It's funny how in a game that is 16 years old, there are features like horse racing and playing frisbee with your dog. Where stardew valley makes animals and pets useless. In fact, stardew makes them less than useless, as you can feed them automatically, put them outside and inside automatically, and never have to fear coyotes or bad weather doing them harm.

Stardew has great farming mechanics and the other resrouce gathering shit is really nice, like honey, and the mining is really good without being Rune Factory. The biggest issue I have with Stardew is the social life and NPCs generally fucking suck, never say more than a few lines, and nobody else ever marries. Little changes and it's stagnant. Kent comes back and a few people get token lines when Joja Mart closes, but that's it.

Marvelous decided to do their own localisation and publishing in house. Allegedly it was a mutual agreement with no ill thought, despite people villainizing Natsume, and they knew full well Natsume will use the Harvest Moon name for their own projects.
Natsume still seems pretty shady in how they marketed their games though. There was an anniversary some time ago, during which they used boxarts of previous Marvelous games to advertise their own, obviously trying to trick people into thinking it's by the same developers. Back to Nature and by extension Friends of Mineral Town use the same plot, locations, and character designs as Harvest Moon 64. Despite that, BtN is not a port of 64, but something akin to a remix. The marriage candidates were shuffled around into new roles, the plot was tweaked a bit, Mineral Town and it's surrounding areas were re-arranged into a new layout.
Because of this re-use of assets, the marriage candidates now had designs that generally didn't fit with their new roles. Ann, for example, was originally a farmer's daughter to being an inn-keeper's daughter.
The Friends of Mineral Town remake is redesigning these characters to better fit the new roles they were given in Back to Nature and Friends of Mineral Town.
For the love of god, man, if you still don't understand after this then you're a lost cause.

You could add actual traits, like crunchy, soft, so on. This effects the cooking (you have to match certain traits to get the best out of a meal) and sales (There can be market trends where they want certain corps with certain qualities, watching TV helps you see trends beforehand)

I don't think BTN's crop system needs to change much. I wouldn't mind some very minor tweaks to livestock though, namely stuff like reworking the mechanics involving leaving animals indoors or outdoors being more distinct/rewarding and maybe more straightforward.
