I'm new and still playing through ARR. Making very slow progress because I keep leveling different jobs and can't commit to one.

I just picked up the game and I'm incredibly autistic when it comes to making characters.

I actually really enjoyed it.

I recommend making a character, playing it for ten levels or so, and deciding whether you like it. You get a free appearance change potion when you clear the base game story so you'll be able to change things once without having to pay.

I fucking hate adds in titty ex. Fatboy butterfly has more engaging mechanics for sure, but he's also way more recoverable it seems.

As long as you're having fun, its allright. But leave now before you get spoiled on Shadowbringers as its not only the best expansion story, but the best FF story, period.

I was waiting on the rest of my FC to get there, but I think tomorrow I'm just going to grind a billion badges and get a full set of gear to do it.

I'm a little put off with my FC, I've tanked since ARR was new, but a new guy came in and wants the spot. While I don't mind switching to BLM since I like that job too, I did want a full set of BiS tank gear. If we could still meet the DPS checks, I'd honestly just bring a 3/3/2 comp and deal with poor DPS, but I'm usually on top when I'm playing BLM so I think it'd be too missed.

Normally you hit the level cap, do the trial/special dungeon that happens to unlock exactly when you hit that level, watch the credits roll then wait for the next update.

You forgot one of the best parts in that the location names in the dungeon form a narrative on their own

On a general level, learn what the boss mechanics are, it's a dance that everyone has to preform, along with special shit each role has to preform. Coupled with that it's some pretty basic "use your defensive cooldowns" when the boss is using a tank buster, or if you're sharing a buster with your co-tank. There might be some tank swapping but it's as easy as a provoke and shirk now to deal with that. Just join a learning party and don't be afraid to fuck up, thankfully these EX primals are pretty easy, so if you have a few brain cells, you'll do just fine.

I'm really hoping the dev team continues down this path and all the tanks wind up becoming just as fleshed out as DPS. At this point, there's only one main difference between playing a tank and playing a DPS, and that's using a defensive cooldown for a tankbuster. As a healer, there's far more shit to do in innocence. There is exactly one point in Titania where you're under any pressure to heal whereas that feels like every mechanic in innocence. Though that may be because my dps like to stand in everything in that fight....

Now that you say it, looking back, it's amazing how many additional jobs are in vs 2.0. We went from two tanks, two melee, BRD, two casters, and two healers to four tanks, four melee, three ranged, 3.5 casters, and 3 healers.

If you were trying not to have duplicate jobs in 2.0, you only really had one choice, and it was which DPS to leave out.

I'm currently levelling my first character and sidequests have felt completely pointless, granted I'm only level 30
The main story quests, job quests, and MSQ dungeons have always kept me up with where I need to be for the MSQ aside from like level 13 where I did a couple of the levequests and that went real fast
After you unlock dungeons that seems to be your fastest way to get XP by far

I knew it wasn't the ending but for some reason I expected Innocence to be the ending. Or there to be a pittance afterwards. Honestly if not for my petrified fear of spoilers hitting me and wanting to talk about it with friends I would have exhausted most of the side-quests in zones. I know when I got to Amaurot I did just that with the few quests we had because of how rich it was.

The game was so good it's made me almost 'mad' in a way that they shot their quiver of such excellent storytelling so early. I see why Yoshi joked about people worrying XIV was over because while it clearly isn't it spent itself on one of its best plot points. My extreme concern is with Zenos. I apologized for edgelord anime autist villain when I expected he'd be there for an expansion, or maybe have a minor side role. That he's now the front and center villain is alarming because he does not have the gravitas to carry that role. I really don't want Garlean Sepiroth as the final villain.

Hydaelyn isn't going to be able to do anything. We're still a single calamity away from Zodiark being resummoned and killing literally everything which means Hydaelyn isn't even strong enough to speak. The absolute only thing she's done is given us our blessing which, as midgardsormr so thoroughly proved can't be negated by a strong enough being.

What's really going to happen is that Hydaelyn is either going to give more of herself to us or or Zenos is going to have a picnic on her existence as he's proven that those with a strong enough connection to the echo can outright control a primal and a world encompassing primal with the strength of Zodiark/Hydaelyn is strong enough to give him the ultimate fight he wants.

Meanwhile Elidibus can't do ANYTHING dangerous now because he's literally it. If he dies the entire plan of the Ascians comes undone. And every fragmented Ascian can't do fuck all because of either "Shadowhunter" or not, Zenos just flat out killing them because the world knows they exist.

I think he'd have had a great redemption arc had he lived through 3.5. Undying loyalty to his homeland, could make him lead his own faction of AM liberators seperate from RR's group, have tension throughout the story coming from having to deal with the fact you and one of the biggest enemies you've had are now reluctantly working together.

It'd have especially went well with SB's original storyboarding where we were suppose to set foot in AM and be conflicted by finding people living a mostly normal life under imperial rule, so much so that not very many actually wanted to rebel, because Ilbred would've forced the issue on them anyway. But then it was decided the Empire must look like irredeemable monsters, and thus Zenos was born.

That aside, I wouldn't disagree, but Innocence you can get skate by with not even getting selected by mechanics, which makes it easier to get through more of the fight to learn, and you get by ressing that one retarded samurai a couple times if you have to. Plus if it comes down to it you can eat one god ray or something and survive well enough. No one really gets a free pass on titania's mechanics though.

If not for the way it would ruin the innocence of his absolute love and veneration of the WoL as his hero man I fucking hate shipping but I feel so tempted to do it there. G'raha in the Crystal Tower wasn't anything special, he was just another rather watered down ARR NPC like most were. It's as the Exarch that he blossoms unbelievably. He's a rich and interesting character there and it's amazing how damn SMART he is. DRK's fun, but it needs more MP generation IMO. BW's kinda limp right now just being a 600 MP regen for 4-5 hits equaling out to one Edge/Flood/TBN every minute, and only getting back 200 MP per Bloodspiller with Delirium up is kinda baffling. It's a good base to build off of, though.

Ascians are supposed to have the echo too which makes the notion that they were tempered by Zodiark all the more bizarre and lends credence to the theory that the echo really is tempering by Zodiark/Hydaelyn.

What? It wasn't that ancient ascians didn't want to be sacrificed. Ascians WILLINGLY sacrificed themselves. That was the entire point of us sitting in the lobby. What happened after was that some Ascians noticed that the 14 were tempered and likely wanted a failsafe to control Zodiark. Hydaelyn fighting, beating, and shattering Zodiark was likely not a result anybody expected or wanted.

Their plan was to sacrifice to bring about Zodiark (which they did). Then use Zodiark to rewrite reality (which they did too. Then use the Aether in the land that's revived later to revive all of the ascians. Which didn't happen because of a small difference in opinions.

It already has, Zenos took the first step to throwing the Garlean Empire into total disarray and a slow death all over again. Solus isn't present to guide the empire further from behind the scenes, Varis is dead, and Zenos has no interest in assuming the throne. The only room that's really left for the Empire to be a continued threat is for one of the squabbling princelings mentioned in the war-of-succession to assume power, and that's assuming the nation doesn't just completely unravel before then.

They've already saved Zenos by making it in no uncertain way that he's absolutely bat shit insane and not that he's just another Goku tier fight autist.

Garlemald is saved because Garlemald is finished. Unless Gaius somehow survives Zenos (which he might because Zenos doesn't give a fuck about motherfuckers too weak to hurt him and Gaius is useful in that he's killing Ascians who want to kill WoL) Garlemald will either be severely diminished or outright invalidated.

As a guy who's played A LOT of DRK (Literally have all the DRK achievements), it really does feel like GNB puts out a ton of DPS. It helps that they have a ton of offensive skills compared to even a couple DPS classes though. Overall, I think GNB is a good dungeon/off tank class but the other three work better for raids and trials.

I think Zodiark is a bit different than Lakshmi as Zodiark literally rewrote reality when he was born.
The sheer magnitude of power the ancients provided Zodiark is more than any other primal formed, only Hydaelyn could stop him and she was also born of ancients aetherpools.
Sacrificing all the "shattered" living pieces to empower Zodiark to most likely devour/rejoin Hydaelyn and then with that combined energy to bring back all the ancients fully reformed.

No, XIV's Ivalice has no bearing on XII's Ivalice. XIV's version of XII's events are actually constructed such that XII can't and didn't happen as it should've, Ivalice on Hydaelyn is just a region of the world.

Most of the side quests are just filler for exp, though there are some good side stories nestled among them. Optional dungeons and unlockable icons noted with a Blue quest icon, you should probably do in addition to MSQ if you want to unlock extra dungeons and stuff.

At the end of an expac, do the alliance-raids and 8-man raids before moving on to the next expac. There's enough people wandering around yet that you can still do Coils of Bahamut, which is very story-relevant but is notoriously dead content. All alliance-raids have frequent activity because of the daily roulettes, the same goes for Alexander and Omegascape 8-mans.

Optional quests and post-game dungeons are usually just flavor, but there's loads of good dungeons.

Just do whatever you feel like you want to do. I do recommend unlocking every dungeon at least, though

Oh I just meant it as sarcasm, the idea being if it seems frivulous to foreshadow a major development in an optional raid to illustrate it had happened before. It just seems far too accidental to not be of consequence - a Garlean legion commander showing up to the ruins of "Ivalice" (Whether it was Dalmasca or Oboronne or whoever preceeded Dalmasca, I forget) with technology similar to the Garleans (AKA rooted in Allagan) with a power to drill to the center of the earth. It has to show up again somewhere. I don't recall this kind of hook existing with the Mhach oriented 24 man of HW. I had to deal with that doing innocence ex yesterday, my co-tank forgot to provoke half the time, forgot to shirk or turn off her tank stance when swapping, I don't think she mitigated a single buster, the only time she'd survive was by healer shields.

The lilies are barely fixed and the only reason people are claiming that WHM is good is because they finally rebalanced healers so that WHM is where it should be with no utility whatsoever - which is, a good thousand or two of personal dps over the competition. But besides that, the Afflatus abilities feel clunky to use, you're forced to use one every 30s after a minute in - and you need to use a GCD to activate it, meaning that you actually lose OUT on DPS in a purely DPS situation. The animations for Glare, Dia, and all of the Afflatus abilities fucking suck. The loss of Aero 3 and Cleric Stance makes DPSing so much more simpler and boring - but this is something that's common across every healer, not just WHM. WHM just got the longer straw out of this shitshow that was healer changes.

Our kit is extensive, yet unneccesary. The healing has been nice in the current prog scene - but I cannot imagine using half of my abilities once people are comfy with it. I didn't use half of my kit while leveling on a tank who I know was in shit gear because I leveled with him.

And as good as a quality of life change making Holy a 2.5s cast was, it feels like shit to use now. The damage is worse AND it just feels like it's a wet blanket now. It's like if they made Flare into a base 2.5s spell and it didn't use up all of your MP (without Umbral Hearts). Yeah, it's technically better, but now it feels like shit to cast and isn't as fun. You'd think they understand this, but no - they made our big dick AoE into this wet blanket of an AoE to standardize everything.

WHM is better in a general sense but it feels worse to play and overall isn't as fun. Change my mind.

look up the optional dungeons, 24-man raids and optional primals

Stop right there. Using afflatus misery is a dps loss, you're not forced to use jack shit.
If you need to heal and you need to use a gcd you use afflatus rapture/solace instead of medica I/II cure III, that way your dps loss is lessened from 300 to 75.

You're not forced to use lillies at all.

My biggest complaint at the moment is that the coolest fucking dungeons don't even drop gear, just accessories.

If there were armor sets and weapons from Amaurot, Twinning, Totally-Not-Rapture, and Innocence I'd cream my fucking pants

those three were the only ascians left whole after the sundering. the others that have shown up so far were part of the 14 but they were incomplete. technically any of them could raise up WoL into an ascian
