ITT: We discuss obscure, hidden gem games to check out during the Steam sale (or to just pirate).
Hidden gems thread
For me it's conquistador.

I'd say it's hidden and I'm a sucker for arcade shooters
Exoder - Hardcore arcade platformer aka IceClimber + They Bleed Pixels with weird arstyle that reminds Abadox and R-Type. Cool music and bosses.
Nongunz - obscure and VERY cryptic roguelite with cool shooting mechanics but kinda boring levels. Still has its own gothic charm + atmospheric western gothic soundtrack.
Cthon - oldschool murky shooter+roguelite in vein of Zero Tolerance and System shock. Slow, meditative, atmospheric and hard as fuck. Also, lovecraftian, but without tentacles and cthulhu shit - more in cosmic/eldritch horror way. The soundtrack is pure masterpiece.
Love Ribbon - VN, yuri + incest (true incest, no cheating stepsisters), animated CG. Unfortunately, without voice acting, but the scenes are hot af
the last hex
pretty much a rougher looking but more fun slay the spire
is this gem hidden enough?
Those who like edgy gore+bloody aesthetics, gonna check this out.
This fucking game blew my mind. I don't understand how it's not more popular.

how pedestrian
What happened to mineral user?

Yuppie Psycho was an interesting game. Relatively short though.
Its sort of like lone survivor meets office space.
This. It's just 2D DMC. Fun fucking game.
It's expensive as fuck, is it really worth it?
I just bought this for like 2$ simply because long ago as a kid I read review of it and I thought it looks cool. Don't know what I am up too beside the fact that it's RE clone.
Also I am thinking about getting Quake 1&2 or Turok 2 because lately I have a thing for late 90's/early 2000's shooters and I haven't yet played these titles. Or getting Worms 3d simply because of nostalgia
Core of Innocence
It's a neat little metroidvania, but finding a download is pretty hard
This one is a pretty neat idea.
You control drones to explore abandoned vessels.
You can do most of the gameplay from a "system view" where you input commands into the console and the drones do it themselves, though you can always manually pilot them, since the drones don't have built in AI as they'll just do the specific command you tell them, bumping into eachother and so on.
You have slots to fit your drones with "abilities" that can do various things like power a core, interface with an uh interface, drag something, collect material and so on. You can put all the abilities on one drone too but that's not very effective as some (like powering a core) requires them to remain stationary.
There are also aliens on these vessels that can kill your drones, you can either lock them off and airlock launch them into space, or kill them with mines. They wreck your drone pretty fast.
It has a "rogue-lite" feel to it since if you lose all your drones then all you can really do is just restart and try again.
Requiem: Avenging Angel - a damn great old school shooter with some cool angelic powers and weapons that feel great
Darkness Within 1&2 - a climatic lovecraftian point'n'click games that doesn't use jump scares, but rather rely on dense atmosphere
Im sure you could find it for 'cheaper' somewhere.
Creeper World 3.
Unique gameplay where the enemy is flowing liquid that destroys everything on contact and you have to defend your base from it. The game has basically an infinite amount of content, not only is there a campaign/story mode, but also an advanced level editor with thousands of community-made levels. Hell, you can even make the game generate as many maps/levels as you want and play them.
It's 67% off and costs around 5$ right now. There's also a demo if you google it.

can confirm extreamly fun for some reason.
Avadon and Avernum trilogies. Behind the simple graphics are some very enjoyable RPGs with fun combat and some great writing.
i think part 4 is in the making
there are progress updates on youtube and its in 3d now
Sherlock Holmes games which I discovered recently
One of the GameCube's very best. And one of my favorite games ever made.
Tactical Shmup with a lot of customization,
You're given a pool of money to spend on your ship to explore derelict capital ships, it involves deactivating each of their defense modules in the order you choose before blowing up the core, salvage it all for money and move on to the next one.
It's fucking great if a bit too easy.

Darkwood
DROD RPG Tendry's tale.
It's very similar to Magic Tower but with DROD
Kingdoms of Amalur:Reckoning is fun
Aztez is a really neat action/civ game

Ace of Seafood. You explore the reef killing fish and gathering their DNA so you can make bigger and stronger fish to conquer the reefs.
Then after you beat the main story, other fish start invading your reefs.
Also all your fish can fire lasers for some reason
>Kingdoms of Amalur:Reckonin
I heard a lot of people complaing that this game feels like a single-player MMO
and inb4 yeah I know the troubling history behind this title
>mfw going through the first night at a new location
The atmosphere in this game man
deception IV
dont play it
Dont get the Steam versions of Quake, either use the source ports or the GoG versions that come with the OST
>DROD
yes
It is definitely a single player MMO, but in a good way if you're into that sort of thing.
I recc'd that to user a couple days ago. good to see another holmes game fan.
comfy game to play while watchin anime or some shit. semi idle rpg where you go on quests, build up your town, etc. $4.99

A lot of ones for me were originally contest entries, gamejam builds, or freeware. Or are sequels to freeware. More well known examples include La-Mulana, Cave Story, and... unfortunately the meh remake of Treasure Adventure Game.
A couple examples of such on sale include Last Word, Ninja Senki DX, Super Skelemania, and Why Am I Dead At Sea.
As for non-remake/sequel/whatever there's things like Shadows of Adam and Windscape.
I remember playing this back in the day. Its a shameless RE4 clone, but its actually decent. It makes me appreciate it more in retrospect. Esscentially, its Resident evil: revelations before Resident evil: revelations.
Are you trying to pull some reverse psychology, user?
This series looks interesting.
Which one should I get?
you're losing money by not getting this bundle
Funky ost
