I think it depends on the ratio of clears to attempts. Those with high attempts but low clear rates are likely to be put in Expert/Super Expert. There's no way to tell aside from actually encountering your level in the Endless runs, as far as I know.

Other people can download your course, look at it in their coursebot, click on more info and then see the exact difficulty your course is in right now.
You can't. For some reason.

Initially the difficulty is judged based on your own performance when uploading the course, but is quickly adjusted towards "how many people loaded the level vs how many cleared it" while also looking at how many times they died.

The clear rate % shown on a stage can be misleading, as you could see a stage with a clear rate of 5% but still have it be in easy cause the vast majority of those failed attempts are just resets or deaths by people trying for world record.

Its a cool gimmick, gave it a like yesterday I think

I made a level that's fun to speed run, with over 900 attempts but barely coming up on 20 clears. Your level just had to be fun and engaging, without stupid gimmicks like "go in 5 pipes and collect a key coin in each".

It's so weird how the future 2d games don't have that feature, feels so natural to me

First course, trying to get a hang of things. Still a bit disappointed by how many features from Super Mario World are missing.

Why are so many enemies missing? Fire bros, fire snakes, pokies, those jumping blocks with mini goombas in them, the paragoombas that cuck your jump with their babies, the nigger paragoombas...

In the case of my level, if they spent 10 seconds actually looking at the level, they'd realize that they'd lose your fucking mushroom almost instantly in any of the hard sections. And anyway, there was a checkpoint before every hard section, so I'm not sure where all the griping was coming from. So annoying.

t. made some endurance course that takes 3 mins to speedrun with tons of trump jumps and other bs without checkpoints and gets salty when people don't want to bother

I try to take a step back and simply ask myself 'did I just have fun?' without overanalyzing the level, and like it if I did. If I have a criticism I always post a comment saying so, though always framed with some variation of 'but other than that, this was good!'. If I simply didn't enjoy a level I neither like nor boo. I only boo if the level seems to have been deliberately made to be unfair.

That's understandable. I wish there was a feature for groups or something that just had levels from the members so you could just randomly pick from there. It'd also skip the cumbersome task of having to enter a code each time.

Bit Crusade 3 is the sequel to the two full games (1-1 to 8-4) I created within Mario Maker 1, reminiscent of traditional Mario levels, and (eventually) utilizing all 5 game styles. Meant to be played in sequence as an adventure game, starting at the 1-1. There's secrets to find, alternative pathways and other goodies as well. Try to find all 5 Power Pepperonis hidden in each stage to access the super secret bonus room at the end of each level.

I've had no problems using the docked controls to create levels. Stylus makes things easier but I think people are overreacting to how bad docked is.

Did you know you could move Mario via touchpad while in Play mode of your own levels?
That way you can skip over unfinished sections without needing to go into Build mode and back

Your level would be easier without the checkpoint, there's no powerups after the checkpoint, so the boss is harder than it should be.

Also, using magikoopa, I managed to escape the bossroom, and cheese the boss that way

A short but difficult course of maneuvering around poison mushrooms and quick reacting

I wanted to make a Jurassic Park style chase scene, like you're running from TRex Bowser in the jeep, and he's crashing through stuff. Also a "trick" door where you enter the bathroom, and are summarily eaten. But I just don't seem to have the skills to pull it off in any good way. Custom scrolling is weird, Bowser is too fast or too slow, the rails make him feel lifeless, 3d world with the car doesn't have rails to put Bowser on, can't make him break through things, etc. Think it's a fun concept, but just can't seem to put it together.

If it has a clear rate of 1,5% and people cannot even get halfway through then apparently its too hard, and too many enemies can be a reason for that. I didnt realise you cannot update your courses so it had to be removed for now. I wouldnt count on me being able to make a fun level but maybe I'll try again later.

I played the space one, the only thing I can really say about your levels is that they aren't well thought out at all. Bosses especially.

Nighttime airship makes the enemies have low gravity but mario’s physics remain unchanged. Can anything interesting be done with this?

Hit a block with Mario and somewhere else on the stage a different block or a p-switch gets triggered
Preferably with an adjustable delay, in other themes I would have Mario hit a ? block which spawn a shell that gets boosted by a spring and then travels down a little path until it hits another block

So basically Mario hitting the block is an input, the shell traveling is the processing of the input and the next block being hit is the output
Of course it doesn't have to be a shell, sending off a platform on tracks can accomplish the same thing
But not in 3D World

I made a SMB2 1-1 in the second game I made in MM1, it was the 5-1 of that game and it was set up as a dream sequence after falling down a pit at the end of 4-4. The level was played straight until the end where you'd go into the eagles mouth, then a trap springs and 3 Giant Bowsers drop out of the sky and you'd have to run away until you "woke up" at the bottom of some conveyor belts, where the real world 5 starts, the Machine Zone. Tempted to do something similar again this time but I haven't decided yet/still holding out for moar upload slots.

Solid stage man. Felt like your crammed something neat into every corner of the map and the layout itself is fun to navigate, open but not really confusing. Spent a good 2 minutes trying to find the last red coin before I noticed the gust bellows at the start. Great jorb, gonna play some of your other stuff too and follow as well.

One: If you rapid hit the on off stitch you can just kill the two homing bill walls before the fall.

Two: Even if you dont kill them I still only got one on my platform.

Hey guys good news the "new courses" queue is coming closer and closer to catching up to real time.
People made so many levels in the first week it was backlogged for ages.
Right now new courses is showing stages made on July 4th. I think within some ~3 days the queue will have caught up and then your newly made courses will actually show up in new right away and you'll be able to get plays without having to shill it

I like the concept but the execution is brought down by the boo's. When I'm trying to figure out which paths are platforms are safe and which are not I don't want to have to baby sit a boo so he doesn't kill me. I'd either remove some clutter or ditch the boo's.

I made a course on my switch account, and my roommate played it on his switch account (same switch), but he is unable to give it a star or boo it, and his completion did not count towards number of times completed, nor does it show that anybody has played it at all.

I played it, pretty nice. There are a few areas where it's a little rough around the edges, like the giant red spike dudes on the mushroom platforms are out of sync, so if you fall a couple of times you have to wait around for them to sync up again. Pink coins were a nice touch.

Yeah they're meant to be annoying, otherwise it's a little too easy. I'm not sure where you're getting that 4 minutes from though, it still has a 0% clear rate?

The base idea is nice, but you really aught to remove the boos and spikes. Having boos chase you while trying to navigate the already confusing confusing one-way maze extremely annoying. In general you don't want puzzle levels to have hazards that aren't directly related to the puzzle.
Did you know that activating a second checkpoint resets the first one? If you place a checkpoints in the main and sub-worlds, the player could save their red coin progress whenever they switch areas.

Hold the opposite direction when emerging from the clear pipe and jump to automatically wall kick out of the clear pipes. You don't have to wall kick off the red blocks when emerging, but you need them there to bounce you back.

Man that would be pretty cool, I feel like you'd have to break it into chunks though. There's so many memorable screens in MGS1, they couldn't all be done in one map. Maybe break them up into a couple levels and call them Disc 1, 2, etc.
I did think about MGS myself too during the stealth mission in Story Mode.

user, this is a pretty annoying level. It's difficult but not in a good way. Unless I'm missing something, I had to wait for the skull koopas to come out of the ice tunnel thing so I could fit through. Don't make people wait that long for no reason. You have way too many hammer bros just added all over the place for extra difficulty. The bowser fight is extremely lame if you lose your fireflower. I know you're supposed to try to make the icicles fall on him but can jump up to the right where the door is and just sit there forever.

I forced myself to finish it and gave you a like, but just keep some of those things in mind for your next level.

I'm not really interested in the money, but the hidden room seems fun.

also, when you're jumping from the first area to the area with the two giant sideways thwomps and the buzzy beetle stack, how come the right solution is some weird shit where you get damaged and jump across with i-frames and not just a plain old super jump, which doesn't work

I've done that a few times. I'm not amazing at levels and if it's a good level, but too hard for me while not unfair or has cool gimmicks or design, I'll like it. Don't have to be able to beat it to see it's cool, well done, or had a lot of thought/effort into it.

That was a good level, it's clear you put a lot of care into it! Spent a bit of time trying to get into Patrick's secret basement(used a spring from Spongebob's house) before I realized it was a softlock prevention system.
I however would like to know the lore implications behind Patrick having the key to Squidward's house...

Remake of the first DKC level. Had to change it up a little obviously.

Yoshi is in a hidden block above the 1st set of ? blocks near the start
The P switch is found by jumping into the shell above the piranha plants, Yoshi is needed to reach it
No idea about the red pipe behind the goal

Spent 2-3 hours trying to beat this I think I’m really bad

What the fuck is up with BoomBoom? That has to be the shittiest enemy in the game. His movement pattern is absolutely retarded, and he puts spikes out at the most random intervals. Seriously is this fucker just an RNG fest or is there some shit I'm missing here?

3D world BoomBoom is not much better. Seriously, turning invisible is a dumb boring mechanic that makes absolutely no sense in Mario

In which style? He's entirely predictable and easy in SMB and SMB3 style at least, not sure about SMW and NSMB.

Explain

Here's a small building tip.

A lot of levels that open up and immediately have you go down a pipe often have really simple intros. Its generally just you and the pipe, and that's fine, BUT there's something really simple you can do to give your level that little bit of creative feel it needs.

You don't need to create prop art or anything. Instead, something simple like this single-screen horseshoe design is easy to make and looks so much nicer than a simple hop into a pipe. There's other things you can do here like provide power-ups or even display the mechanics that the level will be focused on. For instance, you could replace the bridge with a Swinging Claw to ensure the player knows how to operate one before beginning the actual level.

played all your levels now, very nice aesthetics and quite fun. easy but that's expected of the first/second world. I like the optional red coins and other secrets alot.

It might have something to do with one of the keys you can find in the level. You can go down in two of the seven pipes past the first checkpoint. You need a shell of some sort to collect the key

Never mind, I just figured it out. It doesn't update until you restart the game.

I found losing the shroom on the second jump is actually more efficient since you hold invulnerability into the next section.
I pushed the record down pretty far but I'm curious too if it can be pushed further. I'll give it a like just to keep an eye on it.
