I don't think that's the way I'd describe it. 1 felt more like they were stuck in a post-apocalyptic hell hole and were genuinely working hard to try and survive day to day when it comes to getting food, water and not dying to hellish monsters and stuff like that. In 2 it feels like everything is just handed to them and the overall feel of the group is more happy go lucky, so it doesn't feel much like a game where the theme is survival. 2 had worse consequences though, the potential fate of the world is much worse than the endings in 1 for the most part.

No, I played with no free battles, no deaths in battle, and no mid-battle saves. I sometimes had to retry fights multiple times though.
In that particular instance Pixie was just strong enough to survive a hit while defending so she could replenish her MP with alter pain and wear down the enemy with zio.

World of STR is really good in stuff besides the original DeSu 1 (and even then it's good but there aren't enough skills for multiple STR characters). In DeSu 2/ BR you can have a dedicated multi-attack STR character and a dedicated single-hit STR character, the dancer lady and Jungo specialize in said roles. Or MC can do it if you want to field magic users. Though DeSu 2 does have some niches balance builds can bring, I've seen people make some whacky balanced builds that can solo bosses in that.

People say Holy Dance is one busted, but Drain is in my opinion the single strongest skill

Shit gets massively real when you get Magic Yin, which boosts magic damage by 1.5x by doubling the mag cost, but since Drain only costs 2 mp it means you can go for an ultra Holy Dance one turn and finish whatever survived with Drain.
Drain also serves as a debuff on enemies as you can deplete their MP, halting their attacks by depleting their MP.

Yeah, it was pretty well done and extensive. I don't usually enjoy dubs (including OC's dub) but I thought this one was better than the average one.
Joe sounded like a slacker, Daichi sounded like exactly like he looked, Fumi is as above, etc. Good stuff. All the FATE differences made it feel like they actually accounted for when you pick stuff, again the only exception being Ronaldo.
I adore this game but I can't bring myself to do Ronaldo's route in Septentrione. Thinking about trying it in Triangulum even though it's dumb, because he's less of a prick there.

Pretty much, I just like it better this way. He fucks you and your friends over, attacks and constantly antagonizes the only organization standing in the way of the remnants of the world and total universal erasure, tries to murder a disarmed woman who he knew in cold blood, and he was motivated by a revenge plot created entirely within his own mind against a boy who couldn't care less about him (Yamato didn't kill Airi's father). She's not a soldier, she has no combat training, she started the game talking about fashion and music concerts. She has all the right in the world to want to get the hell out and get home asap. If you didn't have Yuzu in your party and removed her dialogue, you're just parading around town and having a gay old time, which is exactly how DeSu2 feels. Another character that establishes well the setting is Midori. Her over the top anime behavior immediatly clashes with the cynical approach of the setting and causes her to get blamed and targeted.
These two are charcters that were assigned flaws with the intention reafirming the dark and cynical tone of the game, and they do it masterfully.

The game takes place only during 7 days out of which 5 had "don't die" as the biggest priority. She has all the right in the world to whine that her days are literally numbered.
Literally the plot didn't involved saving the world until day 6, and even then she serves her role the whole way through as her ending is about dropping everything and try to escape, to try and get back into a normal life, leading into the bad ending (or at least it was until Overclocked).

This is the way the writers of the story made her in order to serve the narrative of the game, and it worked as many people praise DeSu1 for having the superior story BECAUSE of the darker tone of the setting. Whether she didn't suit your tastes is completely a (you) problem.

The credits just highlighted the worst aspect of the show, which was basically focusing on the opposite of what the games were (preventing people from dying in the death videos). It's a terrible anime for people who want to see more of any characters who aren't ones that live to near the end. Even then, I hated how Fumi just accepted her death, especially when she's one of the explicitly unkillable characters in the game. It was certainly one of the worst tie in anime I've seen. I'm sure there's literal no-effort stuff out there but this seemed like there was certainly effort, but it was all focused on making it bad. Granted the music was fine and the animation was passable.

Going full ham and making teams that go once every 3 hours and one-shot enemies from the other side of the map, or teams that teleport to enemy, punch them and then teleport back is fun. Race skills were an awesome idea. The fusion system works great with the gameplay too.
