Would Half Life 2 have been better if it stayed on the goldsrc engine?
beta stuff is pretty cool tbqh senpai
It's just a shame everyone in the beta community is retarded though. Everyone down from Jackathan to the basic bitch who only knows about the 1999-2001 periods.
Free Tv for everyone, go get it:

why is there so much fucking baby porn
the game would have been way better as the beta, retarded leaker ruined it for everybody
Dark Interval seems to be making the most progress
Thanks for the RATs
not clicking that shit
no he didn't. all that stuff had been thrown out already.
Valve still decided on the modern HL2 aesthetic by 2003 though. I doubt that even if it wasn't leaked that HL2 would have been much different. Maybe even worse because they wouldn't have had community feedback.
It is but Cvox is fucking weird with lore so I don't expect a whole lot of it being right.
I think I recall him saying at one point that Portal 2 did in fact take place 999999 years in the future because the broken glitchy announcer had a glitch, but it must've just been saying it's correct thing right?
He's retarded sometimes, most Russians are.
Leaker didn't do much, you can see that most of the maps in the leak actually are from the story we know now. By 2003 pretty much everything was gone from the original story.
the HL2 leak did nothing. What you're interested in was already scrapped long before E3 2003.
Holy fuck actual CP on there, no one click on it, hopefully the mods take it down.
Well, if Dark Interval does get finished i'm sure other modders will be all over it to make corrections to it. I feel as if these HL2 beta mods would have more success being on Goldsrc then trying to make it in source.
>download this on linux and run unzip -l on it
>literally an .exe
who the fuck would fall for that
Did you scan it?

Why you have to ruin showing idiocy of Yea Forums?
Well, I know Hyper is going to be on Goldsrc. It focuses on the Hyper Era.
Most of the beta mods I see for Goldsrc are all just HL1 beta. Absolute Zero is the closest we've gotten to a released one and even then they were almost fucked by Giggle Horse because of copyright tomfuckery and Bolloxed with his racist blackmail.
(Bolloxed is a shit eating pervert, pedophile, racist by the way. I'm not even making any of that up. Literally dox'd a 17 year old for running his archive with all of Bolloxed's internet bullshit. Tried to get him to kill himself and hacked into his Discord and leaked everything.
Fuck Bolloxed. Side tangent over.)
50,000
Beta Mods are fucked.
SHAFT got cancelled.
Rainfall is good af but is on hiatus while Jane makes Starlight (which looks really good so far.)
Alpha in GoldSrc is just that.
In Deep is never coming out and Jackathan tries to keep it alive so he can get more press by saying it will.
Hyper has been shut down and restarted a few times with the latest one being kinda quiet.
Dark Interval is great, but slow to update.
Raising the Bar: Redux is a shit show and they got so much backlash from all of their shitty updates that they stopped posting updates to Moddb. (They had their mod leaked and it's just beta maps stitched together and fixed up.)
Terminus looked good and it's dev build was good but never got finished.
Insolence sucked but a few maps were good.
Vertigo is a great map pack.
Depot is a great map pack.
Cremation is the best looking and closest beta mod even if it has a weird gameplay system of almost 1 hit kills.
Mission Information is great but they're not updating it or adding anything new to the Steam release like they promised originally, also multiple maps based on artwork were never finished.
Oldschool Story was alright I didn't play it much.
There's also like fucking 5 patches and fixes for the actual beta and then there's the megapatch.
Alex Project brought the beta into a newer version of Source but only fixed the E3 maps.
LeakNet is fine.
Yeah, makes me worried how the Half Life Episode 3 mods are going to be handled. These HL2 beta mods typically don't have enough direction that's needed to make what is essentially a full game. Direction and Reference is what has kept BMS and OBM to keep going and the Beta mods typically don't have either.
business idea: a mod that merges all of HL2 together into one cohesive campaign
Do you mean ALL of half life 2 or just attach Episode 1 and 2 to retail Half life 2 to have a seamless experience?
Episode 3 mods are kinda iffy.
Arctic Adventures was this years HDTF. It released on Steam for free but was awful. I remember it being in development when I wasn't even that into HL and from what I gather they didn't do anything to it except port it to the latest engine. 6 entire maps of broken maps, code, enemies, and everything. Hell, I made a review of all the stolen stuff in the mod (some of which go far above illegal than what HDTF got to.)
The Closure I haven't played, but from what I heard it was meh.
There was this single map in a Planet Philip contest that looked amazing as hell, set in the Antarctic with only a bit of Borealis.
Boreal Alpyh looks fine but they don't post updates a bunch.
Project Borealis is iffy to me, on one hand they can do a shit ton more with Unreal and they made it play exactly the same, but at the same time it's gonna lose that Source charm a lot of mods did. Garry's Mod Tower and Estranged are mods I can say did the transition well, but were rocky at first. GMT did better since it wasn't needing a lot of HL2 assets, but Estranged still feels weird to me.
In Source I felt like everything was solid stone, that everything was hard to move and shit. With Unreal Engine I can't help but feel like everything is plastic.
i mean a mod that merges HL2 and its episodes. some map editing would be in order.
you'd probably have to edit parts of the ep1 intro out because having a cutscene in the middle of the game would be jarring.
Nah, I think it'd work fine, just have the explosion effect seem the same like in the normal game, but show the Vorts coming in mid G-Man talk with him only noticing at the end and using the "Well, shit." line that got leaked out before looking at Gordon, screen going black with the explosion sound, and then the episode starting.
I feel like something like that would have been done already but I can't think of a specific mod.
All they'd need to do is port HL2 and Ep. 1 into the Episode 2 version of the engine then edit maps to link them all together.
that was source
but the game would have been better if it kept the beta vision
the fuck are you guys talking about, some sorta boomer bullshit?
Cinematic mod (yeah i know) ports them all to Episode 2 but didn't do that
Nope
Cinematic Mod isn't that bad honestly.
Everyone misinterprets what the mod's goal was, it wasn't a remake of the game with the original themes of the game, it was just to make it like a Micheal Bay film (thus why Alyx usually looks like Megan Foxx.)
Yeah, the dildos in Alyx's room, Dickbutt graffiti, porno mags as a clutter thing on the wall, FULLY MODELED, etc are really out of place, but overall I like the mod. Just hate that it's too big to download without a torrent.
i don't get how hl2 beta is so much more interesting and varied than retail. valve sucks at making games.
I think grafix got in the way. Whats the point of having varied gameplay and atmosphere when you can punt objects at the same combine soldier with your cool physics gun.
it's more because they put what was the most polished into the game because they couldn't keep delaying it
levels like the air exchange were cool settings, but the level itself is pretty mediocre & needed to be reworked, so it just got scrapped to make the 2004 release date
Is that why the Episodes seem to be better? They could make the date they wanted
Somewhat yeah, the episodes use scrapped content too
Episodes use some stuff from the beta, but most of it's quality is due to them actually delaying it and having 2 separate teams for it.
Why does valve always have interesting betas?
thats their target audience
