It's more about how all the Sons of Dio are fated to be huge fucking losers and Giorno was following the same path as them until he encountered the gangster. His ambition to become a gangstar is what saved him in the end, similar to how Rikiel gained confidence after Pucci showed him Sky High and sought to become "like Apollo 11". The fact that Giorno is also not like Dio or Jonathan despite being their son also ties in with one of the fundamental themes of part 5, overcoming your past and not letting it define you. There is a purpose to Giorno being Dio's son, but you have to think about it in the context of Jojo's ideas in general.
