I do like the SK games to an extent but I'll agree that they could be so much more. I blame a few things here and there like the placid enemy AI and overgenerous leveling system for that, though. Estival Versus aside, the actual control and mechanics of SK's main games are generally fine but they can definitely do better even with what they have, they struggle to leave that 6/10 range as brawlers.

At the moment, even with stuff like Meet n Fuck, the issue is that the game doesn't add anything to the girls beyond what you can skim off R34 sites for free. EV and Renewal have positive changes relative to Shinovi, but whereas Estival mostly changes things for the worse I would argue that Renewal mostly changes things for the better. It's only worse in that it's slightly less smooth than Shinovi due to it being based on Estival's engine, which in and of itself plays like a clunky mess compared to any other action game in the series. Otherwise, parries are executed much better and the difficulty is tighter, close to Burst levels I'd say. If you have a Japanese PSN I'd say give the demo for Renewal a try on PS4. Otherwise, you're more or less good.
