy shit, act 3 really does go downhill. The whole save the world from giant death squids thing is way less interesting than the more grounded political story they were telling in the first 2 acts. Game is still really good tho, even if it does have some glaring issues.
Playing Bravely Default right now, loving it despite never touching a FF game in my life.
I'm at the point right before you fight the water temple boss. Is it bad that Agnes has been a white mage only since recruitment? I've been switching up the rest of my party pretty often but I really can't find a good role for Agnes without shafting someone else in my party to be the dedicated healbitch. Also is the Red Mage chad worth fighting right now or is it better to come back later because of how strong he is?
Also, Airy a cute, wish she got more screentime.
I think Vesperia's biggest strength is its characters and how they interact with each other. The overarching plot isn't really anything to write home about. I really wish there was more focus on Yuri and Flynn's relationship, it's definitely the most interesting part of the game.
>I just want an official Crossbell duology release
>2019
>Playing jrpgs but not learning j
But why?
My problem is that I enjoy replays more than playing new games almost universally.
What should I play next until Fire Emblem comes out? FFVII, Dragon Quest XI, or something that isn't a long ass JRPG?
Final dungeon is a real bore, personally. I would read a guide if you want to save an hour or so of wasted time. Thankfully Act 3 isn't that long unless you count the abundant amount of side quests. I just finished the fake gald labyrinth... dear god what a fucking chore. I had the worst luck ever. Thankfully the cameo boss fight made everything worth it in the end.
probably should watch First Strike if you want to see Flynn and Yuri's relationship fleshed out.
I mean p3 is basically that, except starring the children of the failing team, the few surviving experimental orphans, and a door.
You're fine with her being heal slut for now. near the endgame you might want more of your characters to have multiple classes leveled so you can jew the game mechanics but it's not necessary at all. Also Enjoy the scene when Airy catches Agnes polishing her pearl

>graffiti kingdom finally gets a sequel
>it's mobile shit
FUCK YOU TAITO!
I don't feel like it.
I actually just watched First Strike the other day. It was a fun movie, but they really messed with Yuri and Flynn's characterizations. Why were they so antagonistic towards each other for the first half? The game said they were childhood friends who shared everything, almost like brothers. In the movie, they seemed to genuinely hate each other until they came to an understanding like halfway through.
I'm not far enough into Lost Odyssey to form an opinion yet, but music is fucking godly.
I think they were childhood friends but even at young ages they both still want different things especially when it came to becoming a knight and how things should be done.
Dark Souls
Elden Ring
Dark Souls
I looked at a guide to see what kind of postgame content there is, and it looks like there's a fuck ton. The arena alone looks like it'd take 10 hours to complete, not counting all the grinding you'd have to do to be able to win.
>no demon's souls
pleb
ブスは失せろ
the arena is something you might want to do after you get all the fells arms and fight duke again for his last form for the powers to unlock. the arena on hard+ difficulties is literally insane.
I'm a few hours into TitS SC. I'm pretty sure it's not a good sign that I'm getting sick of side quests.
How hard is Duke's last form? Is it doable without grinding extra to prepare? I have all the fell arms except one so far.
you should be missing two? the layers of figment dungeon has patty and flynns i believe. the third from is quite the nuisance. he's faster, hits like a truck and goes into overlimit quite a bit.
Then don't so them

Ys IX and Persona 5 Royal, I suppose. I doubt the former is coming out in English any time soon, though.

Dragon Quest XI S, Trials of Mana, Persona 5 Royal
>What are your favourite JRPGs?
Xenoblade, Fire Emblem 7, Pokemon FireRed,
I have Rokusho version and it was my first game with random encounters outside of pokemon's grass. I wasn't a fan of it back then but I should really attempt to play it again sometime.
I love it, but I don't like the story additions of the 3DS port
Just don't start as Lute.
Why would you possibly want that?
You think you want that, but you don't.

Just on the 100 floor FoP it is also one of my favorites JRPGs.
Have the Sword Art games next to play.

Xenosaga 1-3
FF7 and 9
Trails in the sky/Ao/Zero

I really wish they'd realease P4G on something other than the Vita already. It's fucking great, but I can't be assed to play on it, especially since it has no dual audio. I hope P5R can come near it in terms of how great it was as an improvement, but I'm scared it'll just be another P3FES.

I'm playing DQ IV on the DS right now, alternating between that and SMT IV. Both are pretty good. My favorite JRPG is Xenoblade Chronicles X
>SMT IV
Be sure to play Apocalypse too, also go for the Neutral Ending. Those two games are very underrated overall, they are some of my favorites.
I could never get into DQ4 because I hated the switching characters thing at the start.
Playing SMT4 myself right now and I'm digging it. Would prefer to be playing on something other than a tiny 3DS though. Also demon recruiting is a pain in the ass compares to any other SMT I've played. They have way more demands and shit compared to the others.
>demon recruiting is a pain in the ass compares to any other SMT I've played. They have way more demands and shit compared to the others.
Have you played mainline games before? IV seemed pretty easy compared to SJ or Nocturne.
Apocalypse is on my list. Go for the neutral ending in IV or Apocalypse? I already went to the barracks to side with Walter so it might be too late
>what JRPGs are you playing?
I'm thinking of getting Tales of Vesperia. Is it good?
>what JRPGs are you looking forward to?
It seems like there's no big ones coming out.
>What are your favorite JRPGs?
Chrono Cross, Threads of Fate, Romancing Saga 2, Breath of Fire 3.
In IV. For some reason, they decided to have the Neutral Ending go a lot further than the other two, like they were fucking you over if you went either side. Apocalypse stems from this route too.
just started this
really enjoying it so far
hows xenosaga?
>how's xenosaga
really heavy focus on worldbuilding, everything else is worse
Hope you like visual novels.
This, go for neutral so you can fuck the monkey.
15 hrs in, definitely the most text heavy game i have played
heard disc 2 is basically just text
is the last remnant remastered any good?
>fucking a fujoshi monkey
I've been trying to get into Tokyo Xanadu eX+. I've wanted very much to also get into fire emblem. I'm nearly 32, and for whatever reason the series just always eluded me, which is a shame because I've bought several of them, always saying I'd play them but just never getting around to it. I'm that kind of gamer and I'm ashamed of it.

Man what the fuck did they do with the translation for this game
Thanks, anonbros. Gonna check these out.
Fuck yeah, Illusion of Gaia was the shit.
You're really missing out if you don't play IV. I'm one of the (I feel like) few who really enjoyed the DS remaster with the 3D graphics and voice acting. It was some good shit, and I enjoyed After Years.
>Currently playing Shadow Hearts Covenant after Koudelka and Shadow Hearts 1.
Its kinda average and a little too long for its own good. A little saturay morning cartoony in the beggining with the bumbling villians and putty patrol tier villains
Grandia 2 good shit
idk
FF7 and Xenogears
rare(but not MMO tier rare)/powerful things to collect and an encyclopedia
I'm a simple person, and JRPGs give me a way to hoard without taking up space
>What JRPGs are you playing?
Vesperia, almost finished with Octopath but now I've hit that end game grind wall for the final boss true ending, and I don't feel like grinding it so I might just set it aside.
>What JRPGs are you looking forward to?
None currently. The genre as a whole is in a shitty place right now. Octopath was great, and DQ tends to remain consistently good, but Square went down the shitter years ago in terms of most everything else. All we really get nowadays is Nepshit or moeshit RPG's. I just want a nice, fantasy RPG.
>What are your favourite JRPGs?
Chrono Trigger, FF4, FF6, FF9.
>I’m about 10 hours in, so I’m going to barrel through and get him his copy back
you're in for a good time, i loved that game right up to the end
solid game mechanics, whether it is team building, character customization, monster catching or map exploration
I hate those that rely on spectacle and long dialogues too much and forget that the player is supposed to have fun just fooling around.
Sounds like you're just a Squarebaby.
A solid, turn based battle system with good tactical options. If it's not turn based, it can fuck off. Thats what makes a JRPG for me, and they do it better than anyone else. Ironically, I fucking hate most SMT games because while they provide that, they also go out of their way to be personality-less, borderline storyless, absolute grind fests with shit mechanics like bosses absolutely cheating their asses off. If you took SMT's battle system and simply attached a decent story to it, and cut back on the fucking grind a few notches and included actual characters, it'd be great.
Persona attempts this, but then fucks everything up with that "GO TO BED NOW IT'S A SCHOOL SIM LOL" bullshit.
what's your highest leveled party member?
I did zero grinding and beat the guy on my second attempt. Strategy > levels
>this post
have you considered digital devil saga?
They were the golden standard during the NES to PS1 era. They fell the fuck apart during the PS2 days. There were plenty of other good JRPG's, sure, but no one was as consistent as them during that stretch of time. Plus the US didn't exactly get too many other JRPG's anyway, or the ones we did get weren't too great. You don't see people hailing Robotrek as a pinnacle of JRPG's, for example.
Mid 60's on average. Maybe I just fucked up my party allocation. I didn't really do any guides for this, just blind play, so I probably did miss some shit. If you've got an ideal setup, I'm all ears.
I played that, yes. It was good. Still a bit grindy. But good. But they only made two of them. And they also aren't devoid of the bosses cheating with shit like free press turn moves just because.
>having to grind
>saying the bosses cheat
I don't think you want a good system, I think you're just bitching. The only enemy that "cheats" in DDS is the superboss demi-fiend
>What JRPGs are you playing?
Hunting a Deathsaur in The Legend of Legacy.
Have to start PQ2 and RHPC, as well as 2 EO games.
>What JRPGs are you looking forward to?
Pretty much just The Alliance Alive HD. Loved the one on 3DS, it's one of my favorite 3DS games. Formerly had some tentative hope for Pokemon before the shit at E3 happened.
>What are your favourite JRPGs?
The Alliance Alive, Shining Force, EO2U, The Legend of Legacy
If Devil Survivor 2 Record Breaker counts, I also loved that.
fuck hiro I can't upload images

won with those guys. The important thing is being efficient, so
>bring sorcerer to phase 1 backed by cleric divine
>warmaster to phase 2, his permanent attack buff can't be dispelled
>at least one apothecary is a godsend, with saving grace on everyone you're almost unkillable
>if unsure, bring a tank to phase 2 with cover and the dancer's auto revive passive
>run in circles until you get move "Y" that stops a boss from ass raping you like Matador in Nocturne
>you're just bitching
And yeah, superbosses pulling bullshit is still bullshit. It's not Ozma tier "lol so randum" but it's still fucking stupid and theres no reason to not point it out. Doubly stupid because to survive Demi-Fiend you generally need to bring the dude with shit status resist and hope he gets affected every time or you just get put into auto-lose states.
just use basic buffs/nerfs and respond to boss gimmicks, it's that easy.
Yes, they had lots of great games 20 years ago and they were popular in the west. If that's still the measuring stick you use, you're a Squarebaby.
>guys, wouldn't it be cool if none of the original developers remade Xenogears in addition being that remakes have never been good? please god PLEASE remake Xenogears my favorite game
The measuring stick you use should always be the best time, because thats what people should be trying to surpass. What, do you measure from the shittiest time a genre ever had?
SNES to PS1 era was objectively the JRPG golden age, PS1 especially since we saw a bunch of great RPG's come over then that we never would've gotten otherwise, and this paved the way for some good PS2 ones as well. But the entire genre shit the bed soon after.
>remake by modern SE without monolithsoft's crew
I would sacrifice virgins to NOT make this happen
Running around in circles isn't going to do anywhere near as much as fusing an appropriate team is. Matador should be exactly up your alley if you really want what you say you want, you just need to not be so quick to fall back on grinding when something beats you.
I sure hope you like your game being split into 17 parts released at one every 8 years. You might even make it out of those fucking sewers by the time you're 90.
Have you even played a single Falcom game?
Matador is exactly the opposite of what I want. He is retardedly difficult without one skill you have to grind for at that point in the game to get, and if you have that skill, he's instantly piss baby easy. He's the perfect example of how to not design an engaging fight or how to balance your fucking game in the first place.
Falcom fags are the most annoying trash in those threads thinking their shitty games are any good
Several. Not a fan of any of them really.
I don't recall grinding for sukukaja or rakukaja
hey now Ys is cool. Trails is kusoge though
>Have games on me backlog
>Don't want to play them because they're finite and the future just feels like it's getting worse
It's imossible to predict a game from spoilers or a general premise but I feel like just knowing the main characters and names of these games it feels like I'm browsing a blockbuster store in purgatory which never restocks. I feel so trapped I might have to just go finish Vagrant story despite knowing the ending.
Also what this dude said
I often get stuck on my backlog with games close to the end, because I don't want them to end. Most game endings are pretty shit, or it leaves me with the feeling that I now have nothing else to do because this game is done.
I can assure you your memories of the game are clouded by whatever sparked your distaste of it. Or you spent the entire beginning of the game running from battles, one of the two.
falcomfags told me to play the trails in the sky series if i needed an experience that could match xenogears
they weren't being ironic
I played it for the same reason. I finished SC and realized I was bamboozled hard. Fuck anyone who thinks the trails plot even comes close to gears
So it's a terrible fucking game with bad translation and endless walls of text that had no funding to the point it got turned into a VN halfway through? Holy fuck.
You didn't enjoy the "world building"?
The amount of text in Trails makes Xenogears look like DQ1
>tfw i literally created the disc 2 is a VN narrative
I gave up on Covenant after i realized that the real MC is the bland emo guy
I mean, you didn't. Because it practically is. It's Fei (and others) sitting in chairs monologuing, then maybe a dungeon, then right back to the chair, or maybe a crucifixion for shits and giggles. And then eventually you get back to the map but theres fuck all to do on it but go to an optional dungeon and the final dungeon.
trails has more worldbuilding than xenogears, not better. that's the thing trailsfags won't tell you
Peak shit taste.
Which ones?

i mean, i did, but who cares since i could have stopped playing 90% of the way into the game before stopping at the end of disc 1 and it would still be the best jrpg
KH is not a JRPG
You're not a JRPG.
yes it is, so are the souls games
>it's an RPG
>made in Japan
>Japan starts with a J
>RPG, as in role playing game
>JRPG
>but it's not a JRPG because I said it's not based on some asinine criteria
Fuck you.
I recently finished FFXV, which made me wanna go back to any of the previous FF, so I got back into XII. Feels really nice, especially since I really like Ivalice.
Only problems I have with it are that despite not really avoiding battles I'm somewhat under-leveled and starved for money. Also I don't think there's a good way to figure out what level the monster of a hunt is going to be at aside from going to the monster or checking a guide, right?
>-Monogatari is good, really guys :^)
Just fucking play Yschad
Playing Bloodstained right now. It's a blast.
They dont even have any RPG elements you faggots, its like saying DMC is JRPG.
>What JRPGs are you playing?
Nothing right now since I'm busy with CTR.
>What JRPGs are you looking forward to?
Pre-ordered FE and RF4S (only played the first game), looking forward to Ryza, Ys IX, DQ XI S, and Shin Sakura Taisen. Also kinda interested in Alliance Alive, has anyone played the original? How was it?
>What are your favourite JRPGs?
Ao no Kiseki and Sen no Kiseki III, Atelier Rorona, Breath of Fire IV, FF XII.
The most interesting thing about this game besides the setting and aesthetic is that the cast hate each other for most of the game.
F-r-i-e-n-d-s had lots of worldbuilding too.
Taking a short hiatus from pic related. I'm about 25 hours in and just got finished with the tanker city Toma and at this point I feel like I'm just spinning my wheels. There's all these neat little scenes like a view of the floating city, or that big orb in the space with (helmetless) Darth Vader faces, doc Citan speaks to that weird looking pope-king from time to time.
It feels like the game is building up to something and I've been waiting for shit to hit the fan for a while now.
My general impressions are that the game is almost as crazy and varied as FF VII with a sort of otherworldly feel to it, kinda like what I assume Evangelion feels like to watch (never seen it). The scene direction is really cool at times like when they enter the room with the Mona Lisa-esque painting in the chapel, or the Ellie flashbacks. Xenogears feels like a real auteur project and that's why I wanna stick with it. But man, for some reason it still hasn't "clicked" like most good jrpgs do at around the 15-20 hour mark. I still think it's a great game so far.
What do you guys think of Xenogears?
It is, it's just a really shitty one.
An rpg made in Japan is a jrpg. That's it.
the game is pretty much like a higher budget artsy RPGmaker game: really shit game design /combat you fast forward through to enjoy the batshit story and great soundtrack.
>What JRPGs are you playing?
Cold Steel 2
Super Nep RPG
>What JRPGs are you looking forward to?

Not sure even what else is coming out? I haven't heard much about anything. Ryza probably just for thighs if nothing else.

Dragon Quest I - IV, VII, VIII

Final Fantasy I, IV, X, XII
Wild Arms I, III, IV
ar Tonelico I - III, Ar nosurge fite me, I like them all
The Arland Atelier games
Valkyrie Profile
Chrono Cross
..And a few dozen more. Plus a lot that would probably trigger aspies because they'd argue aren't the right genre, so fuck it.
Playing Ni no Kino 2 right now, which some guy from Yea Forums shilled me on by describing it at "president of the USA gets isekai'd by a nuclear bomb'. So far it's great. I'm about six hours in and aside from the fact there's no decent waifu yet it's probably one of my favourite JRPGs in years. It also looks gorgeous.
I also enjoyed Xenoweeb Chronicles 2's battle system and tiddies, but Rex being a whiney fag annoyed me.
>My general impressions are that the game is almost as crazy and varied as FF VII
>almost
Xenogears was intended to be the 7th iteration but was far too dark. FFVII took many of the same concepts but bastardized them for the pre-teen audience.
>almost as crazy and varied as FF VII
it far exceeds FF7 and shit hits the fan HARD. FF7 is a tonned down xenogears
Stuff starts getting real after the Thames, just be prepared cause you have 2 dungeons ahead, first is easy with a decent party. the second will be more gear focused so upgrade before going in there (it'll be obvious).
But your right at the point stuff starts getting crazier so I hope you enjoy.

Yeah you bet it was too weird to be VII.
>entire localization team left because they didn't want to be hung by the religious right after it's eventual release
I did play it. It just didn't click with me for some reason. Granted this was nearly 20 years ago, so I don't remember much detail, but I just remember being bored out of my mind most of the time I was playing it.
Anyone getting P5:R on launch in Japan so you don't get fucked in the ass by spoilers?
It is rather melancholy that, you fret about the leadership of Aveh and the fate of Kislev and the floating city of Shevat and even the innocents of Solaris, and then--whoops, turns out none of that mattered.
how bad is bravely default if I don't want to partake in the stupid village minigame? I remember playing it when it came out halfway through and it was like playing a shitty freemium game with the timers.
I'm just going to have to go dark for many months cause fucking atlus is still not doing worldwide releases
P5 story was fucking shit, I don't care if it gets spoiled
every year for the last five years I have played through the entire Final Fantasy series starting on December 1, including all superbosses and optional content. This year I'm thinking of doing a 100% beastiary run as well, and then blowing my brains out, splattering them on my computer monitors. Should I splurge this year and get original copies of the first 6? Been emulating them.

FF8 was my most hated game of all time for years, and the first two years it was physically painful to get through. The last few years though I've come to like it though, but mostly because I never draw because I understand how to abuse triple triad and turning cards into magic. There's just so much half-baked and broken shit in FF8, it's just a lot of wasted potential.
with cfw you can manipulate your save game I hear
I used to enjoy playing them as a kid, but now they're too much of a timesink. I need an immediate reason to enjoy a game, and JRPGs just take to damn long to fully unveil the mechanics for interesting gameplay. And chances it could be shit too.
Sounds like a terminal case of shit taste.
I live in Japan and got P5 on launch. I might skip R entirely because they're going to ruin the story by undoing everything with Goro and turning him into a party member that they all forgive despite being a piece of shit who deserved to die like a dog.
Currently about to finish Dragon Quest VIII and I've come to the conclusion that Yea Forums is absolutely full of shit since it barely talks about this absolute masterpiece jrpg

Just finished octopath. It was okay. I wished the story is more cohesive and there is more interaction between the characters.

While i don't like cold steel very much, at least not as much as sky and zero/ao, i still looking forward to CS3. Might play XC2 NG+ while waiting for it.
>What are your favourite JRPGs?
FF8, persona 3, TitS, Mana khemia, legend of dragoon
Absolute shit by comparison.
>None at the moment
>TWEWY, bar none.
Fantastically shit taste.
I'm not sure. I hated the original, but I still have hope they'll fix this pile of shit. The fact that everything comes out this autumn doesn't really help.
>accidentally challenging a JRPG's superboss and just barely managing to eke out a win over it
I haven’t been keeping up with any JRPG news, dude. Just been focusing on the ones I have on me. Also
>shitting on TWEWY
Which twewy is the best version?
its the original jrpg and probably the first mainstream rpg videogame anywhere, consistent quality and talent over 30+ years. you disgusting final fantasy weeb degenerate
TWEWY is a bad game.
DS version for sure. The ports are alright but none of them quite capture the feel of the fast-paced and unique nature of the dual screened battle system.
playing ffx. never got around playing it back in the day for whatever reason. I think I was turned down by the fact that I heard the game has no world map and it's like a linear experience. really enjoying it so far, ironically because it feels like an old squaresoft title now.

Sounds to me like you're just an insufferable faggot, and I'm glad I didn't like your favorite game.
Not when games like YIIK, Lunar Dragon Song, and Neptunia exist.
A terminal case of shit taste coupled with anger issues.
Name a JRPG with great combat?
>no romancing saga
>no dragon quest
>filename : jrpghistory banner
fuck off
Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is fucking great, but you don't actually unlock the whole battle system until you're about 20 hours in game.
Playing Vesperia for the first time. I really like it so far.
what game should I start with if I want to get into SMT?
SMT4 was made with newcomers in mind so probably start with that.
>What JRPGs are you playing?
Chaos rings
>What JRPGs are you looking forward to?
Cold Steel 3, FF8 remaster and maybee anotther star ocean, implying Tri Ace will ever turn back from their mobile gacha shit
>What are your favourite JRPGs?
Legend of heroes crossbell arc, star ocean 2, final fantasy 8
The game focusing on story rather on combat is literally the reason they are called JRPG.
If they would focuse on combat and action they would be called ARPG
Nocturne.
If you want "smt" try digital devil saga
>TWEWY is a bad game
Shit taste
Didnt expect you to know the difference between Arpg and Jrpg after this statement Usually i would explain you in detail why you`re a retard, but i didnt sleep for a while and im kind of tired, so just go to wikipedia instead and read an article about the term C(onsole)Rpg and crpg in general. It also explains you why Jrpgs are called jrpgs in the first place
I miss WA bros...
I really want a new wild west themed jrpg
>Lufia Series is forever dead
I can't take it anymore bros. Not even a fangame, no nothing. I loved this series but no one else loved it.
>What JRPGs are you playing?
Just dropped the entire trails series after finishing FC/SC and Zero, I think fans confuse a game having a lot of writing with a game hacing good writing, same goes for "worldbuilding". When it's not plodding along in household chores territory it's going full weebshit. Ouroboros might be the least compelling villains ever put to any medium, a chuuni illuminati that pulls new words out of their ass every time their 'plans' finish being used as a narrative device. Given that Cold Steel is suppossed to be worse than Sky and Crossbell, and that I don't want to spend another 80 hours touring crossbell in Ao the same way I did Liberl in SC, I think I'm done with Falcom.
>What JRPGs are you looking forward to?
Sakura Wars, possibly the new Atelier if it has time limits. I didn't play P5 so I may check out P5R
>What are your favourite JRPGs?
With a broad codex definition:
Suikoden 1 & 2
FF 1, 6, 7 and 10
Alliance Alive
Atelier Ayesha
Verdite trilogy
Valkyria 1, 3 and 4
Odin Sphere Leifrasir
I'm gonna finally play Lightning Returns. What should I expect?
good gameplay shit story
Based.
Trails is absolute shit, and literally the most generic JRPG you can possibly find.
When people talk about generic shit, they talk about Trails.
Not to mention that every game is literally the same.
Works for me. I liked 13-2's gameplay.
>Dislikes trails for bad writing
>Looking forward to atelier
I kind of dont get it. Sounds kind of like those people worshipping legend of dragoon while saying golden sun was a bad game.
Have your taste man, i just dont get it.
The best battle system SE ever made
>Atelier Ayesha
based
youtube.com
> I finished SC
>Fuck anyone who thinks the trails plot even comes close to gears
Trails gradually becomes more Gears-like as the arcs go on. The influence still shows in Sky, but elements of the plot don't start aping Gears until the Crossbell games and especially the second half of Cold Steel, but Cold Steel's legitimate garbage.
>Trails of Cold Steel 1 but I stopped, it’s trash
Yeah, i have no idea why people like cold steel at all.
>new Atelier, if it has time limits
it doesn't, watch the game play trailer
>Nobody replied to Legendiafag
Here, I'll give you a (You).
Liking different types of games for different things is normal, I would not decry Gran Turismo for its poor story. Atelier is a series highly focused on crafting mechanics, the use of which becomes arbitrary once the time limit is removed, hence my condition. Trails is a series focused almost entirely on it's writing, both in terms of individual games, and in terms of series and subseries arcs, but not only did I find Trails plot writing to be atrocious, but it's character writing rose at best to the level of mediocrity and spent most of it's time wallowing in cliché and convention so typical of the 'database culture' of Japanese popular media. It doesn't help that Trails as a whole looks worse the more you see of it; narrative flaws that were less evident in one game become more evident as subsequent games don't attempt to fix them, but rather double down on them.
I knew what track that would be, shame the rest of the Dusk series went in the direction it did.
Well shit, and with what looks like RTwP or ATB combat to boot; the best it can hope to be now is a very good example of a generic JRPG.
>What JRPGs are you playing?
Replaying Vesperia, gonna start the last remnant too
>What JRPGs are you looking forward to?
DQ builders and Cross Vein if they count, if not I have no idea
>What are your favourite JRPGs?
Sukoden 2/5, FFVII, Shadow Hearts 2, VP2, Mana Khemia
I want to continue playing Trails in the Sky: The Second Chapter, but characters and story are so retarded.
>estelle i grew up as an assassin and have killed countless people, likely over a hundred
>joshua i don't care as long as you let me suck your dick lmao, nothing else matters :3
In the trash it goes. I can't imagine how much more retarded the series gets with each game. The way people meme the fuck out of the Cold Steel games makes me think it gets a loooooooooot worse and more retarded.
>it gets a loooooooooot worse and more retarded.
Haha... and you'd be right to say that.
My favorite jrpg series are fire emblem, growlanser, ys, atelier, saga, and souls. Which of the following should I play and in what order: suikoden, baiten kaitos, arc rise fantasia, stella glow, neptunia, treasure of the rudras, alliance alive
>What JRPGs are you playing?
SMT4A, I'm about to beat the game because I'm in the final dungeon.
>What JRPGs are you looking forward to?
My backlog is full of JRPGs so among the ones I have I really want to play SMT Nocturne, Golden Sun and Bravely Default. As for new releases I'm really looking forward to FE Three Houses but I'll have to borrow my sister's Switch for that one.
>What are your favourite JRPGs?
I'm not sure, my favorite series as a whole is megaten but it's a tie between SMT4 and DDS1 and 2, and Pokémon Blue will always have a special place in my heart because it's my very first video game ever.
Magical Starsign. The gameplay isn't anything special but it's still a cute and fun game. The story got me hooked too, especially when it started becoming really fucked up with Mokka's implied future, the gummy girl, the cat girl's suicide that's being treated as a heroic sacrifice, etc.
Same for me. It's all because of college, work, then my internship and writing a long essay in several languages. Now I'm done with college and I'm graduating with a master's degree and I'm not working yet so I'll spend the summer playing as many games as I can and hang out with friends all over my country. I'm about to beat SMT4A even though I started the game in early 2017 because I just couldn't have enough time to play anything at all.
>mfw she was the actual more accurate self-insert compared to Flynn because most Japanese megaten fans are fujoshi and want to fuck Flynn
