"Honkers" has been their canonical name for over 50 years. Turok's people didn't have contact with Europeans before entering the Lost Valley, it makes sense dinosaurs would be described by their physical or behavior features instead using names Europeans had decided upon.

just because the turok video games are loosely based on a 50's comic book character, and is technically a reboot, it is it's entirely own thing that was unique enough at the time to get a lot of things right and amass a lot of fans. this is more akin to if the original turok comic turned into the style this game is going after in it's own new comic book adaptation. it's still fucking bad no matter how you slice it.
