SOUL
POKEMON AFTER GEN 5 = SOULLESS
Facts
Trying to summon the energy for a new game
>mfw I played through the game blind as a Machop with a Treeko parter
>mfw it's supposedly one of the hardest matchup
>tfw never beat Purity Forest and recruited Celebii
Id say even black and white was less soul then every other pokemon game
God damn i fucking wish and hopefully they would go back to 2d
No one cares how hard it was for you difficulty doesnt mean fun
Shame its worth replaying
Woah, that was the very first machup I got too. So it's the hardest matchup you say? Guess that really does makes us brave.
Those are some brave quints my man
Brave and quintpilled. A true American hero.
Brave rescue team
Explorers was shit.
Rescue Team was far and away the best in the series.
Gates was underrated
Super had the best characters, but a horribly paced story
Very false
>3d
sorry I just can't get over that
Why did pokemon go 3d it kills me inside
It sucks but I don't think they would go back to 2d now. Maybe fangames
>Not gameplay
>Not gameplay
>Not gameplay
And that's why nintendo doesn't give a fuck about the mystery dungeon games being better than them for those reasons.
nah 3d models they make require so much less work than actual animated 2d so they wont go back
youtube.com
>this kills the anti explorerscuck
Super removed random recruitments which was my favorite mechanic and had a shit story, fuck Super.
>Post game content
>Main story actually gets challenging 1/3 through
It has more gameplay than the mainline games
Fuck there was just a quintzero last night. I feel blessed to witness both of you user
The best in the series were Red/Blue Rescue Team and Explorers of Sky. Super was passable but it is a shame that this spinoff series probably won't ever get any more love or attention. I mean they haven't even gave the main games love and attention for years.
I'm pretty sure that every single team allowed to make a Pokemon spinoff has put more effort and "soul" into it than Game Freak, even before the series went irrevocably downhill.
I'd rather play Mystery Dungeon, Pokken, Ranger, Rumble, Conquest, Channel, the or Orre games before 90% of the mainline. I'm kind of "out" of Pokemon and have been since the month X came out but if I ever went back in I'd only replay Emerald, HGSS, and Gen 5.
Playing Red Rescue Team on my New3DS. The sprite work it's beautiful.
>play explorers
>about to do the aegis cave shitshow
what do i do bros
yup it sucks but gamefreak is awful
true it is a really pretty game
Why haven't they made a more mature pokemon game yet? It's clear the fans have aged with the games, why not try and make a game that isn't told from the perspective of a ten year old? The original pokemon manga had tons of mature themes, from pokemon being made into food to characters having perverted thoughts, etc.
Because games are for children and children love mobile games - Masuda
I don't think Gamefreak realizes that the majority of their fanbase are people who grew up with the series and not just kids anymore. Also I think in general there tends to be an attitude that things aimed at kids have to be for kids and can't be anything more meaningful than just that..
BW1 was their attempt, given that Hilda & Hilbert are in their mid-late teens and most of the story has you assume that Plasma actually had N's ideals in mind.
You'll have to look for fangames or the Orre games to get anything even close to mature in a mainline Pokemon.
snoyggers wish there ps4 games had as much soul as there PS2 games
>Explorers of Shit: Infantile Dungeon
>good
Remember that event that LITERALLY just happened? Let's flashback to it because the target audience of this game is 5 years old and we can't trust them to follow along a basic plot.
They did, it was Colosseum, they should really make a sequel to that game
>OLD GAME BAD
I had RRT. Game was pretty fucking tedious.
>Mew still won't show up in Buried Relic
ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
Shiren the Wanderer 5 is peak Mystery Dungeon
That got me so bad dude
>Fuck it up the first time
>Never happens again
No pokemon no fun
sorry sweetie
youtube.com
I cant cope with it i just want MEW
Wonder Mail the stones.
Someone is still mad about the waterfall I see
WHERE THE HOOD WHERE THE HOOD WHERE THE HOOD AT

why does mainline even try when these games exist
Mainline doesn't try, actually.
>blocks your path
>why does mainline even try
They don't
>that remix of the great canyon in super mystery dungeon
youtube.com
I tried to like the Mystery Dungeon games but they're boring glorified VNs.
This...this game series...
Did it shine...?
Yes. Extraordinarily.
I thought of doing that before. Are the secret rank treasures worth wonder mailing as well?
>tfw can't go back and have comfy adventures with my Pokemon friends for the first time
At least I still have Red to play through, so all is not lost. I do hope the series isn't dead though.
It shone bright and died quick. Today's mystery dungeons are garbage compared to rescue team and explorers.
took me atleast over 50 goarounds just to find mew
>worth it
sky >>> darkness/time > blue > red > super >>> gates >>> wiishit
god fuck i miss the friend areas so much. i miss the 2D shit in general
>to mystery dungeon fans sky is the only one worth playing
>to them the 3 other games are borderline complete dogshit
>they love and cherish the series anyway begging for a new game even though they’ll race back to sky anyway
i dunno anymore
youtube.com
Honestly prefer the RRT versions over BRT, shits so good
Post music
youtube.com
Is there a hard mode or something? I remember it being way too easy.
>DUDE UNOVAMONS LMAO
>ywn live in Treasure Town and go on adventures with your best bro
Why even live?
youtu.be
>we're not finished yet!
>lets go!
Did you ever make it to the post game?
i have nostalgia up the ass for red rescue but i seriously don't get how people prefer its soundtrack over blue's. it's just an awfully compressed version of the latter
In some of the games there are difficult dungeons with conditions such as reducing your level to 1.
Blue Team niggers need not apply.
youtube.com
Yeah it's called Super
How is Super Mystery Dungeon? Heard it was shit. All I want is good dungeons and good characters.
Super is good, story takes some time to kick in but there's good characters and good dungeons. Better than gates, just under rescue/explorers imo.
Dungeons are ok, fantastic music, great characters, story is alright but the pacing goes from a crawl to a fucking leap at the halfway point.
I beat blue rescue team a decade ago and havent touched a mystery dungeon game since. Should I play it again or go on to explorers of the sky? I've heard thats the best one
It's not bad. The only problems with it are the Connection Orb, the slow start and the story being shit because of the partner's personality, though your mileage may vary on that one. It's harder than the previous games as well
youtube.com
i fucking loved how they used some of the dungeon music throughout certain parts in the story too
Go straight into Explorers of Sky.
And for the love of God, don't abuse the mission generator to give you everything you want straight off the bat.
play sky and then give super a go, it's no where near as good as sky but it's still pretty decent and worth playing
If they made a new PMD what would they make the ending?
>tfw machop pikachu
>utterly fucking unstopable except for the final boss and a few psychics
>get an absol to cuck pokemons with bite while Pikachu paralyzes everything and anything
>focus low kick my way to victory
Damn man, shit was so cash.
Something that doesn't involve either the main character or partner disappearing.
The most content of the series, the hardest in the series, the "best" AI in the series.
HOWEVER:
>Story is completely fucked up, the school part literally never ends, it's like a 10 hours tutorial
>Shitty team building mechanic, quests got removed, instead you have to do fixed missions to unlock pokemons
>Pokemons that joined you can just decide to fuck off for in game weeks
>Experience is a bitch to obtain, post game is pretty much only "use the pokemons that give a boost to exp"
I'd say it could have easily been the best PMD game, but did a series of retarded choices that keep it back. Explorers of sky is still the best.
How come theres no rom hacks for these games but endless ones for mainline?
You disappear halfway through the story and play as the partner and other characters into the last act
like others said the start is super slow, i'm not sure I even got out of it because i dropped it. The worst part I remember was walking into a room and being immediately one-shotted from across the room. It got really frustrating. Fuck overheat or whatever it was.
How about their child/egg
The woodwinds here give me very specific vibes; they remind me of the Dub OST to Digimon Frontier, which I think is incredible and remarkably underrated.
>not adding Leer to that combo
Machop already has strong enough basic attacks. You need all the power you can get for things that don't go down easy.
Partly because it's harder to meaningfully rom hack a game with so much randomization
The two credits songs of Sky were wonderful
youtube.com
youtube.com
There are hacks that let you play with different Pokémon other than the starters
I remember trying to use growl/leer a few times and only seeing a 1 point difference in damage. Never had much of an issue with enemies debuffing me either, other than accuracy.
I forgot to relearn it and link it but ah well user, not much I can do now. Fun game tho.
youtu.be
This song man.
THIS FUCKING SONG.
that absolute feel when this only plays for 20 floors OUT OF 99
Explorer of the sky fucked me up as a kid I never felt so hopeless when the plot twist came (even though it was obvious) and never been so happier in a vidya when your team come back to the guild
But holy shit that ending broke my heart those feels were not meant for child me, I hope a game make me experience dem feels again one day
Also that music when your partner cry at the end fug
is there a hack of sky that lets me play as my nigga cubone again?
Red or Blue?
Red out of nostalgia
Also how cool is that boxart
Anyone else like the Red OST more because it's the one you had as a kid.
I know the GBA sound quality is kinda crap, but I'm nostalgically attached to the bitcrush and chiptune.
Playing Red, the password system blew my mind. That I didn't need wifi or anything to interact with other players was fucking crazy.
red because of nostalgia, but blue is the definitive version
red's title screen is still better though
look it's the best Pokemon in Sky
>that one mission where you have to escort Gengar to meet Ninetails
>all those ghost pokemon hiding in the walls
Holy shit I remember raging so hard as a kid
They sound well for the console they were on. Honestly most GBA games had good soundtracks despite the shitty chip.
>Can't attack Pokemon in walls but they can attack you
Always felt completely bullshit
And on that note fuck Shedinja whenever you ran out of PP for your moves
