Just make another 64 without any fucking gimmicks. It's that simple and yet they've been failing every time because they keep putting in fucking gimmicks.
Analyze the series, figure out what works and what doesn't, find where there's room for improvement, make each installment a refinement over the last, so it can progress as a series, but that usually takes effort.
Use Assault as a starting point and fix its problems.

Stop shoe horning any new fucking technology onto star fox titles, stop it. No one wants to play with the Wii U game pad, it is so bulky so stop forcing me to play with that bullshit. Stop making an open world experience, Star fox adventure was shit and I never played assault because of how shitty adventure was. Go back to strictly on the rails shooters with the arwing and then have your all range mode sections. Literally just go back to Star Fox 64, that game was quite possibly the best title on the N64 because every level had tight level design and every encounter was memorable. Even the banter between pilots was brilliant, it felt so natural. Star Fox 64 was peak level design in that era and is still fun today because of it.

A lot of companies do this shit these days. They forget you gotta have a solid, well-selling franchise to experiment a ton on. The series doesn't have much of a platform to "spring-board" from. They should stick to something safe, like, I dunno, what already works. I feel ya user.
This isn't 1998 anymore, nobody's gonna be satisfied paying $60 for a fucking hour long rail shooter. If you go back and look at Zero, even ignoring all the gyro control bullshit you've still got a total of like 3 hours worth of content. I've gotten 64 2.0 twice now, gimme a new fucking game with some new ideas.
Make a game like 64, that isn't literally a remake of 64.

make it like SF2, but 8 player coop/vs with splitscreen option. One Team plays Starfox and the other Starwolf and you try to conquer/defend as many planets as possible for your team. And you clash somewhere in the middle for 4vs4 dogfights
1. make skippy explode and scream "aaaaaaaaa" in a high pitched voice every level no matter what you do.
2. make the levels randomly change direction and goal without warning and have the characters make up stupid excuses for why it changes

Fox in Space is good, but it just wreaks of furfaggotry. Some scenes are difficult to watch because the homo making the show puts so much weird ass fan service into it.

2 is fun as fuck and has no on-rails segments at all. All you need is arcade flight gameplay and good controls.
And also price it at only fifteen bucks to not piss off modern customers because they're NOT paying full price for that genre.

Assault wasn't bad except for it's short length. Command wasn't bad except for it's story. They even got 64 again, twice, and the fans didn't like it.
Just integrate Ending Nine from Command, call it canon, and only assure the future of Star Fox as F-Zero characters.
