The game is littered with small, personal stories of the many employees who work at the Talos 1 station. The main story will feel pretty generic until the ending.

I still fail to see the issue with this. Especially considering that the player being a Typhon is part of the equation, the other being the fact that the entire point of the game was teaching the Typhon, ie you, the concept of empathy and how every action you made in the simulation reflects this.

Because it adds nothing to the actual gameplay so it had no need of being there.
I love the game, I bought it and I still play it occasionally.
I just don't think the story is good or interesting.

Since when does the story add to the gameplay? If you separate the two to that degree then you shouldn't care about the story in any capacity. SS2 was hurt by the fact that its ending was not only retarded but also how everything you did was for nothing because Shodan escaped yet again to do the same shit in SS3.
