Wasn’t Tabata already leading the project when the stuff on the left was still in the game? I know for a fact that those shots are from after the name change and I’m pretty sure by that point Nomura had left the project. The designs were definitely a lot better though.

all the screenshots in the left are from before Tabata joined, the 2013 trailer was made by Versus CGI cause they obviously had nothing new to show after moving it to PS4.

Nomura left in late 2013 so everything was still directed by him in the 2013 trailer.
The gameplay trailer of 2013 was a prototype build based on Nomura's concepts and ideas which is why everything including combat was scrapped.
Tabata became the director in December of 2013.

Those were designed by Nomura though, doesn't matter who was leading. Tabata changed the designs and even scrapped half the cast when he became the director. He even redesigned Prompto, not just supporting characters.
