My preferred tool of escapism is my mind. I like to imagine I'm miserable in the distant future. I live off scraps and barely make enough to sustain myself but I have a sweet VR setup that I use to create my own adventures where everything is amazing for me.
One of my favorite parts of the fantasy is where I'm super depressed, so I get in the VR machine and after about an hour the power goes out because I couldn't afford to both eat and pay the electric bill, then I have to get some large batteries and charge them illegally, then bring them back to power my VR machine if even for a short amount of time.

you can do a lot of stuff with moneynon-related to humans. e.g. buying property, building a nice house, buying beautiful furniture, buying a car, traveling, buying animals for your property. buying an aquarium with rare fishes or other small sea animals.

Not a requirement. I like traveling the world for example. Hiked through 3 countries so far on foot during vacations. But I'm too poor to drop my job and do it full time. So im shitposting here because tomorrow it's back into the wagecage.

And even if you want to be a shutin - building your own workshop and tinkering IRL is way more interesting than some basic minecraft shit any game can provide. That again however is closed off if you don't have the money&time. You can do poorfag stuff of course but the cool toys are quite expensive.
