Smash has all of the fighting mindgame essentials in regards to movement, far more-so than Mortal Kombat has ever had. I don't understand why MK is considered a fighter when that entire game is about quick reflexs & combo memorization. Tekken being hard is a myth. It only becomes that way when you stop button mashing and pretend to play a fighting game with your opponent and start respecting moves. Then it becomes hard. But if you just buttom mash and play random the entire time, it's the easiest thing in the world.

tekken has some difficult moves and techs to pull off, but difficulty of execution alone doesn't make a game hard and expecially not deep

It's an anime game, but it's fairly subdued compared to the likes of Guilty Gear or BlazBlue. There are no instant kill combos, you have to lose neutral at least 3 times to die, airdashing doesn't really exist, and there's more of a focus on neutral rather than oki shit.

I can tell you why KI is dead, at least. The prominent figures in the community around 2014-2016 didn't realize the kind of influence they had by being big on social media, talked shit on the game with no context, and often no real understanding of why changes were being made, and other players in the community listened to them. Plenty of shitting on the devs ensued, even though the game in its current state is way more balanced and interesting than it was in S1-S2, and people left the community over what amounted to bad communication from morons who didn't know better.

Let's be honest, it was never really alive. DoA was always a side series among fighters that was never treated as important.

I'm able to get matches pretty fast for now but I see the same names popping up frequently, I don't think this game will last much longer, in terms of online play that is.

They made a lot of stupid moves and decisions with it. But this is nothing new for them. I think the worst of it though is that they removed all the VF characters and instead new shitty characters with zero development.

I actually kind of like the game play of the DoA series. I just through it was dumb how they tried to turn their backs on the fanservice when they made it a cornerstone of the series.
