If tf2 was released today, would Demoman cause a controversy for being a black scotsman?
If tf2 was released today, would Demoman cause a controversy for being a black scotsman?
who cares
I think people wouldn’t mind, provided he’s written just as well as he is now. He’s clearly flawed but greatly enjoyable
if tf2 was released today more people would complain about the lack of playable female characters
yes
people were bitching that there was a black woman soldier in the new modern warfare trailer
no xhe'd be cast as a trans-melanin single monther
Nobody important is ever really mad, it's a fringe 10% loud minority that makes shit articles / twitter / Yea Forums posts and the rest of people rarely agree.
Imagine if you got paid $20/hr to post on Yea Forums as long as you got people to get your thread to 100 posts, but you have no idea what to talk about. Now imagine what kind of low effort, anger inducing threads you could make to bait easy responses.
It's just low-hanging fruit and easy to pretend to be offended by something because you never have to go into detail because you can shame anyone who questions you.
On Yea Forums / youtube's side everyone feels like any multicultural / gay characters are just pandering to the same "woke" closet-racist wealthy liberals who want to build their life around justice and showing how much more racist everyone else is than they are.
Soldier 76 is a perfect example of this, a controversy came out against blizzard and they decided to label a generic solider character gay with ZERO foreshadowing or effort. The controversy then shifted to soldier 76.
So tl;dr - Yes. Yes he would.
Yes, because Valve would force the controversy as marketing tool. They'd also add lootboxes from the start, so the game would be dead on arrival.
This. Btw
>decided to label a generic solider character gay with ZERO foreshadowing or effort
How do you foreshadow a character being gay without being offensive? The entire point of making S76 gay is that "normal people everywhere can be gay". Did you expect him to be at a pride parade or flirting with every other male Overwatch member?
No, because he his entire personality doesn't bog down to just being black. It doesn't feel forced. He doens't feel like he was added to fill some retarded diversity quota.
probably i felt we never bitched about shit like this, we had organic diversity.
Now they force it and if it doesn't meat quota X people bitch about it.
As a black guy i never gave a fuck, i was like, oh cool? and moved on learning the other chars.
Based
ID'S HABBEDING
probably some shit about how the only black person in the game is an angry drunk
Black Scottish people are relatively common so I doubt it. It's like getting mad over a Latino in New York.
Source: I'm black and Scottish.
UPDATE NEVER!!!
t. I was a kid back then and didn't realize the politics at the time
But are you a cyclops?
To be fair, if they wanted to go with a "it's just a trait, not part of his identity" approach, they wouldn't have made such a big deal about it. Take Fallout NV for example, one of your possible followers is gay, but the story or marketing never made a big deal about it, it was just a slight detail you could easily miss because his sexuality wasn't relevant to the plot.
From what I understand Overwatch has no real story and the characters aren't even as fleshed out as TF2's. But if they were going to do something with that they could have showed him in a photo with another guy that you'd assume was a "comrade" but was actually his homo lover or something I don't know.
That wasn't really my point though, these characters are just props to give people something to discuss / make money from / virtue signal with. Check out J.K Rowling's retconning of race / sexual orientation for a good example. People are tired of disingenuously added characters that were made from the ground up to virtue signal or cause fake controversy but they get labeled as bigots for trying to point this out.
Just throwing in some anecdotal bullshit so you can ignore / consider this if you want; but from what I've see. When it comes to the woke wealthy liberal types, as soon a you get on those people's bad side they'll start un-ironically talking to you like they just came fresh out of Yea Forums and they've never set foot in the hood a day in their lives.
I require glasses to read small print, does that count?
canee ya do a demhoman impression laddy?
Yes people were upset about coach being black when l4d2 was first shown
honestly glad they made him black, since his original design was the regular ginger kilt wearing scotsman.
I was more upset about coach being coach than coach being black
he is just sort of there, same for rochelle
they really dumped all the good writing on ellis and nick
COLA
The internet just makes activism too easy. There is no quality control and any ignorant shithead can represent a group regardless of even being part of it or having experience. SJWs go for the wide appeal but it just leads to one big circlejerk with them enabling each other's stupidity, which only makes it more hilarious when they trip all over each other because one of them has more knowledge about the subject. Makes me glad that I am not part of any popular minority group, I can't stand people like this.
IMMA BE A ONE MAN CHEESEBURGER APOCALYPSE
It should. One half of his identity consists entirely out of being part of a degenerate race of 'people' who have never achieved anything in history except to be colonized by superior people, whom they still resent for having imposed civilization on them. Subhumans wallowing in constant substance abuse, teenage pregnancy and gang violence, kept adrift only by mooching off of the good nature of actual humans.
The other half, of course, is his skin colour.
>Why is there no gender slider?
woah you guys actually exist?
>several years ago, playing TF2
>dad walks in
>sees me playing Scout
>”Don’t they have any... ‘brotha’ characters?”
>switch to Demoman, frag some plebs
>Dad is happy
Thanks TF2
At least Coach was quotable, Rochelle was a huge step down from Zoey.
