Hazy Maze Cave > Jolly Roger Bay > Bowser in the Dark World > Wet-Dry World > the rest

I really hope Nintendo makes a game with the same bizarro surreal atmosphere SM64 has one day

Based. It's like a playground.

REMINDER THAT 0.5 A-PRESS = 1 A-PRESS

FUCK PANNEN
FUCK TASERS
FUCK SPEEDRUNNERS
AND MOST IMPORTANTLY

PRAISE TJ "HENRY" YOSHI

*worst

sorry finger slipped

Hazy Mazy Cave is also a great level. It, Wet Dry World, Jolly Roger Bay and Lethal Lava Land are my favorites

I doubt it, I think what probably makes it so surreal are the hardware limitations and it being Nintendo's first 3d game, not anything intentional. Happens a lot in these early 3d platformers but is very noticeable in Mario 64.
The secret underwater town was pure kino. And that fucking background

My favourite is the shifting sand level

hazy maze cave > wet dry world > whomps > tick tock > tall tall mountain > the rest

But the argument is that within the start and end of entering the level, you only utilize 1/3 of the parts of a full A press, therefore you do in fact use 1.5 A presses to finish the level.

He's right that half an a press doesn't exist though, unless youre cutting the power of the console mid run you always complete the A press to a full A press.

Wrong. Cool concept, but tedious to play. One of the levels I skip entirely if I'm not deliberately going for 120 stars.

>1/3 = 1/2

One A press has 3 parts.

If you use the A-press in a different level, and keep it held down until you use half an A press later on, then complete the game you still completed it in 1 A press. That's what the half an A press is, if you still have A held down you can save on an A press, otherwise you have to add an A press to your counter

Who is pannen?

So where does the 1/2 come in?

Honestly it's the one I hear the most complaints about but it's still pretty good
Though I don't really think Mario 64 had any bad levels
Is there a tier list creator for Mario 64 levels on that tier maker site yet?

Right in the middle

Time to make one, Yea Forums:

There are 3 stages, Pressing A, holding down A, and releasing A but releasing the A button doesn't have any value or effect on Mario, so the only altering parts are pressing the button, and holding the A button

You're wrong, pushing down the button is a full press. Depressing the button afterwards isn't a part of the pushing process.

Aren't the ukiki picture and the wriggler picture from the same level

Aren't the whirlpool and the eel from the same level as well or am I just losing it

That whirlpool is from Bowser's submarine one, but yeah theres also one in the eel level

Didn't bother with the bonus levels bc not really a fair comparison

nice lists but if BBH isn't #1 you're doing something wrong

>pushing down the button is a full press.
Until your thumb lifts up it’s still a half.

>people still don't understand .5x A presses just means it would add 1 A press on an individual star basis and 0 A presses in a 120 star run

You're wrong, the game is able to detect the initial press on a single frame, on a subsequent frame it detects whether the button is still being held down and/or whether the button has been released, these are 3 different states and each can have a function, it is possible to execute all 3 over 3 frames i.e. down/held/up, or simply down/up over 2 frames.
