I'm guessing that's all profit, right? I mean, the cost to develop and maintain all the servers and updates is what maybe $50 million? $100 million at most. It's free too so Apple/Google don't take a 30% cut, right? Or do they still get a cut on the in-app purchases?

Basically it's a matter of sheer volume that is raking in so much profit. It's the same reason fast food chains can sell extremely cheap food but still make billions in profits every year. Because the sheer number of people they're making those tiny bits of profit off of is so large that it all adds up to a ridiculously large amount.

Almost everyone in the general public has a phone and access to these games, and most people aren't smart with there money. I have a friend who spent about $230 to get a good pull in Kingdom Hearts Union X and then he freaks out in my texts about how he's short on his rent.
