Is this level supposed to flow? I get that you get the second and third coins with a triple jump, but after that, you have to skid to a halt and grab the next one, then back up and make the long jump. Then there are jumps where you can't see where you're landing... user, it needs some work.
And I liked it by accident, so there's that, too.

Oh, I didnt notice that. In any case the level looks good but its definitely tough - the 30 coin jump and the double small chomp come to mind, among others.
I got softlocked at the end, but I liked it. You should make the two more dificult jumps more easy or at least use coins to guide the player better.
You should put more coins, it gives life to levels and help players in part of the levels when they dont know what to do. The vine section was cool. Also I like the idea in Mole Kingdom but is underutilized, you should try to remake when you become better. And please put mushroom before difficult parts

How do you guys design levels, do you just go with the flow and make whatever or is there a set concept in mind? I have trouble making anything "interesting".
A creative compromise. The engine isn't going to allow you to do everything you want in the way you want it to. This is why you come up with work arounds. Watch some guides if you can't come up with anything yourself.
It's not too easy but it's too short, I like the mechanic, maybe you should try to spice it up with another thing

Not really anything special, feels a bit awkward to move around in due to having to navigate around the shells before I'm able to throw them

here, I was able to clear Mushihimesama, though the lack of diagonal movement and the lack of actually being able to attack back for most of the climb reminded me more of going for Dot Eater in Ikaruga then Mushihimesama. Maybe give the player a clown car to fix these issues?
I usually try to come up with a single gimick, and then build multiple sections with variations of that gimick. That way i dont need to plan too much, and if something isnt working changing or removing it isnt too hard.
I usually put some stuff down and see what kinds of things you can do with them. I end up scrapping levels a lot until I find some mechanic that I like. Then I try to design the level around using that mechanic in different ways.

Usually there's a gimmick or mechanic I wanna mess around with, so I build a level experimenting with different ideas using the gimmick/mechanic. Sometimes I just wanna use a certain style or theme cause I like the music.

Don't you think it's a bit ridiculous to not recognize that the game engine will not allow you to do everything you want in the most straightforward way, no matter how large or small? Would it be nice to have the ability to do whatever bullshit you want to do? Sure. The reality is that you cannot do it in that way. You either come up with a work around (which probably wouldn't be so difficult if you rubbed at least two of your braincells together and stopped shitposting here) or you fuck off and play a different game/make your own game.

See-Saw levels was tough but fun, the puzzles were great. I didnt realy liked the automated parts. One section requires a blind jump upwards in order to reach the switch before the platforms goes down again.
Generic Platformer was right up my alley, I loved the first screen even tho the first Big ! block pushing you off when you stomp it was a bit cheap

I had zero interest in SMM2 until a friend brought it over and I was impressed with how robust the creation tools were. I'm not even that big of a Mario fan. I've only played some games here and there.

I don't really like the autorun courses and I'm not good enough for those Kaizo looking levels, so my level is really laid-back Mario platforming. Tried to just intuitively introduce gameplay things so even if a brand new Mario player picked it up, they'd be able to figure it out. And it's themed because I feel like the best levels usually are in some way.
If you do play it, let me know what you think. As an outsider to these kinds of games, I'm curious what people look for in a good Mario level.

I'll help you to get the record back for you waifu.
- 1st coin: two simple jumps at full speed
- 2nd coin: just two jumps with a little left air control on the first one
- 3rd coin: just two jumps to get it, then another one right after. You can do the whole thing hold right
- 4th coin: jump left of the thwomp, spin jump on him, then jump on the platform, full jump on the wiggle, then bounce on the most right one (not really consistent I found)
- 5th one: after getting the flower just before, get hit by your cute gf, spin jump on the wiggle and grab the plant, jump on the ennemies, get damaged and sprint right
I actually fucked up the landing after getting the coins. I hit the roof. There's time save there.

Out of curiosity, did you go back with the switch backtrack path at the end? Or try exploring with the trampoline? I kept trying to account for and reward people who would try and discover things with the trampoline, but I don't know if anyone even engages with these games like that.

Depends what kind of difficulty it is. If it's super precise I'll probably quit
depends on how hard I worked to get there. If I derp and die an otherwise easy level 3 mins in I don't mind repeating, but if I'm working on a hard section where I die frequently, I need to be able to get to that attempt quickly (and die quickly). If I have to grind through a minute of whatever to get to the part I haven't figured out yet just to die as soon as I start, I may not keep trying very long.
Nintendo just can’t into online. MHGU is perfectly fine and I play with people from all of the world. And I imagine having MHGU run smoothly requires much better netcode than mario
MHGU is peer-to-peer and only really networks players and big monsters.
That said, they've also made online games for longer than a decade they probably have more experience while nintendo aka "only losers play online anyway"
Really good design, you need a save point that can be regained at will because the level takes too long for the timer.

Its like these people have never played a Mario game before. Just put some coins there so people will know where to jump. Randomly placed platforms dont add to the challenge, they just make it frustrating.
Themed levels aren't too tough, you have the ability to make them pretty linear and simple, just focus more on atmosphere and decoration. Make the level nice to look at, and then add some enemies to make it fun to play. Simple little tricks like jumping over a spike pit or climbing across vines is easy, but a fun experience.

Yeah, I kinda have a tough time getting the difficulty right where I want it, because the longer you spend testing a level, the easier the mechanics you put into it get for you. But you don't wanna shit out a half-tested level either. I might try jugging multiple levels to work on that are different enough that you can come back from one to the other and hopefully get a fresher look at it.
The last claw on the first section is really hard to grab, i died there like 10 times alone. But the rest of the level was pretty good.

2. Good tight platforming, but I'm confused about what the puzzle is. Is the puzzle supposed to be the room with the P-Switch?
3. I appreciated the concept, but that last arrow I feel was a bit misleading for what was essentially a big leap of faith. I didn't particularly like it, but I do like the way you lit the room up and feel you can build upon the concept by being a bit more clear about what you want us to do.
4. I'm still working on it clearing it, but I'm a fan of it. The lava rising that quick gives me a bit of a rush.

Gimmicky and not very long snow stage where you use the superball flower to do geometrical shots and have your balls bounce off of things to reach places you otherwise couldn't.

You're trying to escape the desert, but the thwomps won't let that happen and chase you right across! Fast level where you almost always run at full speed. Last part requires some spin jumping with Z.

I'm emotionally drained from CTR's nitro/coin grinding BS so I'm returning to Mario Maker.
Does anyone else ever look at their clear ratio on any of their levels and try to beat it again to see if it really was that hard or not?
All my stages have increasingly lower clear rates the newest one now being down to 3.52% with only 5 clears out of 20 players. I really worked hard to try and make the stage fair but challenging.
I just found the best level in SMM2
Clear rates can be deceptive. Better to look at # of plays and compare it to clears. Which is what the game actually does too for the most part when it comes to deciding on the difficulty.

Potentially a ridiculously difficult puzzle level. Guide a Monty Mole onto the note blocks to get the items you need to collect the pink coins to clear the level on a very slippery floor. What's the catch? You can't jump. Truly a very challenging level only for the bravest of players. Hint: You get no hints, but there is a very easy way to successfully guide Monty onto all music blocks and then get rid of him so he will no longer be a nuisance. The level is significantly easier once you get all the music note items.

Collecting a powerup while entering a door and getting hit right as you exit makes the game shit itself. There's another setup like this that freezes the game.

At what point does the game "load" gizmos and enemies. I'm trying to make a level based around lifts but their constant desync with each other makes the level randomly too hard for the player.

I just haven't thought about it to be honest. It's enticing for sure since doing from 2 checkpoints can make the level dull and the main reason I'm making these levels is for myself, but still. Doesn't feel proper to other players.
Beating that level three times must be a bigger accomplishment than the mere design itself, and the design is already really incredible, so kudos!

How do you even damage cat Bowser?
Basically I made a vertical scrolling level and added a bunch of vines to have a four axis movement (you can't do diagonals tho, so you kinda have to jump). Also you can't shoot up since when jumping fireballs only go down, but to fix that I was thinking of using the moon theme of the cave since it makes the game upside down while not inverting the controls.

The next level is shorter and has two different paths.

It's good to add more breathing room for lesser players. Makes the gameplay more varied as well.

Noted. I think it would be a bit too easy then though, since I made 2/5 challenges non-lethal.
Here's my latest level. It's an original SMB underwater themed level. I spent way too much time on this level. I tried to make some interesting challenges/puzzles.
I really wish you didn't have to set a time limit on stages. Just don't worry about timing out and try to enjoy the level. I was able to complete everything with time to spare but I obviously knew exactly how to do everything and went through it quickly. I've placed 2 checkpoints near each other. I recommend waiting until you've collected some pink coins before activating one of them since it will save the pink coins you've collected before dying. Only need 1 key to complete the level but there are 3 in total and you get a nice bonus for collecting all of them. The main gimmick of the level is collecting the pink coins so I really hope you try to do so. Otherwise the level is really short and easy.
I'd really like some feedback. I put it up last night before going to bed but it hasn't gotten any plays yet. I spent so many hours on this level.

1. My favorite part was the autoscroller at the beginning. You had some pretty good cycles with the Dry Bones.
2. Too enemy spammy for my liking. Didn't boo it though, just not my cup of tea.
3. I liked the difficulty, but I wish it was a bit longer.
