Which is the best zelda game and why is it Wind Waker
Which is the best zelda game and why is it Wind Waker
The real question is which Link has the best character design?
My vote goes to OoT Adult Link. That white tunic collar and hairstyle look 10/10 in the OP pic.
>went outside
>got a sunburn
what do I do bros
I don't want skin cancer
This is what I get for not gaming
A Link to the Past.
Wind Waker will always be my favorite one.
I also love a link between worlds but I wish it wasn't as short.
I'd say A Link to the Past is THE Zelda game. It established a huge amount of the things considered staple to the series, established the ongoing mythos that the series has to this day, and is a fucking outstanding game. I understand why it's your personal favourite Zelda game. What puts it over, say, A Link Between Worlds in your mind though? Just curious.
They all look pretty good, however the in-game models for TP, SS, and Hyrule Warriors look like absolute shit compared to the artwork. They really fucked up the noses and lips.
Because it has the highest SPS of any zelda
SS
SS
>pants
>chainmail
>excellent hat
just put water on the burn
Majora's Mask Link looks badass in this picture. I love how they made him look all shadowy just like the art style of MM too. Very cool.
>Skyward Sword Link has actual pants and chainmail
How the fuck did I only just realise this? It's a great design choice
Pacing, difficulty curve, art direction. A Link Between Worlds is a very good game (I ended up having a better time with it than I would with Breath of the Wild, which I did not at all expect) but it's held back a lot by its supremely bland visuals and its debt to A Link to the Past.
SS especially looks like shit compared to the artwork. The model itself is honestly fine, it just looks garbage when compared to the top tier character artwork that the game has.
TP's artwork has a much more regal and impressive looking Link than the actual character model. It's pretty disappointing.
The original designs and ALTTP's are probably my favorites, but I like Ocarina of Time's a lot too. My issue with TP's, SS's, and BotW's is how thick they lay on the androgynous femme-boy thing. TP's design looks good in the art work, but the character model itself looks off in an unsettling way. Also note that the main design beats of all of these have a lot in common. I miss the unpredictability we had going from the original/ALTTP to Ocarina of Time to Wind Waker. They've settled on their cute blonde twink and refuse to budge from it now.
It never bothered me as a kid but lately I can't help but notice how bad they fucked up the faces of everyone in that game. Granted sometimes I remember them looking worse than they actually are due to awful SFM shit that gets posted around here but still
OP, no offense, but you're fucking retarded. Having 95% of the map be empty ocean is not fun. Having just about every island on said map be some filler crap is not fun. The controls suck ass too. I know that a lot of people hate on WW for its graphical style, but I don't mind it. I hate WW because it's unironically a shitty game. Exploration and dungeons make up the core of a Zelda game. Exploration sucks because the map is bloated and sailing around is a pain in the ass, and the dungeons are just decent.
You want a good Zelda game, look at A Link Between Worlds. Map is great to explore, with shit like baby Maiamai and heart pieces to find in just about every segment, and the map itself is dense, not enough that it feels claustrophobic but enough that it's a pleasure to explore and find all the little secrets. The dungeons in ALBW are by far the best in the series, especially the Ice Ruins. They're creative with their formatting. I was thinking of playing some Wind Waker HD tonight because I need a break from SMT IV but now I'm gonna play Twilight Princess HD or maybe Xenoblade Chronicles X just to spite you OP
I like Ocarina of Time's because of how masculine of a direction they went with him. He's got that in common with TP Link (artwork), they're both classically handsome young men and are a far cry from both cute little boy types like Oracle and WW Link and androgynous types like BotW Link.
A Link to the Past Link seems to be a perfect middle ground in terms of designs. Unmistakeably masculine, yet boyish-looking at the same time, with an only somewhat cartoony style.
> I miss the unpredictability we had going from the original/ALTTP to Ocarina of Time to Wind Waker. They've settled on their cute blonde twink and refuse to budge from it now.
I really agree. The whole "Wow that guy sure is pretty, actually is he a guy?" thing that BotW did was an interesting change but I really hope they switch from it with the game after the sequel. I want something completely fresh.
>I was thinking of playing Wind Waker until someone on Yea Forums said they liked it
No offense, but you have a fucking issue
A Link Between Worlds has got to be the ultimate taste filter for fans of the series, or at least the 2D games. You can dislike or like a game as much as you want, but ALBW is objectively fantastically designed.
OoT Link started the whole pretty boy thing. He has that awful 90's boyband hair, anime eyes and earrings. He's clearly a dude but I don't think he's any more or less masculine than BotW Link.
The one thing OoT Link has going for him is that his character models in most games resembles his artwork and they didn't fuck it up like TP and SS
Oracle of Ages/Seasons Link is super underrated.
NES, ALttP, and Toon Link
Almost every Link is very well designed, but some of the more recent 3D games fuck up his model compared to the artwork.
BOTW.
>OoT Link started the whole pretty boy thing
Sure, I can agree there. You could tell that OoT Link is the beginning of a trend, but as an example on his own, I wouldn't describe him as a 'pretty boy'.
>He's clearly a dude but I don't think he's any more or less masculine than BotW Link.
What the fuck? Dude's face is way more defined and less feminine than BotW Link's. His eyebrows are thicker, his face is more angular, his nose is more prominent, etc.
Ocarina of Time. Matched by Breath of the Wild. Twilight Princess just a bit behind.
Majora and Wind Waker are overrated but still great games. A Link to the Past is better than both.
Skyward Sword is ass.
I already have it and I'm maybe 10 hours in, the question was whether I was gonna play it a bit tonight or play something else
My nigga. Which dungeon is your favorite? I already said mine is the Ice Ruins, but the Swamp Palace is great too
OoT Link came about because the artists wife told him to make Link prettier. That with the aforementioned hair/earrings is about as prettyboy as it gets. I don't dislike OoT Link's design but it is what it is.
>Face is more defined
He has the classic Link nose, but his eyes are definitely more feminine. OoT Link looks like someone who took his time to do his hair and shit. BotW Link looks like a dorky teenager who just rolled out of bed. The only thing that really strikes me as feminine about BotW Link is the awful ponytail but even that looks ratty/unkempt.
OoT Link however looks far more masculine in-game compared to his artwork, as opposed to HW Link who looks like a woman in-game but a dude in artwork.
Probably the Thieves' Hideout. Less because of the design/puzzles themselves but because of the entire gimmick of the dungeon being an escort mission, the music, and the fact that such a fresh idea was established right after you enter Lorule. I was basically on a high as I was playing it and having a lot of fun.
TP Link, he made that shit not gay.
This one
>BotW Link looks like a dorky teenager
A teenage girl. Your picture is really just proving his point. OoT definitely has a sharper look to his features (in the art and in the game both) that convey a harder edge.
TP, but I also really love ALBW Link
>Teenage girl
Maybe you're just into Link. He looks like he's going through that awkward/doughy phase
Meanwhile check out the makeup/mascara going on with OoT Link's eyes here
Dude, he looks way more feminine. I don't know what to tell you, it should be obvious based on the screenshot that you provided. His face is oval-shaped, his eyes are softer-looking, his nose is smaller and rounder, and when the game was initially revealed, much of the fanbase thought Link was a woman this time.
That doesn't matter. On the whole, OoT Link definitely looks more masculine even if he's decidedly more pretty than previous Links. Breath of the Wild is soft and androgynous looking (by design).
What the fuck happened to him bros, why was he so soulless?
Thieves' hideout was great, especially going through most of it solo and then having to go through it again mostly the same but now with the girl in tow. Bonus points that they made the female version of the guy in Hyrule who stole the Zora orb
Honestly every single dungeon in Lorule is spectacular
Cliche answer but I can't deny it anymore.
Thieve's Hideout for making me enjoy an escort mission in a Zelda game
Agree with both of these as well
Unironically SS Link for me, and I hated that game.
>Face is oval shaped
So no pointy anime girl chin
>Eyes are soft looking
So no mascara
It's okay user. I'm not blaming Ocarina Link for his faggy makeup and earrings, it was probably creepy ass Rauru who put them on while he was sleeping for seven years, but the nigga just doesn't look more manly than any other 3D Link.
>he made that shit not gay.
Lorule Castle was also a standout moment. Clearing the four rooms and having the music swell in intensity with every room cleared, the great plot twist that Hilda was using you the whole time and Yuga was using her, the final boss music having that amazingly kino intro from A Link to the Past, the way the plot resolves itself, the entire endgame was phenomenal and I came out of ALBW ridiculously satisfied.
>I'm not blaming Ocarina Link for his faggy makeup and earrings
You realize that BotW Link also has earrings, right?
>but the nigga just doesn't look more manly than any other 3D Link.
You are delusional.
>A Link Between Worlds has got to be the ultimate taste filter for fans of the series, or at least the 2D games.
It's a great game but I wish it didn't look so bland and didn't borrow so much from ALTTP. It's still probably a top 5 game in the series for me, though.
Yee, the last good Link.
t. Ocarina of Time Link
I'd argue it's four swords.
>So no pointy anime girl chin
You're really stretching now.
>So no mascara
Jesus.
>I'm not blaming Ocarina Link for his faggy makeup and earrings
BotW Link literally wears an earring as well. You could present this comparison to 10 people and all of them would agree that BotW Link is prettier and more feminine looking. His face, like the other user said, lacks the harder edges and angles of OoT Link's face. It's by design and clearly what they were going for. Now just because he's cuter looking and has a more feminine looking face, doesn't mean HE'S any less masculine in his mannerisms and behaviour. It's not a knock on anybody. You could say I have a less masculine looking face than X guy and I'd agree if his face had a more 'rugged' look to it compared to mine like OoT's does compared to BotW.
You can argue all you want about hard edges but he looks no more masculine and was purposely designed to be androgynous as well. I never said BotW Link was more manly and I realize he has the retarded earrings as well but saying OoT Link is more masculine in any regard other than the fact that he's a bit older and thus has more muscle definition is silly.
Admittedly I was being a smartass with posts but I'll end it here, because all Links are inferior to ALttP Link.
Game linked Oracle of Ages and Seasons
>You can make as many arguments you want about the way a person's face literally looks but that has nothing to do with how masculine or feminine a face is
>He is not any more or less masculine looking because I dismissed your arguments
This is not good discourse and yes you were being a smartass lol. Glad you acknowledged that.
Totally agree. So much thought and care went into this game. When I first saw the commercials for it back in like 2013 I thought it looked like a soulless cashgrab. I'm glad I was wrong because it ended up being the best 2D Zelda (and arguably the best Zelda, period)
Both Oracle games as one whole, is my favorite Zelda, and the best looking Link is Hyrule Warriors.
I'm not really trying to be dismissive as much as I just disagree with some of the perceptions. To be honest, if he started off with literally ANY other picture of OoT Link I wouldn't have started joking about him being girly looking. His character models don't look too pretty boyish, and the art from the 3DS remake doesn't at all.
>ALBW
I really should play that, it's been sitting there on my 3DS.
Not that user but I agree, ALBW is easily my favorite 2D Zelda game and just reading this thread makes me want to play through it again for the 4th or 5th time
I always hated that nose.
I hope the reason they haven't done a quick, lazy port of TP and SS to Switch is because they're fixing those fucking Link models.
You won't regret it, it's so much fun. I honestly liked it more than BOTW
go for it, one of my favorite things about it is how you can pretty much tackle the dungeons in any order you want. I just beat it for the third time (second time in hero mode)
If you like Zelda you should definitely play it. The world, dungeons, and progression are all spectacular
It's way more snub than in the artwork. He looks like a completely different person.
TP is just bad design overall. Even the animations, I was comparing them to n64 Zelda and tP is inferior
Have you guys tried playing BotW 2? That sequel is even better than the first game. You can even co-op with a friend locally. One plays Link and the other, Zelda. The only thing that's bad about the multiplayer aspect is that you and your friend must own a switch and a copy of the game. Also, both switches need to share the same internet connection. Fuck Nintendo and their shitty online service.
If I can fit it in before the LA remake is out, I definitely will do it
You can do it. I'm going BotW 100% on regular and Master Mode before LA.
That's true, I likely will be able to play through it and ALTTP before September rolls around. Will definitely do them both ASAP
I beat it 100% in 3 days. I played all day each day, but you should still be able to finish it
Nice art too
Does playing ALttP make a difference?
That's true, I forget how short it is.
The main similarity is that the map of Hyrule is identical in both games, but you can play either one first and get a good experience
No, but you should play ALttP anyway because it's great. ALBW does borrow a lot from ALttP, though, including the map, and Lorule is effectively a relabeled Dark World.
Hyrule Warriors for best combat
There are plenty of differences, don't forget
There are, but not as many as there should have been. ALBW's origins as a ALttP remake hurt it.
This fanbase was just looking to bitch about something as usual.
ALBW is one of my favorite games in the series, easily a top 5 for me overall. It still borrows too much from ALttP. It's not just something to bitch about; it's a major part of the game's identity and it holds it back.
