Well, if it's the Japanese version of the complete edition, basically the original Cyber Sleuth should have all the mons added from Hacker's Memory, + all the balance changes made to it. So it should be an improved port. Again, this is speculation, but this is literally what they did in Japan for its complete edition.

Cyber Sleuth is a monster collecting JRPG similar to SMT games, but with the battle system of FFX. You evolve Digimon and they have multiple evolution paths, and then you can revert them to earlier stages to go on completely different paths. It's a really fun mechanic because any Digimon can become any Digimon you want with enough evolving/reverting. Game is great fun. You really should pick it up.

Like what this user said, everything in Digimon tends to be a little different, but I think Cyber Sleuth is a great place to start honestly.

They do not. It's more akin to Pokemon where you get new Digimon and can store them in a sort of box/PC. But Digimon can always evolve/revert to new forms, so they are always changing.

Also like mentioned before, battles are 3v3, but your entire party consists of 11 mons. So 3 in battle, and 8 you can change with mid-battle.

yeah CS was huge, HM was dropped after a couple of threads because it was overpriced DLC expansion pack. It adds background story to CS but it added very little else to the game.

The fact it's selling both games as one and hopefully for the price of a new game not overcharged shit like that atelier trilogy it'll be worth for sure.

CS is only grindy if you don't know what you're doing. If you have the right setup you can literally take a party of Digimon from lv 1 to lv 60 in a single battle

The Cyber Sleuth series is probably the least grindy though. Just choose Hagurumon and opt to Digivolve it into PlatinumSukamon and when you get the farm look up Tactician USBs and you are set to get whatever you want whenever you want really.

Switchlets will get their peepees hard, and PC Chads will probably bang out some too. You'll get more porn, but not a flood.

Depends how autistic you are about evolutions. Just grow a balanced party that can handle all boss fights and you won't have to re-grind all the time

Next 0rder is not like the CS games, it's more like DW1, which is to say it's a tamagotchi based monster raising type game. If that's what you're looking for then, it's easily the best game of that type since there's a lot of QoL stuff that prior games didn't have. For example, Next 0rder is the only one that doesn't make you look up a guide to get the Digimon you want since it has a guy that will tell you evolution requirements if you give him some items

Some people will swear up and down that it's good but I really don't think so. The game is NOT adequately balanced around how they lessened the pressure around the lifespan system so your Digimon living a long life can actually be pretty annoying when you want to have something else and the whole town thing is now really tedious because of the material gathering.

I bought Sleuth and Hacker, and just can't stand them. Evolution progression feels awful, and the mons you choose feel completely arbitrary until you run into a wall and have to go grind up a counter.

Digimon does have a pretty clear theme of being about the bonds between Digimon and Tamer, true to its Tamagotchi roots, as opposed to Pokemon being a collectathon franchise.

But yeah, Digimon never stuck with one set of characters or one world or one set of evolution mechanics or design thematic. It just does whatever it wants. I remember it being pretty consistently on Fox Kids when it aired in the west though, not sure about changing networks.

Whatever you think about how interesting they are, they are nonetheless a dimension of gameplay that CS does not have. I think CS is better off without most of those things, but it's definitely not more complex.

My biggest problem with the CS games is that apart from signature moves, the only moves you get are a bunch of elemental variations of the same 5 attacks, a few buff and heal moves and a set of status effect moves, and that's it. I wish battles had more mechanics like weather to them to give them more depth

CS has Dominion battles, ABI and CAM, unique support skills for every Digimon, a wider array of moves that can go on each Digimon, more equipment options

The point is that those mechanics are actually there for players who do try to enter the multiplayer and bring out all the game really has to offer.

A multiplayer battle of CS, on the other hand, is not too terribly different from a single player battle, with the most interesting thing about it being the thought that goes into your team's composition based on your memory limitation, and that's not even a feature of the battle itself.

The only other way you can make things more interesting is through equipment choices which effect stats or move effectiveness, but Pokemon has that too even if you are limited to just one item per Pokemon, which arguably makes the choice more meaningful anyway

It can't be helped, as far as I can tell CS was Habu's first time attempting multiplayer with actual balance, and the Digimon library is much smaller than what Pokemon has now, especially considering that Digimon has more evolution stages than Pokemon and typically only Ultimate levels are gonna be viable.

You're underestimating the anime in both franchises. The Pokemon anime is one of the reasons it became so successful and kickstarted the pokemania, a lot of people still relate pokemon to Ash, Pikachu and company.
The Digimon anime, mainly Adventure, was always more well known than the games, and at the same time, the games weren't exactly the main focus of the franchise either which is probably why they were so all over the place in terms of gameplay compared to each other.

Has some good moments, but probably one of the more average seasons. Xros Hunters is fucking terrible and is somehow worse than 02. Manga is also a pretty fun ride, and turns Nene's younger sibling into a girl.

When Hunters tried it was somewhat tolerable, the Betsumon episode probably the best. But when it was terrible, it was down there with the worst episodes in the franchise's history. FlaWizarmon's episode was legitimately the worst Digimon episode I have ever seen.

Cheap way to detail something, just draw a white shape that kinda makes sense with the area it was slapped on and the brain tries to interpret it as a signal of depth, like the drawing was draw much better than it actually is

Not everything, no. Digimon World 3 wasn't fun for me, mainly because I was just a kid and didn't know many of the things, but even then, the battles are really slow and annoying at times.

There weren't really any other than a run faster ability, which didn't even matter so much because the areas you can use it in are mostly pretty small and the speed increase, while notable, isn't especially large.
