Yea Forums was killed by memes. The memes infected the users of Yea Forums, turned them into meme zombies, and made us unable to respond through anything but memes, heavily discouraging effortposting and sincerity since it's only going to be met with a "cringe" and "have sex".

Everyone only consumed but progressively less people created. Memes got run into the ground as soon as they were made, but with nobody to make new memes, we got stuck with our current array of buzzwords, and, like shit clogging up a toilet, since we had no new memes to replace them for a long time, the smell got so bad that everyone either stopped posting or had to succumb to the levels of those heavily infected by the memes to preserve any semblance of discussion.

Take "cope", for example. It is an elegant deadly meme. It is completely devoid of personal attachment from the person who uses it, so anybody accusing you of being butthurt is shouting at clouds. It takes absolutely zero effort to use on your part, which allows you to annoy people who do put effort into their posts. You cannot reasonably counter a "cope" without appearing invested, and thus butthurt, and thus losing the game. The only way you could save face is to ignore it, but everyone here is too retarded to ignore dumb shitposts that don't warrant any attention, so what do they do? They post "cope" back, to try and hide their butthurt with the same maximum detachment. And so, unable to counter the meme other than duplicating it, the meme spreads, and board quality plummets even further.
