If you still can't figure it out, just buy the games and PS2 physically (or at least just follow ). A PS2 is dirt nowadays and each game is just as cheap (most expensive one is AC0, which is $25-30 complete), and even then the hard drive solution allows you to bypass literally any issue emulation would give you.

Not OP but honestly PS2 emulation can be a hassle so I normally just advise for real hardware in most cases. It and Saturn are like the two exceptions, everything else is much better in emulation if you don't mind lacking 100% accuracy

I've skipped all the classic consoles because they all have save states.
Video games are not independent of the platforms they were designed for. Anything besides original hardware will never be the intended experience and the fact that so many people can relate to downloading complete SNES romsets and only trying a couple games for a couple minutes demonstrates this.

You're not aware to the full extent. The ps2's cpu is completely different from average architecture, with different clock cycles and machine code. The Wii and other consoles used existing hardware for their consoles, but the ps2 used custom architecture that only exists within the ps2. The reason pcsx2 is so wonky is that it's not just emulating the os like other emulators, but it's emulating the hardware itself. There's a helluva lot more depth needed compared to other consoles, and there's nothing to use for reference other than the ps2 itself. Also, pcsx2 is still receiving updates today so don't say that it's not improving.

When developing an emulator you can use save states like break points in a program. "oh hey this level crashed. I'll make a save state here for this game to see if this issue happens from a trigger in the level or if it was something deeper in the background like a memory leak." Plus maybe you like fighting a boss in a game but the game auto saves after a boss dies and you cant use save slots like Dark Souls. You can use save states you replay from certain points if you want. It's not just there to make games easier. I don't see how save states let you blow through a game anyway other than in AC's case where it lets you save mid mission.
