Both of those statements are retarded. There are excellent games now just as there were excellent games back then. The only reason you remember those old games as being all 10/10 amazing is because you don't remember the piles of shovelware and garbage that also existed back then because no one ever talks about it. The one thing I will say though is that licensed games used to be fucking amazing and sometime after like the mid 00s the quality just dropped off a fucking cliff.

A lot of new games do offer a great improvement over of games. Something like Factorio, for example, was not possible on old hardware.
