To be fair, they did change potencies on a lot of their stuff. The entire Fang-Continuation combo had every step get buffed, Sonic Break was buffed a lot, and Blasting Zone got a bit more potency.

Around 36-40 there's first a long ass stretch of super boring shit, followed by pretty damn good stuff. Then you're back in irrelevant boring shit until 50, when shit gets real - for a couple of hours. After that it's a shitload of slow boring buildup, with a great payoff at the end of ARR patch quests and the beginning of Heavensward.
Most of HW continues to be good, then it's time for Stormblood which is shit, then Shadowbringers which is the best so far.

They all play a role. But SCH and AST will never out dps a WHM. At the same time, WHM does not have the utility those have. It's a trade off.

Potency buffs is the easy way out.
But I'd rather them wait a bit for people to really understand the job before making decisions on nerfs/buffs.

If you can't see the vast structural differences in how WoW and FF14 operate then you're blind.

FF14 doesn't separate the game into "the end game" and "everything else" you're doing productive stuff all the time which comes with you to max level from as early as level 20ish.

WoW's gearing has also become a mix of grindfest and RNGfest, with the addition of Titanforging, and random traits. This was done to design a system where you would always have upgrades and thus be compelled to keep going, FF14 doesn't do anything remotely like this.

Vanilla did have you being personally chosen for secret missions by faction heads at around level 10. See Thrall and the Ragefire Chasm quests.

MMOs worth their salt have always had sub fees. It's what guarantees a consistent stream of content. All those F2P/B2P MMOs have garbage content schedules or they find ways to jew you harder through game mechanics (earn less exp, loot drops less often, can't trade with other players, etc)

If you're serious, expansion is really good assuming you actually pay attention to the story. BLM is probably your best bet on job, RDM is good just didn't get anything too interesting. As someone who played NIN as first job I would say pick something else unless you really like its aesthetic, dps feels low for how much shit you have to do.

It goes well with some of the minimalist or modern looking glamours though.

Why play a game not even meant for you?
If you're not enjoying the story early on, how can you enjoy it later on? Everything that's "bad" stays along for the ride. It just gets better.

I'm a JRPG enthusiast and it even turned me off. The story isn't compelling at all in ARR.

If savage fights are hard enough that constant healing is required like they said it will mean that white mage damage will plummet. Right now they can get away with it because scholar can just solo heal the two extremes and white mage has nothing to do. They could have at least removed the middle puddles during Titania so one aoe isn't enough to heal both stacks since they would both be in corners.

People are swayed easily and think every game is for everyone so they force themselves instead of just saying "the game isn't for me".

ARR is a slog. There is a shit ton of content that can be streamlined but isn't. Along with a shit ton of interesting stuff at the end of ARR going into HW that is stuck behind padding.

The quests also frankly suck shit even when you get the few good ones. The MSQ dungeons at the ass end are so bad that they literally have to bribe players with almost all of their experience in levels to get them to do them. The mechanics surrounding every ARR dungeon with the exception of Qarn, AV, and SV are all retard baby simple. Only 2.4 and 2.5 makes it feel like you're playing the game.

There's simply too much filler shit. That barrier alone is the only reason I can't recommend the game. And until such a point that they make a ARR skip potion inclusive with every copy of every expansion moving forward I simply can not recommend this game ever. No matter how much I love HW and ShB you still have to go through ARR to get there.

I guess. It was simple and straightforward for me. Little twist and turns and learning about the lore was cool too.

i've played very few jrpgs, and have tried dozens of MMOs and abandoned each and every one around level 20 or so at the most, but 14 hooked me pretty much from the word go. it's the only mmo i've played that had a decent new player experience to ease you in and has the most immersive world of any mmo i've tried by far. powered through ARR in about two weeks of playing pretty casually.

So in total you spend $35 and you start at HW with 30 days of gametime. that's less money you pay for a 3DS game

I also forgot to mention that you can't JUST skip ARR. You skip HW too. And the only reason you want to skip ARR is to get into HW. HW is also the better entry level expansion to teach idiots mechanics. Which they now don't have and have to go through ShB's shitty dungeons that would require literal brain damage to fail.

You've got no skills, you have huge ass xp walls. And to join with your friends or at least get into dungeons they can be assed to do you not only have to beat ARR. But beat close to 100 extra missions after that. It's awful. A mistake that they are aware of because no other expansion gates you this hard ever again.
