Wait, can we not search courses by the words in the course's name or its description? That seems like a pretty big oversight considering Super Smash Bros Ultimate's Stage Builder has a search that lets you find stages their name. How come a side-mode in a fighter game has a keyword search but not a full level creator game?

this level is manly vertical and you get chased by rising lava. It contains fast platforming, some puzzle segments and a bone boat ride. It took really long to time the raising lava level right, because otherwise it wouldn’t be threatening when you start from the checkpoint.

A recreation of the Lost Woods segment in LbtwW. Implemented the ghost puzzle using tracks. There's a bonus area if you get all the Pink Coins.

Bit Crusade 3 is the sequel to the two full games (1-1 to 8-4) I created within Mario Maker 1, reminiscent of traditional Mario levels, and (eventually) utilizing all 5 game styles. Meant to be played in sequence as an adventure game, starting at the 1-1. There's secrets to find, alternative pathways and other goodies as well. Try to find all 5 Power Pepperonis hidden in each stage to access the super secret bonus room at the end of each level.

Haven't seen many Super Leaf focused stages so I thought I’d rectify that.

Give em a go, I'm usually pretty good about leaving feedback here and on the game itself. Reply to this with some stages you want played and I'll prioritize those, otherwise I pick through the thread at random. If you complete the entire first world reply to this with what you thought or anything you find that's busted and I'll play all your levels, and if I find one I really like I'll make a webm of part of it to showcase it.

About 2/3rds done with 2-3, but my switch is almost dead so I'mma take a break from building to play stages while it charges up. If ya'll got some levels ya'll want played send em my way and I'll probably play everything you got.

Captain Toad: The Temple of Tilt - QH7-W33-QVF

I made a "No leaving the ground" stage themed around using see-saws to get around. It's got three "Star Coin" challenges, and ends with a series of puzzles based around manipulating see-saws in other ways.

Incidentally, and in no way related, Nintendo really needs to add a "Don't Jump" clear condition.

That "boss" was quite the challenge. Pretty good level overall.

Reminder that you should never make a hard section without a checkpoint right before it. That means a maximum of 2 hard sections per level! Please do not make the player go through an entire area just to try a really hard jump again!

I sometimes play levels barely paying attention, and I just happen to run into goombas because I can't be bothered to dodge.

I think do but not by much. Atleast 80% of my playtime on there is with levels that dont have that tag. Might just be that singleplayer outnumbers them though. Real question is why they don't have a huge priority.

In one part you have to spin on a bomb for a few seconds. Some do that instantly, others literally die 150 times before doing it.

I like it! I love it when people also decorate their stage, but not overdo it like all these jungle stages do with 100 vines. The Greensnake part was a bit boring (except that one part, you know the one) and the final boss can be cheesed by standing to the far left/right. They dont shoot if you stand infront of them

I beat these two, and really liked them both. IT has some of the best horror atmosphere I've seen in a Mario Maker level, and the boss was trippy as fuck. Great job on that one.

Freezeezy Peak was like the perfect collectathon, you did a good job representing all the 10 Jiggies and the stage was big but not so huge that I ever got lost. I DID almost run out of time but I grabbed the last one with 4 seconds to spare. Following.

I'm playing this one right now, Hopopolis is a reference to that one level from Tropical Freeze right? I like it so far, feels like I'm getting close to the end and it definitely reminds me of that stage

I'm sorry, bowsetteposter, but... this is a very bad level.
The first part is bad in its own way, but through the entire meowser autoscroll section, I was thinking "boy, imagine how bad it would be to die in the second half of this". And then I did, trying to get into the pipe.
So I asked myself if I wanted to spend another three minutes in an autoscroller, and I said no, and I stopped playing your level.

Was it by somebody with literally no maker points & no uploaded courses of their own?

yes. you can also do it by putting the spring down on the 2nd step while making sure the red koopa is able to get back into his shell, bounce off said spring back down to the bottom and then grab the 2nd red shell and carry it up with you

This ones a lot easier if you can hold onto yoshi, the objective is more to drive home how important he is and not that important (thers an egg right next to the goal). The big secret in this one requires you to jump off his back.

Alright, me again, 40 something attempts later I finally beat it.

Lemme preface by saying I really despise the "no touching the floor" win condition after that stage. Before I disliked it but now it's approaching pure hatred levels. The stage itself is a pretty fun setup that's pretty fair for the most part but over half of those failed attempts were from touching the ground in a way that I could have salvaged the run were it not for the win condition present. There's enough jumps in the stage where you're fucked anyway if you don't make the leap you need so it seems unnecessary to have it stacked on top of that. I remember the original stage having next to no down time either so maybe that's why but here it's just kinda frustrating.

The other thing I'd fix is the first set of cannons, if you come in too high which is likely to happen after the banzai bill the second cannon wont fired, automatically fucking you over. They just need to be raised a line or two and it won't even be an issue. Other than that I think its pretty solid, sorry for jacking up the fail rate so high but it was one of those things I KNEW I could do, I made it to the end on my third attempt so I knew it was possible, just a string of BS that kept me from being able to do it stacked on top of my own fuckups. Followed, I'll give the rest of your stages a go too but I need a break after that and a fucking cigarette lol.

Fair enough, I guess. Here's something more helpful.

In the first section, the lava tide didn't feel like it was providing a meaningful purpose, to me. Which sound weird because I died like a dozen times to it. But each time was it barely scraping my toes, which didn't exactly feel great. There wasn't enough of a difference built up between "safe-from-lava zone" and "danger-rush-through-this zone", which lava tide levels really need. I think it would have served better by maybe increasing the tide's size by a few blocks, making the safe zones smaller and more spaced out, and moving all threats from the safe zones to the lava-danger areas. Any threats that can't survive being submerged in lava (fire bros) should be completely removed from the lava tide areas, and moved to other parts of the map. Doing all that would make the lava tide feel dangerous and make players think about it a lot more, instead doing like I did -- ignoring it, accidentally dying to it, and getting mad at the level.
Also there was a door I went through at one point where I started running right immediately and died before I even realised the lava tide was in effect. Again, making it more obvious that the tide is something to worry about would solve that.

The thwomps were pretty poorly placed throughout, I thought. They were impossible to run through, and just forced me to maintain a stuttering pace whenever they were around. Which is okay for a single section, but they showed up two or three times, doing that. It felt like it took away from the momentum of the level.

The aesthetics of the level -- this was pretty good in the meowser area, I'll note (though a one-screen horizontal scroll-lock would have been nice). But the castle looked really repetitive, visually. You probably want to try to keep things looking more interesting there, a bit.

I haven't even gotten to talk about the enemies or minibosses yet, but have hit the character limit. Hopefully this helps more.

It's fine, I've had to reupload that stage twice for softlock reasons in that room so i triple checked to make sure there was no way for it to happen this time. Meticulous as I am even I make bonehead moves sometimes and forget simple things that can fuck the whole level over, usually stuff I had no idea to expect. I want my stages to be the best they can be so stuff like folks letting me know helps a lot.

Honestly, if people boo anything from these threads they're a cunt and haven't played enough endless mode to realize what makes a bad level. I've played some bad levels from here, but I never boo because you can at least see that people are putting actual effort and trying to make something good.

Something based on Galaxy (it could be even like each semisolid is from a different galaxy) and with the gravity stuff working with night mode turned on. It could be with the tiles having a "gravity range" on each of their sides that pulls Mario and "sticks" him even to walls or the ceiling. It would be hard to pull it off and there would be problems with tiles intersecting each other's ranges, but I'm sure they could figure something out.
As for the item, I would like to see the Stop Watch from SM2. It would freeze every name and falling items for some seconds.

Nothing wrong with them by themselves, but they're a common add to levels, in small arena areas. Meaning, when I fight them in your level, it's the fiftieth time I've fought them, in an area similar enough to yours. It's just really uninteresting through repetition.
Your Meowser section is a good example of using bosses, since Meowser isn't the main part of the area -- the actual platforming is. Someone else could make the same type of level, and it'd be different enough. Can't say that about the minibosses.

Is it possible to put a wiggler in on/off block that's also on a track? Currently I have tried putting the wiggler on the track, then the on/off block on the wiggler, but the wiggler just spawned in regardless. Next I put the on/off block over the wiggler, then tried to put the track overtop them but of course the wiggler doesn't stick to the track.

I'm just trying to create a simple sequence where you create a route but don't see it until you offscreen to try and progress but realize you can't so you backtrack and realize that a new path was created back where you just came from. And I prefer the wiggler since it's easier to jump on that other small enemies on a track.

Finally maintained 100 world records and got the achievement, that was a chore

I have posted my levels many times in these threads, and I've gotten very positive feedback. I also spend a lot of time playing levels and learning from people's mistakes to make sure I don't make shitty levels.

I have received some criticism on some levels, and I've fixed them accordingly. I was never looking for a hugbox.

thoroughly enjoyed it, but the checkpoint is kind of pointless since the second half of the level is a complete cake walk

I never play Mario U, but I found it overly difficult upfront. Would benefit by giving a mushroom at start so people can have one bad landing at least. Also you should consider adding an easy "tutorial" section so people can get familiar with the concept.

Another challenge is pacing/long wait time at start. Having Mario start in another world to pipe into the course for no purpose just pads time when I restart course, same with the long saw blade track on that first jump. Every replay I had to pipe in, watch the saw go down and then up all the way before beginning.

I do like how tight the platforming was though. A lot of solid ideas but I think you just need to be a bit more merciful to the player - remember the course so familiar to you is all new for them.

Oh yeah, also wanted to mention:
Upwards pipes can be... specific, to get into. It clearly wasn't supposed to be a leading challenge of the meowser area, to get into that pipe, so make it a little easier -- rotate it to a sideways pipe.
When you're up to the final platform, it becomes really hard to dodge the fireballs that meowser sends your way, and I think my death there wouldn't be super atypical. After the first fireballs lands, after all, the fire now blocks you from seeing where the pipe is properly. A sideways pipe would make that bit so much nicer.

simply put, needs to be reworked. I can't make portrait ghosts fun, beyond boss fights and recreating the layout is difficult. I may just do a Luigi's Mansion boss rush and rework it, since the bosses are done and fun.

this is my attempt at a vertical water level. i'm not sure if to make it dark or not, for the deep see part. But the basic idea is that you are hunting for treasure in a ship wreck and dive deep for it.
you start in the jungle and warp to the water level to simulate the diving.
it will be objective based but i want it to be easier, so you wont need to find more than half the treasure which will be 50 big coins. I plan on having branching pathways and a ship at the bottom with a door that forces the player up and to the goal

enemies get bigger the further down you go, like sea monsters

what do y'all think? most people don't like my harder stuff so i'm trying to make some ezpz calm levels to see if I can learn anything

yeah i figured out that set up eventually. my only criticism of the level is you put your hardest part first and then it gets successively easier, where i usually prefer the opposite. on the other hand, once you've figured out the beginning, i don't have to grind out attempts at the very end, so that's a good thing

Cleared it, the red coins at the beginning were annoying to get due to lining up bob-bombs in SMB without being able to carry them. Got shit on by the bombs coming out of pipes just trying to line things up. Otherwise good reward behind the locked door and overall not bad..

Criticism: the three back-to-start doors were in the same order on exit as they were on entrance, and you could use that to narrow down the number of tries you had to make.
Try randomising them next time, to make it worse.

The whole concept of secret exits in shit in SMW is what puts it above SMW3 for me, and I'm disappointed that's still not a thing in MM.

Recently every time I boot up Mario Maker I just stare at the blank canvas while I get more and more frustrated about being unable to come up with a fun level idea until tears are welling up in my eyes and I ragequit just to repeat it all over again later. Even SMB3 got warp whistles for finding secrets in hard to find places, and SMB1/2 had a warp system. The whole MM interface is fucked in concept alone since you're limited to vague tags and a dumb "popularity" algorithm to get some new levels outside of sharing codes in 3rd party sites. This kind of search is much more suted to worlds rather than levels, which need way more detailed queries to find things that are relevant.

well maybe have a final section of the level with an open floor or some other kind of threat? that way you've practiced all level and you're just repeating what you've learned but then if you heck up, you're punished for it.

how the FUCK do I set up a "room"? the camera refuses to stay in place even though mario is led through a door to a completely confined space that fits on a single screen

adventures in avarice is very good, probably the only "exploration" type level i've played and actually enjoyed

Wall has to extend from the bottom to the top on both sides

Horizontal stages only vertically lock if you don't include anything at all above the halfway height (indicated by a thicker line in edit mode).
Apart from that, you get locks by fully-extended walls from edge to edge of the area. 'Walls' must be made of ground or hard blocks (I think there might be a third type, but can't remember it). Keep in mind that slopes do NOT count as walls, even though they can look visually identical depending on how you've placed them.

You get all the levels you could ever want you fuckin moron, plus you get to make your own, and while it doesn't have EVERYTHING, it still has enough that it inspired hundreds and hundreds of cool courses. A golden opportunity given that Nintendo would never put levels that hard in their own games because they have to be accessible for sales. Is there a lot shitty courses? Yeah, but that's life, you gotta invest effort into wading through shit and garbage to get the gems.

Can you make larger maps than Mario Maker 1, or are you still stuck using sub-level to extend your level size?

Same size, but the ground limit is at least expanded so you are less likely to cut it short due to limits.

Both your stages were very fun man. Coin collection stages aren't nearly as easy to do well as folks think but you nailed it imo. Avarice in particular was very fun to explore, lots of tuff tucked away everywhere. My only red flag is the yellow blocks that lead up to boom booms room, you can get stuck if you try to crouch jump as big mario, but I caught myself before I got softlocked. Aside from that, A+ stuff, dropping a hot steamy follow on ya

Follow-up Q then. I know you can lock the camera now and control it more, so could you say, have a 'lower' part of a map and then an 'upper' part, without the camera ever moving vertically to pass that transition point?

I'm really glad you liked them. I'm thinking about doing an Avarice Redux where I fix/change some things and reupload it, so I'll definitely fix that issue if I decided to do that, as well as an Adventures in Avarice II with the same concept but different hazards and setting. just sort by new and play easy levels that nobody else will play. you can get 8 WRs pretty quick
