I think there's been tank nerfs as well, but I can put my finger on it. I did Bardam's Mettle earlier today in full Scavean, I couldn't even pull two packs without exploding. I had dug up old screenshots I had, and in the few I could find I had almost 9k (46k vs 37k) extra health in BM with synced gear, though I was comparing DRK and PLD to GNB. That might only affect old dungeons though, perhaps it was changed so they sync down further.

It's been that way forever. You're always railroaded into doing what the story tells you, you don't get any choice in who your character "is". Roleplayers already basically ignore all the warrior of light stuff and pretend to just be someone else.
I was really surprised with Gunbreaker. I thought it was going to a katana-like saber using job that had light and quick attacks with occasional blasts, instead we got a heavy sword that has great animations and feels very weighty. I had it written off and now I'm debating between maining it or WAR.

1-30 wasn't too bad, it's just that once you actually get to be a PLD, it just goes downhill and you don't ever really get what you're supposed to do as a PLD. 50-60 was really slow as shit and nothing really came out from getting that Oathbringer shit and 60-70 was some tournament arc shit that doesn't really matter at all.
At least the tank role class quest in ShB was kinda neat, though the 80 class quest was also fucking nothing.
The idea is you're supposed to be a free paladin or a knight errant or some shit, you should be going around fighting some other evil or cult. Or get into a duel with another paladin, just something else than GLD shit.

Not for leveling though I like to equip materia while leveling for crafting/gathering to make it easier.
Once you hit max, it helps for extreme/savage raids and you'll be especially expected to have them for savage at least.

While you do progress at an absolutely insane pace, your battle experience still pales compared to Ran'jit that has been fighting his entire life. The fact you manage to kill him after just 2 encounters and emerge unscathed is a testament to just how broken the WoL is.
I do agree at this point no opponent really should wipe the floor with you. Both Ran'jits and Zenos first appearances were just insulting.

As time goes on he unravels more and more until he ends up killed, realizing there's no place for a traditional political strongman like him in this fucked up world of wizards and anime autism samurais.

ARR story picks up around level 35 when you head into Coerthas.
ARR and Stormblood will be really hit or miss, you just kinda have to slog through some of it. There are some high points in there though.
Heavensward is consistently good once you get to it, and Shadowbringers has been consistently great. Worth going through the worst slogs of ARR and Stormblood for it imo.
Don't forget aim the big laserbeam at the furthest corner ball during 4 stars and don't be that retard that hits the star beside you wiping the raid

Primals seem to be Dark/Astral aspected. Primals on the Thirteenth brought a Flood, and then primals were used on the Source to initiate the Seventh Calamity, which was Darkness. The existence of primals would probably conflict with the Flood of Light so the Ascians just never taught anyone to do it.
Dps players are all braindead. The only reason anyone has ever cleared anything in this game is because there are enough healers that can babysit the absolute shitters that play dps
I don't understand how it's possible to hit enrage on innocence. I had a farm group that literally had over 20 deaths AND the damage down debuff on the party from fucking up the white stars and we STILL cleared it well in time before enrage. The boss could have twice as much HP and still be beatable.
New maps are decent gil unless you do them and get lucky with an indigo cloth for a mil or two.

None of them are truly hard. But easiest is by far RDM. BLM is also pretty simple in a vacuum but in actual content can be a pain. For melee, probably DRG.
Hardest I'd say is NIN. No clue how MNK stands right now.
The aetherial activity on both worlds has to be aspected the same though. That's why Black Rose was going to be used for Light, because it halts the flow of aether and is thus Umbral-aspected. Overuse of magic was used for Water, because the use of magic is water-aspected, etc.

the enrages are pretty lenient
from what I've seen over the course of grinding out EX fights:
bad DPS usually float around 6k or less with the tanks
average DPS usually float around 8-8.5k
good DPS are usually pushing 10k or more
