Noting your first ending is cool, but the game isn't over until you get them all. The narrative isn't complete, and you're missing plenty of plot points. That said, this is one of the few games to properly use the medium as part of its storytelling to amazing effect.

They range a bit, and can get a little tricky or obtuse at times. I think the latter games have harder puzzles though. I don't remember anything as complicated as alternatives numerical systems in practice being used in the first game.

But in all honesty, solving the puzzles is really part of the experience. They're part of the narrative. It's not the same at all. Can you re map the keys in the PC version to make it something more comfortable? 'Cause that's a really petty reason not to just play it.

Puzzles were challenging (not as much as VLR but still leagues above 999. took a while to figure out how to advance a couple worldlines) and there's a lot of fun character interactions but the fact we didnt get the ending to vlr that we were promised will never not hurt

I made it a point to beat the rooms without breaking out a pencil and paper, and I was able to do it.
If you're playing the DS version, I'd write down which paths you've done and what talking events happen in each room. But I cheated and looked up the best ending path, and don't feel bad about it.

I think that this, while possibly an oversight, really might actually play into people's perceptions of those around them. Especially how we interact with anyone that we assume is lesser. IE someone with severe developmental disabilities, or physical ones that basically make them incapable of interacting with the world on the same level. To them, they might have ignored that the same way they didn't ask why the dog wasn't represented there.
