How are the psp/ps1 armored cores?

It's the first one I started with, since I always like to play series in order.
But this game is just straight up unfair sometime and it's too clunky to be played at the speed I feel it should be for me not to die on some mission

Still, I've played old From games and they felt a little better than this. I just want to play so I can fully appreciate Nine Ball
I even redid the controls to feel comfortable like a modern game
