You can equip Agents with stuff created from the energy you harvest after studying them, and every now and then shit hits the fan and monsters or robots or humans trying to ruin everything or even the Insane Clown Posse showing up to party with your Abnos.
I'd say pirate it and play 10-15 in-game days. Maybe less if you just hate it right from the get-go, but after that if it's still REALLY not working for you, best to cut and run.

Don't put points in Justice unless it's way later and you took massive losses, in which case having points in it will help you more even at a LOB premium. Justice is 3x the cost of all other stats to level, so it's better to train with Work or use Mirror to shuffle stat totals which can give you Justice, or if you're lucky and get You Must Be Happy.

Pre-upper suppression bonuses: For the sake of your sanity, bump up stats just enough so that the agent can grind easily, never bump Justice. Keep agent numbers low, like 2~3 for further sake of your sanity since you're going to be grinding for a long time, even if you take advantage of Training Team bonuses

Well there's your first mistake. It's a management sim. If you play through the first couple days you should get the hang of it, most abnos that you get in those days are easy to deal with.
Basically just
>Send employees to work on an abno
>Each abno likes different works
>Successfully working an abno gets you energy
>Some abnos can kill you if you work them the wrong way
>You finish the day when you collect a certain amount of energy
>Successful days mean you gain LOB points which you spend on hiring new employees or making your current ones better
>Energy gained from an abno can be used to unlock information and equipment
>When your employees work on an abno, they gain experience in that work's related stat
The rest of the mechanics will come as they present themselves.

Let me simplify it for you:
1) Send employees to work in your abominations. Depending on the task to be performed, you might make them happy or mad,
2) The happier you make the monsters, the more blue boxes you get, the sadder you make them, your worker takes more damage.
3) Get enough blue boxes to pass the day.
4) Each abnormality is unique and requires different cares. You can click on the title of the containment unit and then click on the boxes to unlock more info using the blue boxes you won by working on them.

About everything else, take it slowly. Play the first few days to learn the ropes. Enjoy getting your facility wiped.

...How did you think it was a platformer? This is a strategy game, something of a micromanagement simulator.
The basics are simple. Lob is just what you use to buy and upgrade agents outside of days. There are 4 colors of work, and different abnormalities like or dislike different colors, and each has special stuff they will do, so that's what you have to figure out. Every bunch of works a meltdown will happen on a few abnos, which basically means you have to work on them before time runs out but that's about it. Beyond that just throw agents at abnos, get energy, and try to have fun. The story is cool if you get it but if not just enjoy the characters.

Overload is the little red penalty bar (e.g. the "-6%" on ALEPHs) that disappears when you reach a meltdown level, not the meltdowns or counters themselves.
