Dwarf Fortress

Alright Yea Forums, just starting dorf fort for the first time, should I read tutorials or just go in blind? I know how to mine, build and farm, is that enough to figure this shit out?

You can go blind, but don't bother trying to understand the military UI on your own.
It's a mega ultra turbo mess.

lrn2 refuses and quarries and you're good to go die

>Briefly scan wiki articles to see what changed
>Taverns, books, all kinds of other shit
>Terrified to update game and suddenly have no idea what's going on like when I just started
Fuck lads

>or just go in blind
Depends, how much do you hate yourself?

idk, like at least 7

You could go blind in terms of mobs/environments/etc but do not bother to go blind in regards to navagating the menu. I get its probably a bit of a hassle to add a mouse-nav UI at this point but god it's annoying to try and route-learn all those keys.

After playing it for years a mouse-nav ui would just be too slow for the vast majority of the game, but maybe I just absorbed some of Toady's autism
The military screen is unforgivable though

>that's not the best part
If I hadn't just gotten Skylines I'd probably be loading up DF right now after seeing this thread. I miss the madness but needed something a bit more sedate and not involving everyone bashing each others heads in with stone goblets in the tavern.
