I actually just pirated this game. Ive built a base and got past the point were the sunbeam blew up. I know I have to cure myself of the disease but am I really expected to basically just wander around aimlessly till I find out how? Also any good reason there are no weapons in the game? Ive lost 3 seamoths to leviathans and its getting old.

You need to go deeper, blood kelp areas are the ones that lead to deeper areas. Also there are no weapons because the game started development in 2012 around the time sandy hook shooting happened and the devs are die hard liberals.

Basically just build other two vehicles and max out the deep dive upgrades. Scout out the depth w/ the seamoth until you find deep tunnels leading to the green lake place (there are multiple entry points). Put the prawn suit in the cyclops, stock up on food and water and explore some more. It gets relatively straightforward at that point.

Save when in safe waters. Explore. If a leviathan fucks your moth up, just reload.
Use the wiki and interactive map if you really have to. It can get really unnerving when you just roam around without coming upon those cyclops parts.

It adds to the tension. There is a stasis rifle that can save you if you are accurate. But desu, if I could kill the leviathans even semi viably without cheesing it I wouldn't enjoy the game as much unless there were other major changes. What I think subnautica does well is give a great sense of satisfaction for exploring new areas and finding new resources, while also making it constantly scary to do so.
The radio messages sort of guide you along, but you can also ignore them and find what you want on your own.

So is the reason sub zero just doesnt feel as good just the fact that there are actual other people in the game? What I mean is in the first game you start in a little dingy in the middle of a giant ocean alone with no one else alive anywhere near you. In sub zero not only do you start pracicly on land but even worse is there is a lady up in space talking to you compounded with the fact that in theory at any time you could just call a shuttle. Do you think they should just swallow their pride and gut the entire current story? Hell you can still be a researcher and still be looking for the other guy but get rid of the space station in orbit and the other girl.
