I know this is bait, but fuck you. DS1 is and still is a great game.

You can only make the same game so often and have it be called a success
I think Souls peaked at 1 even though it already lost a lot of what made Demons Souls special, 2 initially seemed an even greater game but after longer play it just doesn't hold up in terms of quality
3 is just that pathetically restored mona lisa jpg, it's a good game but a shell of its former self
I don't care about "epic" fights and how 3 had the most epic bosses in the series and whatnot
It all lost itself in a spiral of devs jerking off each other

I don't think it "lost a lot of what made Demon's Souls special" at all. And I love that game. Not sure why people say things like that

It's not original and the later games improved upon the formula.
Second half is worse than DS2 so it wasnt even that good at the time.

I think it just lost a lot of its flair even just the second time around, Demons Souls was THE best combination of action+ RPG at the time it released after all
DaS also didn't have the cool PVP boss fight and other incredibly novel shit that could have actually pushed the medium forward by a lot, had it been carried on properly

It is mostly just nostalgia in that sense, but I think DeS is just peak japanese jank aRPG with just the right kind of visual infidelity where i'd gladly play it on my shitty CRT tv, I doubt many people would agree but that's how I feel nonetheless
