It slowed everything down and purposely added tedium to a lot of shit because "life back that wasn't easy so we wanted the player to suffer as well" resulting in a slog of a title. RDR knows it's a video game and has shit in there to avoid some tedious shit, RDR2 wants to be a movie but can't get Hollywood to pay for it.

I dont understand how people can act like this is a serious story when its just one silly adventure to the next. The first two chapters are pretty grounded, but near the end of chapter 2 the game just jumps the shark into silliness and never recovers. You might as well call the game "the misadventures of dutch and his gang". A game trying to be serious and realistic should at least try to have a serious and realistic story, not going from camp to camp getting in progressively more unbelievable situations.

This. RDR2 has the most rewarding exploration in any open world game so far. You're basically tripping over interesting shit just roaming around and the environments are amazing. Exploration genuinely feels like an adventure, like you stumble into something previously untouched by civilization. It's during the missions when the game kind of falls apart. You can tell they tried to mix things up, but didn't go the extra mile.

Arthur's voice actor was one of the best I ever heard, and he deserved an Oscar for his performance. The open world is absolute shit though.
