There's less black people in the countries where games are developed. Same goes for any "underrepresentation" for black people in almost any field.

These are the reasons.

Biggest reason.

A) Firstly because black kids don't want to make video games, they want to be athletes or rappers or just be in a gang (sadly). These are their role models and these things their culture tells them they should be.

It's like asking why aren't there more Klingon ballet dancers, to use a star trek example.

Second biggest reason.

B) because they make up a smaller percentage of the population, so there will be less of them even if they all had the same role models and same interests there would be far less.

Lower reason based on certain fields in game development, example programming.

C) Average racial IQ makes it harder for certain groups ON AVERAGE to be programmers etc.

Basically, no matter how hard companies push diversity hiring or forced hiring of blacks they will never address the real issue. They can only do that by address black culture in the west and trying to move them away from rap culture, gang culture and sports.

For the same reason that there aren't a lot of Hispanic or Native American game developers.

because blacks are a minority, and game developer it's complex and low-paid shit job, if it's to put effort in it's better to go after a safe career, amplify it for black people and divide this by minority

I know you're being ironic, but it's still baffling how little this guy cares about the games he makes. If you check out some of the interviews he has done through the years you'll see that he only cares about his game making a profit so that his company can continue to exist. He's like a numbers guy. It's almost painful to see how little passion this guy has for making games that are truly fun.

I love how you people push this meme when the only people being hired for diversity are middle-class white women.

Maybe theres an effect of people not wanting to work with or under blacks, and prefer to forming game dev teams with only white/asians/irish.
Of course if you look for capital for forming a company blacks dont have it.
Then theres social element that blacks are less likely to be extremely anti-social who spend 80h alone on a computer working on something creative because their single moms cant afford a good pc and prefer to have them go outside play basketball or join a gang.

It's literally the law, if a black man or woman applies for a job and they meet the requirements they have to hire them or face legal action.

He just doesn't take criticism well. As soon as something criticizes his game just immediately switches to full defense mode. Flamewar follies was like the prime example that demonstrated this. He's not really famous, he's infamous.

I don't know how much of that is true. Even if it is, the guy still somehow goes on to pull up numbers when talking about Battlecruiser 3000 (or whatever the name of its newest reincarnation is) to defend how it was "good".

That's how they pretty much are when I was growing up in Riverside CA. Black and Mexican kids trying to be gangbangers. I met all of 1 black kid that wasn't interested in that but he was not the norm.
Seems you think your safe suburban far from the inner city self is under the assumption that your one black friend you went to school with that also had adoptive white parents is any indication of the reality of inner city blacks and thier parents or lack therof

I myself am black and the only thing true about what he said is B, I know black people who are programmers and work in the ICT field and I have a buddy who is currently trying to make it as an indie dev, the type of blacks that I see continually talked about online are a minority and I believe you guys know this as well but for some reason you'd rather remain ignorant

Blacks make up only 13% of the US population but commit 50% of video game development crimes.

I don't know there aren't any blacks in tech overall
